Show Explanation/Analysis

Weapon: Silver Goblet (+Res) Silver Goblet (+Spd)

  • Rinea’s native Silver Goblet is a fantastic choice of weapon for the purposes of this build, boasting strong supportive utility through its effect of built-in Distant Guard; pairing this weapon with further defensive boosts can make her allies quite resilient against ranged opponents. A +RES refine can make for a good option if aiming to maximize her ability to use Sabotage or Ploy skills, otherwise +SPD is preferred to augment her survivability.

Assist: Dance

Special: Moonbow / Iceberg / Luna

  • Since Rinea should rarely be seeing combat here, her choice of Special is mostly inconsequential. Nonetheless, Moonbow can make for a great option due to its low cooldown allowing her to activate it quickly if needed. Iceberg and Luna may also be considered should higher damage be preferred, but their longer cooldowns means that Rinea will need to engage in multiple rounds of combat to actually make use of them.

Passive A: Fort. Def/Res / Fury

  • While a rather high investment, Fort. Def/Res remains an excellent choice of A slot skill to improve her overall bulk and her ability to reliably utilize Sabotage or Ploy skills dramatically, especially when paired with a +RES refine on her weapon. Although it does come at the cost of detracting from her Attack slightly, Rinea’s combat ability is not a primary concern here so the damage loss is largely negligible.

    • It should be noted that this skill carries the additional benefit of elevating Rinea’s visible stats, as this potentially allows her to become the target of opposing Chill skills (most likely of which being Chill Res) on occasion. This can make for a particularly beneficial quality to have as it prevents her allies from becoming negatively impacted by such skills, furthering her supportive capabilities.

  • Fury (3 or 4) is another standout candidate that grants Rinea an appreciable boost to all of her stats at once. This provides her with improved offensive capabilities (which can prove quite valuable in the instance that she needs to engage in combat) while simultaneously giving her a higher likelihood of being able to activate Ploys and Sabotage skills against the opposing team, similarly to Fort. Def/Res.

Passive B: Sabotage Atk / Chill Atk / Chill Spd / Wings of Mercy / Fireflood Dance

  • When equipped with the proper skills, Rinea can make great use of Sabotage Atk to provide debuff and refreshing support concurrently for even greater supportive utility. Chill skills may also be taken to fulfill a similar purpose, however, they do have some notable differences in the way that they function: Sabotage skills possess a greater likelihood of debilitating multiple foes at once, whereas Chill skills will typically only target one opponent but they are guaranteed to do so. Accordingly, the choice over which to use will depend on personal preference.

  • Wings of Mercy is a readily available option that has remained a staple on refreshers for the majority of the game’s lifespan, though for exceedingly good reason. Through its ability to teleport next to weakened allies, Rinea can benefit from a massive boost to her maneuverability in the Player Phase and provide invaluable assistance to teammates who need it the most.

  • On a budget, Rinea’s native Fireflood Dance can make for a decent choice to grant allies whom she uses Dance on a solid boost to their damage output and magical resilience, but is somewhat redundant if other sources of field buffs are available.

Passive C: Distant Guard / Ploy Skill / Drive Skill / Tactic Skill / Flexible

  • Distant Guard pairs perfectly with Silver Goblet to increase her allies’ durability against ranged opponents significantly, granting them a +8 in-combat boost to both of their defensive stats upon being attacked by such foes.

  • Ploys are also a good option when paired with skills like Fury that boost Rinea’s visible Resistance stat to increase their likelihood of activating. The choice of which to use will depend on what her specific team composition consists of, but Atk Ploy and Spd Ploy are generally safe options given their wide range of applications.

  • Drives and Tactics are also noteworthy C slot skills that can improve her team’s overall performance through their considerable stat boosts.

Sacred Seal: Drive Atk / Chill Atk / Chill Spd / Ploy Skill / Tactic Skill

  • Rinea can use a number of different seals here to add on to her supportive capabilities, with Drive, Chill, Ploy, and Tactic skills all making for worthwhile considerations depending on what her allies require of her.

Show Explanation/Analysis

Weapon: Blárserpent+ (+Res) / Blárserpent+ (+Spd)

  • Blárserpent is a potent defensive weapon that allows Rinea to make the greatest use of her reasonable amount of Speed and magical bulk to function as a capable anti-ranged tank, granting her a substantial +6 in-combat boost against such opponents. A +RES refine can help markedly in reducing the amount of damage she takes from incoming mages, whereas a +SPD refine can enhance her overall survivability by safeguarding her from enemy follow-up attacks; ultimately, though, both are fantastic choices.

Assist: Dance

Special: Moonbow / Iceberg

  • Moonbow is a great choice of Special as its low cooldown enables Rinea to benefit from its sizeable damage boost very frequently, especially when utilized with the Quick Riposte seal. Glimmer boasts a similar activation rate to that of Moonbow, however, Rinea’s damage output is not sufficient enough to justify using it here.

  • Given this build’s emphasis on maximizing the impact of Rinea’s Resistance stat, Iceberg makes for a natural fit and is preferred should one favor stronger Special activations over quicker ones. It can potentially be paired with the Flashing Blade seal to ensure its activation on Rinea’s second hit in the Enemy Phase, but this may not be entirely consistent without the adequate support and investment to her Speed stat.

Passive A: Distant Def / Warding Stance 4 / Atk/Res Bond / Atk/Spd Bond

  • On top of granting her a phenomenal +8 boost to both of her defensive stats upon being attacked by a ranged unit, Distant Def 4 also possesses the ability to negate enemy bonuses, a rather powerful secondary effect given the commonality of field buffs in enemy team compositions; this is especially useful when attempting to bait Blade tome mages. If unavailable, Distant Def 3 can be used instead, but it should be noted that  the loss of built-in Dull Ranged will result in Rinea losing much of her previous durability.

  • Another high investment option, Warding Stance 4 stands tall as one of the best skills geared towards tanking in the game and fortunately enough, Rinea can utilize it quite well. Although it does render her much weaker to sources of physical damage in comparison to Distant Def, this skill’s built-in Guard effect does make it quite useful in certain situations, such as when using a +RES refine instead of +SPD as Rinea will subsequently be more likely to be doubled.

  • Bond skills work excellently with this build’s defensively oriented playstyle and can make for decent substitutes should the aforementioned skills be unavailable. Of those available to her, Atk/Res Bond 4 is especially noteworthy for its ability to negate any Attack and Resistance debuffs affecting Rinea, but its lesser version, Atk/Res Bond, and Atk/Spd Bond are good options as well.

Passive B: Quick Riposte / Chill Spd / Guard

  • Quick Riposte is necessary to ensure Rinea’s follow-up attack in the Enemy Phase, as her Speed is really only high enough to help prevent follow-up attacks — not perform them. Although she has the option of running it as her chosen seal, using it in her B slot remains a good course of action to grant her the flexibility of taking a stat boosting seal like Distant Def for further specialization.

  • If using Quick Riposte in her seal slot, however, Chill Spd should be taken instead to provide team support and lessen her likelihood of being doubled by opposing speedsters. If Warding Stance 4 is not being used in her A slot, Guard may be considered to benefit from a similar effect of Special deceleration; this can be immensely useful in certain scenarios, such as when fighting against foes who naturally outspeed her and would otherwise damage her heavily with their Special.

Passive C: Atk Smoke / Spd Smoke / Res Smoke / Pulse Smoke / Flexible

  • Through their various debuffs, Smoke skills allow Rinea to shine in the Enemy Phase and help weaken multiple foes for her to easily take them down in subsequent rounds of combat following the first. Aside from the standard choices, Pulse Smoke can also be a worthwhile investment to easily shut down opponents who rely on instant Special activations.

Sacred Seal: Distant Def / Warding Stance / Chill Spd / Quick Riposte

  • The Distant Def and Warding Stance seals work well here to further improve Rinea’s anti-ranged capabilities, though the Chill Spd seal is also a formidable option to help provide team support and debilitate opposing speedsters who may have otherwise been a significant problem.

Alternate: Atk/Spd Solo 3
Dance B Desperation 3
Glimmer
Alternate: Moonbow
C Odd Atk Wave 3
Alternate: Even Spd Wave 3
SP1760SHeavy Blade 3

Show Explanation/Analysis

Weapon: Blárblade+

  • Rinea’s serviceable offensive statline of 30/33 allows her to make reasonably good use of a Blárblade tome to function as a capable frontline combatant, while remaining a powerful support unit thanks to her inherent access to Dance. However, while the Blárblade tome certainly has great potential, it should be noted that it also makes Rinea exceedingly reliant on team support for her to actually have a meaningful impact.

Assist: Dance

Special: Glimmer / Moonbow

  • Glimmer makes for a fantastic choice of Special here, as it scales quite nicely with the additional damage Rinea can obtain through Blárblade’s powerful effect and boasts a relatively low cooldown. Although generally not as strong as Glimmer, Moonbow may be considered to pierce through magically resilient foes or those equipped with skills that negate enemy bonuses, such as Distant Def 4.

Passive A: Swift Sparrow / Atk/Spd Solo / Atk/Spd Push 4 / Fury

  • Most offensive A slot skills will work here perfectly fine. Swift Sparrow 3 is an especially strong candidate thanks to its impressive +6/+7 Atk/Spd boost upon initiating combat, though its lesser version, Swift Sparrow 2, can work as well should it be unavailable.

  • Alternatively, Atk/Spd Solo and Atk/Spd Push 4 can both be considered to offer Rinea a comparable improvement to her damage output on top of the flexibility of retaining her offensive presence in the Enemy Phase if necessary, as her ability to benefit from their various boosts is not contingent upon her initiating combat. However, keep in mind that they do require a bit more micromanagement than Swift Sparrow to use properly due to their respective activation requirements.

  • Fury is a fairly standard choice for builds such as this one and can work well in a pinch, enhancing Rinea’s offensive capabilities nicely while decreasing her likelihood of being outright OHKO’d concurrently; its after-combat chip damage also synergizes excellently with Desperation and allows her to drop into its HP threshold safely.

Passive B: Desperation / Wings of Mercy

  • Desperation grants Rinea the ability to perform her follow-up attack before her opponent can even counterattack upon reaching its HP threshold, making it a strong choice for her B slot to ensure her ability to engage in extended rounds of combat. Wings of Mercy can also be considered to supplement her supportive capabilities instead.

Passive C: Odd Atk Wave / Even Spd Wave / Rouse Atk/Def / Flexible

  • Odd Atk Wave, Even Spd Wave, and other offensive stat-boosting Wave skills help Rinea be much more self-sufficient and supply her allies with powerful field buffs on odd and even-numbered turns respectively. Rouse Atk/Def can also be taken to bolster Rinea’s self-sufficiency but to a much greater extent, though it does lack a Wave skill’s ability to provide team support.

Sacred Seal: Heavy Blade / Darting Blow / Brazen Atk/Spd

  • Thanks to Blárblade’s effect, Rinea can utilize the Heavy Blade seal to great effect and heighten her damage output through faster (and more consistent) Special activations. If unavailable, the Darting Blow and Brazen Atk/Spd seals or any of the standard stat-boosting seals should be equipped to build upon her offensive potential directly.

Introduction

Stepping onto the ballroom floor hand-in-hand with her beloved, the elegant and soft spoken noble Rinea finally makes her debut appearance in the game as an infantry blue mage with the ability to use Dance. Just by merit of having access to Dance alone, Rinea can prove to be an incredibly powerful asset at one’s disposal; the ability to grant an ally another action is invaluable and can easily turn an unfavorable situation into a cinch for her teammates with proper use. Rinea’s status as both a refresher and mage further adds on to her overall utility as it enables her to fulfill a variety of different roles depending on what is needed of her, ash she can wield a number of tomes quite effectively.

Statwise, Rinea is relatively balanced across all fronts and can best be described as a jack-of-all-trades, sporting serviceable offensive stats (for a refresher), relatively decent magical bulk, and just enough physical bulk to avoid being OHKO’d outright; her good amount of defensive speed and overall bulk are particularly valuable traits that grant her a reasonable amount of overall survivability. Although she does not necessarily excel in any given area, Rinea’s statline does make her rather versatile as she’s flexible enough to be built in different ways to fulfill different roles. This statline, however, is both a strength and a weakness. With no truly distinguishing qualities to speak of on top of her lack of any exclusive skills, Rinea finds herself unable to carve a unique niche for herself in comparison to other refreshers; compared to units like Legendary Azura, Hoshidan Festival Micaiah, and Soirée Reinhardt, it’s difficult to not see her as sorely outclassed in most areas. Her status as a free unit is also somewhat detrimental to her overall performance by preventing her from obtaining access to IVs, limiting her overall potential as a unit.

However, with all that said, Rinea’s supportive capabilities should not be underestimated. Dance remains an incredibly powerful tool at her disposal and when combined with her good amount of versatility (as a result of her balanced statline and access to a wide array of weaponry), Rinea: Reminiscent Belle can definitely prove to be a wonderful asset to any number of teams through her valuable refreshing support — and as a cherry on top, at least her art is absolutely stunning.

Strengths

Dance

Rinea’s access to Dance is inarguably her greatest strength. This skill alone provides her with incredible supportive capabilities, allowing her teammates to benefit from a massive boost to their maneuverability in the Player Phase through the unique ability to take another turn.

Decent Offenses

While not particularly impressive, Rinea’s base offensive statline of 30/33 is respectable for a refresher and allows her to perform decently well as a combat unit if so desired, especially when capitalized on with the proper build and support.

Good Survivability

One of Rinea’s more distinguishing qualities is her good amount of overall survivability — with 60/66 physical and magical bulk respectively as well as solid defensive Speed, Rinea can definitely take a few hits here and there if necessary, which is always a nice backup option to have.

Weaknesses

Lack of IVs

Although this doesn’t really affect her all that much since she is primarily a support unit, Rinea’s inability to obtain IVs does limit the extent of her combat ability quite a bit, hindering her greatly in this regard.

Heavy Competition

Rinea undoubtedly has an incredible amount of supportive utility thanks to her access to Dance but with no exclusive skills at her disposal and a rather flat overall statline, she faces extremely stiff competition in earning a spot on a team should one already have access to other refreshers like Legendary Azura and Hoshidan Festival Micaiah who far outstrip what she brings to the table.
