Assets

  • +SPD: Summer Gunnthrá benefits massively from receiving a Speed Asset, gaining a significant improvement to her damage potential though quite an increased likelihood of both performing and denying follow-up attacks. This Asset sees especially effective use with most standard offensive sets.
  • +ATK: An Attack Asset remains an excellent choice of IVs as well to enhance her raw damage output, being quite impactful when facing off against slower opponents who possess high bulk; this also pairs quite nicely with one-shot builds revolving around the use of effective damage weapons such as Cloud Maiougi.

Neutral

  • HP / DEF: Although Summer Gunnthrá’s physical bulk is rather poor, it is sufficient enough such that she can typically take a hit from an opposing physical damage dealer with relative safety; combined with the fact that taking a -HP or -DEF IV results in a four-point deduction as opposed to the typical three, it is recommended to just leave both of these stats intact.

Flaws

  • -RES: Despite being the higher of her two defensive stats, reducing her Resistance with a Flaw is ideal; this leaves her with enough magical bulk to withstand a single hit from an opposing mage while simultaneously allowing her to preserve her otherwise low physical bulk, granting her the greatest amount of overall survivability.

Show Explanation/Analysis

Preferred IV: +SPD or +ATK -RES

A standard offensive set that revolves around capitalizing on Summer Gunnthrá’s combination of good Attack and high Speed as well as her inherent strengths as a cavalry unit to transform the princess into a potent threat in the Player Phase. Since she will be highly reliant upon her ability to consistently perform follow-up attacks for her damage output, a Speed Asset is ideal, however, an Attack Asset may also be considered to augment her raw damage output and let her use the Heavy Blade seal to greater effect.

Weapon: Lethal Carrot (+Spd) / Barb Shuriken+ (+Spd) / Tropical Treats+ (+Spd)

  • Lethal Carrot is a fantastic choice of weapon that pairs perfectly with this build’s focus on maximizing her damage output, granting her a flat +10 damage boost upon Special activations. When utilized in tandem with the Heavy Blade seal, Summer Gunnthrá will be able to deal considerable amounts of burst damage against unsuspecting foes.

  • Barb Shuriken also makes for a worthwhile consideration as its consistent -1 Special cooldown allows her to be less reliant on the Heavy Blade seal to frequently activate her Special, in addition to granting her the flexibility of equipping Specials with longer cooldowns if so desired. Furthermore, under the proper circumstances, Barb Shuriken can potentially allow Summer Gunnthrá to activate her Special twice in a single round of combat, heightening her overall damage output immensely.

  • On a budget, Summer Gunnthrá’s native Tropical Treats can be kept, granting her an appreciable boost to her Attack and magical bulk when affected by any sort of field buff. Nonetheless, regardless of her chosen weapon, it is highly recommended to take a Speed refine as to build upon her already formidable offensive capabilities.

Assist: Rally Def/Res+ / Flexible

Special: Moonbow / Glimmer / Luna

  • Moonbow and Glimmer are Summer Gunnthrá’s best options for her Special, in large part due to the fact that their relatively low cooldown allows her to make use of them rather frequently. They both have exceptional synergy with the Heavy Blade seal + Desperation combination when using Lethal Carrot or Tropical Treats, and can also be paired with Barb Shuriken and the Quickened Pulse seal to potentially have her Special activate twice in her first round of combat.

  • If equipped with Barb Shuriken, Summer Gunnthrá can make use excellent use of Luna with the aforementioned Heavy Blade seal + Desperation combination; this allows her to consistently powerful Special activations against her opponent in every round of combat even when under Desperation's HP threshold, provided that she performs a follow-up attack and that Heavy Blade activates.

    • It should be noted that Luna is a decent candidate when using other weapons as well should the Heavy Blade seal be unavailable as Luna, Moonbow, and Glimmer will then all activate at the same rate, making Luna the superior option in such instances.

Passive A: Swift Sparrow / Atk/Spd Solo / Fury / Brazen Atk/Spd / Life and Death

  • Swift Sparrow 3 makes for a stellar choice of A slot skill to maximize Summer Gunnthrá’s offensive presence in the Player Phase, offering her a massive +6/+7 Atk/Spd in-combat boost upon initiation with no other prerequisite conditions for combat. Given its scarce availability, though, its lesser version, Swift Sparrow 2, may also be used to achieve comparable results.

  • Atk/Spd Solo remains a powerful option to similarly enhance her strong base offensive stats, with its positioning requirement being inconsequential in most scenarios given that she will typically be away from her allies when fighting against foes regardless. In comparison to Swift Sparrow 3, Atk/Spd Solo is marginally weaker, however, it does possess the flexibility of granting her some functionality in the Enemy Phase, though she’s not necessarily suited to excel there in the first place.

  • Fury is another solid A slot skill of note that serves to boost Summer Gunnthrá’s damage output and overall survivability simultaneously, granting her an appreciable boost to all of her stats. Although it does come at the cost of inflicting a considerable amount of recoil damage after combat, this itself can be utilized to one’s advantage and enable her to reach Desperation’s HP threshold more safely.

  • Should one wish to capitalize on this build’s intended playstyle as much as possible without investing too heavily, Brazen Atk/Spd as well as Life and Death can be considered as viable options. That said, do keep in mind that they both can potentially require an extensive amount of outside support to maintain levels of consistency on par with any of the aforementioned skills.

Passive B: Desperation

  • Desperation is an irreplaceable component of this build as it allows Summer Gunnthrá to freely initiate combat against opposing foes without having to worry about being killed in retaliation; once in range of its HP threshold, this ensures her ability to engage in extended rounds of combat with the proper set-up.

Passive C: Odd Atk Wave / Even Spd Wave / Hone Cavalry / Flexible

  • Wave skills are highly effective options that let Summer Gunnthrá be much more self-sufficient in the way that she functions, with the buffs that they provide potentially being especially beneficial in mixed team compositions where +6 field buffs may not be as easily accessible.

  • In a cavalry setting, class-exclusive buffs such as Hone Cavalry make for an obvious choice of C slot skill to encourage a more cohesive team composition.

Sacred Seal: Heavy Blade / Quickened Pulse / Darting Blow / Brazen Atk/Spd

  • The Heavy Blade and Quickened Pulse seals are exceptional options to elevate her damage output via quicker Special activations.

  • Alternatively, the Darting Blow and Brazen Atk/Spd seals can be taken to further build upon her already solid offensive stats and heighten her proficiency at performing as a competent offensive nuke in the Player Phase.

  • Otherwise, the Atk/Spd 2, Speed +3, and Attack +3 seals (or any of their variants) can be used here to grant her a solid bump to her offensive potential.

Show Explanation/Analysis

Preferred IV: +ATK / -RES

While offensive in nature, this build takes a vastly different approach to Summer Gunnthrá’s intended playstyle in comparison to the first, instead focusing on her unique typing as a colorless dagger cavalier to transform her into a strong check to specific unit types. A +ATK IV is her best option here as she will be dependent primarily on landing OHKOs to function.

Weapon: Cloud Maioigi (+Atk) / Sky Maiougi (+Atk) / Splashy Bucket (+Atk) / Poison Dagger+ / Kitty Paddle+

  • Thanks to her good base Attack stat and access to class-exclusive buffs, Summer Gunnthrá can make excellent use of the vast array of effective-damage daggers at her disposal to perform as a check to any type of unit that her team struggles against. As for what weapon to actually equip, however, this will depend largely on what the rest of her specific team composition consists of as well as skill availability, making her weapon choice quite flexible.

  • Regardless of her chosen weapon, an Attack refine is ideal to maximize her OHKO potential as much as possible.

Assist: Rally Def/Res+ / Flexible

Special: Glimmer / Moonbow

  • Glimmer is a fantastic choice for a Special and scales well with the effective damage boost from her chosen weapon, though it does carry the demerit of performing considerably worse against opponent whom Summer Gunnthrá cannot deal effective damage against.

  • For greater consistency across all of her match-ups (and not just those in which she holds an advantage), Moonbow may be taken instead. That being said, however, Summer Gunnthrá should be ideally initiating combat solely against foes she can OHKO as effective-damage weapons, while highly useful, are severely lacking in overall applicability and can subsequently detract from her ability to effectively handle a wide breadth of foes.

Passive A: Death Blow

  • Death Blow is Summer Gunnthrá’s best choice of A slot skill for this build, granting her a substantial boost to her raw damage output upon initiation. Combined with accompanying buffs to her Attack stat, this offers her the highest chance of killing her selected opponent in one fell swoop.

Passive B: Chill Def / Def Feint

  • Chill Def is a phenomenal choice that serves to develop this build’s focus on her OHKO capabilities further, allowing her to push through bulky foes who she may have otherwise been unable to handle as effectively. Do keep in mind, though, that Chill Def is not guaranteed to debilitate a foe who she deals effective damage against and can be inconsistent at times.

  • Alternatively, Def Feint, albeit exponentially more rare than Chill Def, makes for a rather potent option as well. In comparison to Chill Def, Def Feint possesses much more consistency in that one can actually control who becomes afflicted by the debuff — but conversely, it comes at the cost of wasting either her or an ally’s turn as well as necessitating that one of them run a Rally skill as their chosen Assist.

Passive C: Odd Atk Wave / Hone Cavalry / Flexible

  • Wave skills are once again good options to improve Summer Gunnthrá’s self-sufficiency as a unit and make her less reliant on team support. They are not strictly necessary for her to function properly, however, and can be replaced by any C slot skill of one’s choosing. In the instance that one is utilizing her alongside other cavalry allies, class-exclusive buffs remain strong candidates too.

Sacred Seal: Attack +3

  • The Attack +3 seal is a simple, but incredibly beneficial addition to this set that helps her secure OHKOs more reliably through increased raw damage output.

Introduction

The eldest princess of Nifl, Gunnthrá, makes a reappearance as a seasonal unit, this time wearing a tasteful summer attire perfect for passing the time at the beach. She comes in the form of a colorless dagger cavalier most directly comparable to her predecessor, Summer Linde, boasting strong offensive stats and relatively poor base defenses. Her unique weapon typing grants her a rather coveted niche, particularly in cavalry-exclusive team compositions, as her access to a plethora of effective-damage weaponry as a dagger unit combined with the statline and mobility to back it up enables her to be highly versatile in the way that she functions. When taken into consideration with her other inherent strengths, most notably her access to class-exclusive buffs, effective five-tile range, and a lack of color-disadvantaged match-ups, Summer Gunnthrá can undeniably be considered an incredibly powerful force to her own right.

Her weaknesses are similar to that of most offensive cavaliers. For instance, her overall bulk, while decent enough such that she can generally take at least one hit from an opposing foe, is still not very good and renders her markedly weak to any form of sustained offensive pressure; this also makes her severely reliant on the effects of skills like Desperation or playstyles contingent upon her ability to OHKO foes in order to engage in extended rounds of combat. Furthermore, as a cavalry unit, she is unable to benefit from access to powerful skills, such as Null Follow-Up and Sturdy Impact, travel directly on certain terrain, and carries a distinct disadvantage to any opponent wielding cavalry-effective weaponry.

Nonetheless, these weak weaknesses, while definitely restrictive, do not necessarily outweigh the impact of Summer Gunnthrá’s strengths. With smart play and careful management, Summer Gunnthrá can establish herself as a formidable and versatile offensive threat capable of finding her place both in and out of cavalry-exclusive compositions.

Strengths

Strong Offenses

Summer Gunnthra’s fantastic offensive statline of 33/37 provides her with the means to perform as a highly effective offensive threat. When capitalized on with the proper build and support, the young princess can easily establish herself as a consistent source of damage output.

Unique Typing

Summer Gunnthrá’s unique typing as a colorless dagger cavalier is a great boon in her favor, as her access to a wide breadth of various effective damage weapons allows her to built to cater towards one’s specific needs. This is especially beneficial when utilizing her in a cavalry setting where niche roles, such as dedicated anti-dragons, are not easily fulfilled.

Cavalry

Her status as a cavalry unit helps further cement her inherently considerable offensive capabilities. In addition to granting her an effective five-tile range, this enables Summer Gunnthrá to benefit from access to class-exclusive buffs which, when properly implemented, can let her maximize her damage output with relative ease.

Just Enough Bulk

While her overall bulk may not be extraordinary, it is sufficient enough such that she can generally tank a single hit from an opposing foe safely with the proper use of buffs.

Weaknesses

Low Defensive Stats

Summer Gunnthra’s low defensive stats make her virtually incapable of taking on any form of sustained offensive pressure and render her functionality to exist solely in the Player Phase.

Cavalry

Although she is not as negatively impacted by terrain like trenches thanks to her being ranged, Summer Gunnthrá’s status as a cavalry unit remains a debilitating weakness, most notably due to it restricting her from gaining access to certain skills like Null Follow-Up and consequently limiting her overall potential dramatically. It also makes her quite susceptible to opponents wielding cavalry-effective weaponry.
