Key stats worth increasing through nature if possible.
Complementary stats that matter, but not to the point of picking them over key stats for nature increase.
Relatively worthless stat that can safely be decreased through nature.
HPATKSPDDEFRES

Summer Leo ditched his armor and horse to get the second highest res in the game at the price of a miserable def (this cloak ain't covering much). His IVs will depend very much on what you want him to do.

  • His HP is average but touching it means touching at his bulk so it's preferable to keep it neutral.
  • His attack is relatively high, but just not high enough to one-shot his common match-ups even with a boon.
  • His speed is just below average but so it's worth investing into for less enemy doubles, unless you go Quick Riposte or dedicate him to counter one unit type with a breaker where you can take it as bane.
  • His defense is so low that you should never put him in range of a physical enemy. If you run Raven TA the +4 will help a bit but not by much.
  • His resistance is so high it is safe to lower when against his favorable match-ups, but you may want a dedicated mage counter who goes against the weapon triangle and failsafe ploy user so it's also good as a boon.

  • B Slot: Wings of Mercy / Escape Route
  • C Slot: Drive Def / Drive Atk / Drive Spd / Any Spur
  • Sacred Seal: Spur Def 1 / Breath of Life 1

The Nohrian Summer weapons act as a mini Drive skill, meaning that having Leo within two tiles of his allies to his allies will boost their combat prowess. Drive Def 2 can be inherited from a 5* Roderick at the same time as Rally Def/Res for a less combat-ready Leo who will still act as a good support from 2 tiles away, granting 1 atk, 1 spd and 3 def in addition to Rally Def/Res's 3 def and res. Wings of Mercy or Escape Route are taken to teleport next to an ally and buff them or hit the enemy.

A +spd nature is taken to optimize his chances of survival when attacked.

Drive Atk and Rally Atk Spd are an offensive variant for the more fortunate of us. Spur and regular Rally skills can also be taken for a budget version of the build.

  • Special: Iceberg
  • A Slot: HP +5 / Fury
  • B Slot: Seal Atk Spd / Seal Atk / Seal Spd
  • C Slot: Def Ploy / Res Ploy / Atk Ploy

Leo can Ploy pretty much the entire cast. Weaken the ennemy in 3 stats and let one of your allies finish them. You can also bait a non-blue mage, apply the Seal and finish them off yourself during your phase since they will do little damage to you. Ardent Sacrifice and HP+5 are taken to support further your teammates.

A budget version of this build would be Atk Ploy and Seal Spd.

Show Explanation/Analysis
  • Preferred Nature: +Res / -Def
  • Weapon: Rauðrowl+ / Tomato Tome+
  • Assist: Reciprocal Aid / Ardent Sacrifice / Flexible
  • Special: Iceberg / Glacies
  • A Slot: Fury / Res +3
  • B Slot: Escape Route
  • C Slot: Atk Ploy
  • Sacred Seal: Resistance +1 / Quickened Pulse / HP +3

Leo's best bet when changing tomes is owl. With two adjacent allies, his basic 37/45/26/19/42 (Fury and Resistance Sacred Seal included) becomes 37/49/30/23/46. Add Atk Ploy for an extra 5 effective bulk and he can then tank even blue mages. That's not even factoring Spurs and other buffs in.

Reciprocal Aid / Ardent Sacrifice is taken to support and get Escape route to kick in. With Iceberg, you get 23 additional damage. Since your speed went up, you can also go Iceberg + Quickened Pulse for a higher number of sure kills. Should you instead go for Glacies + Quickened Pulse, you will hit with 36 additional damage. You can defy the weapon triangle here. You can even survive a Honed, Moonbow QP DB3 Reinhardt with a HP +3 sacred seal (Reinhardt would do exactly enough damage to kill S!Leo under the aforementioned conditions without it).

However, inheriting Owl to Leo cannot be done with just one Katarina for some reason as he needs to learn Fire and Elfire first. Your best move would be to sacrifice a 4 star Lilina first, then the Katarina. This is why the Tomato Tome is listed as an alternative.

Tomatoes... are so... /shiny/ (raven build)
Rauðrraven+ A Triangle Adept 3
Budget: Resistance +3
Reposition B Quick Riposte 3
Budget: Quick Riposte 2
Iceberg C Atk Ploy 3
SP1,775SResistance +1

Show Explanation/Analysis
  • Preferred Nature: +Def, +Res / -Spd
  • Weapon: Rauðrraven+
  • Assist: Reposition / Flexible
  • Special: Iceberg / Glacies
  • A Slot: Triangle Adept / Distant Def / HP +5 / Res +3
  • B Slot: Quick Riposte 2 or 3 / Swordbreaker / G Tomebreaker / R Tomebreaker / Bowbreaker
  • C Slot: Atk Ploy

This set aims to bait mages and colorless into a Quick Riposte-Iceberg combo that will hit hard. If you have a spare Quickened Pulse or feel you can finish the kill safely with someone else, Glacies can be taken for even more damage. Otherwise you can choose to stack even more resistance with the Res +1 Sacred Seal.

Since Leo shouldn't take much damage from magic, Quick Riposte can be active much longer than usual so Fury isn't the first recommended skill here. Triangle Adept and Distant Def are the best, but HP +5 and Res+3 work fine as budget alternative.

Should you want a Leo that's more useful than a repositioning bot on player phase, you can opt for a breaker in your B Slot.

Rauðrblade+ A Death Blow 3
Budget: Attack +3
Reposition B Swordbreaker 3

Iceberg C Threaten Res 3
SP1,775S-

Show Explanation/Analysis
  • Preferred Nature: +Atk / -Def
  • Weapon: Rauðrblade+
  • Assist: Reposition / Flexible
  • Special: Iceberg
  • A Slot: Death Blow
  • B Slot: Swordbreaker / G Tomebreaker / R Tomebreaker
  • C Slot: Threaten Res / Atk Ploy

Blade doesn't work all too well on Summer Leo because of his okay attack and meh speed. As such, he will have to rely on breaker skills and maximizing his attack. This means going all-out with Death Blow and Threaten Res. Iceberg will charge up in one battle if the enemy retaliates and doubles you, granting you a 17 flat damage on your next battle.

Introduction

Summer Leo is a limited red mage with sky-high res, a good attack and not much else to show. He can soak up magic until he's ready to unleash his special akin to Niles and Felicia but unlike them, he's the one prone to getting doubled. In a meta abundant in green mages, Summer Leo can carve a niche for himself but is overall underwhelming. He would rather stay home eating tomatoes... I mean, play a supportive role and weaken enemies than actually finish them off (unless you go for Quick Riposte Icebrg/Glacies shenanigans). He especially cannot take a physical double. Red raven tome users are aplenty and he's not the best for the job because of the lack of defense. He has neither huge attack nor enough speed to pull off a blade build. He is actually a beast with an owl tome but for some reason it is impossible for dark mages to inherit it directly.

Strengths
  • Second highest res in the game
    • Soaks up magical attacks
    • Atk Ploy is easy to trigger and prolongs the team's lifespan
    • Green mage counter in a meta with many green mages due to Reinhardt's prevalence
    • Has the potential to go against the weapon triangle
      • Best lines in the game
        • TOMATOES
      Weaknesses
      • Dies to pretty much anything physical because of his low speed and def
      • Has to rely on skills to double and do significant damage
      • Low availability means low merging potential
      Team Options

Summer Leo will preferrably play as support or as Owl user. He'll be a mage tank in both cases.

As a support, he is solely there to tank mages and to weaken enemies so the rest of your team can swoop in, making him a nice addition to your team although you usually want to go for dps. This support can complement physical tanks such as Lukas or armored units who will end up taking little to no damage, or help frailer duelists like Anna, Peri or Shanna take hits more safely.

As Owl user, Leo will want to bait mages with at least 2 adjacent allies to bolster his overall stats and go for a safe kill. This means he pairs well with low-res blues like Ephraim and Sharena.

Whatever the build, Summer Leo's best friends will be offensive green units such as Nino, Cherche, Anna etc who can jump on blue units to cover for him.

      Counters
      • Boosted blue mages with decent attack and speed (more or less all of them)
      • Fast physical units
      • Distant Counter physical units (Ryoma, Ike, Xander, Camus...)
      • Kagero and other Poison Dagger units (though damage is mitigated if running Raven Triangle Adept)
