Setsuna likes having extra Attack and Speed, depending on which set she is running. Attack works well on both sets, but Speed is much better on the Desperation set. Higher Speed helps Setsuna score more quad-attacks and deal more damage. She does not care about her defenses at all.
Boons
-
+ATK: The best general choice, and works well on both of her sets. The extra three Attack is multiplied by Brave Bow’s multi-attack property.
-
+SPD: Speed is best on the Desperation set, helping her achieve guaranteed quad-attacks.
Neutral
-
HP: Only preferred to Defense and Resistance due to it reducing her overall survivability. Can be reduced fairly safely.
Banes
-
-DEF: Setsuna is extremely squishy and cannot survive hits from units with Distant Counter anyway.
- -RES: Most mages die to Setsuna’s Brave Bow attacks. She does not need Resistance to tank their counterattacks.

This set optimizes Setsuna for Arena matches and is designed to help her combat commonly seen threats. Setsuna can initiate into and KO many weaker units with impunity as her strong ranged attacks will KO them before they can retaliate. Overall, she should be used as a general attacker.
Many skill choices here seek to maximize Setsuna’s Attack. The great thing about fast Brave weapon builds is that they usually have enough damage to OHKO units they cannot quad. Life and Death is fantastic on Setsuna, boosting her offenses significantly. Moonbow scales well off her low Attack and combined with Quickened Pulse, activates on her first attack.
The most important skill choice is her B slot. Swordbreaker gives Setsuna a ton of advantageous matchups against sword-users. It lets her KO Ayra, Siegbert, Lucina, Olivia, and Soleil in one round. Windsweep is a great alternative that disables her quad-attacks, but protects her from Distant Counter units who would otherwise KO her and is a great option when Setsuna is paired with a Dancer. Cancel Affinity is there to let Setsuna beat Triangle Adept + Raven tome users.
Since she is best used alongside tanks, her Assist and C slot skill options reflect this. Draw Back and Rally skills make Setsuna useful when she isn’t attacking. Spur Skills cannot be removed by Panic Ploy and allow her to give a +3 buff to two of an ally’s stats.

Sacred Seal: Speed +3 / Attack +3
A long time ago, Setsuna was considered to be one the best archers in the game due to this set. It aims to raise Setsuna’s Speed to the max, allowing her to attack four times in rapid succession to decimate her foes. It’s not so strong in the Arena, but works excellently in other modes, particularly those which feature multiple maps that must be cleared.
Life and Death along with Desperation are the crucial elements of this set, boosting Setsuna’s offensive stats and giving her the best chance of attacking four times. Desperation is mandatory , as it allows her to finish all of her attacks before the enemy gets a chance to counterattack. Setsuna’s Seal slot also reflects her offenses, opting for either Speed +3 or Attack +3 to increase her offensive stats further. Luna is picked as her Special as it can be activated on every quad-attack and scales well off Setsuna’s low base Attack.
Ardent Sacrifice is her Assist skill of choice, helping her to get to the Desperation threshold. She’s not good at taking hits without dying, so Ardent Sacrifice is a nice safe way to accomplish this. Her C slot skill choices remain the same: She can help buff tanky allies with Spur skills, but if you have the resources, Spd Smoke gives Setsuna even more chances to quad and is especially potent in combination with a Dancer.
Introduction
Appearing in Fire Emblem Fates, Setsuna is an infantry archer. Being available at 3-4 stars makes Setsuna easy to merge and she’s one of the best budget offensive units in the game. Her high Speed has made her infamous for the “Quad Attack” build, which sees her hit four times with a Brave Bow.
However, the release of many more units with Distant Counter and skills such as Distant Def greatly reduce Setsuna’s damage output. Slow, but strong Brave Bow users are now more common due to their damage being spread over less attacks. Setsuna does not have the power to effectively run a Firesweep set, limiting her offensive options.
For those keen on building the Absent Archer, keep in mind that she will perform her offensive role admirably in single player modes. The “Quad-Attack” build is great for modes such as the Tempest Trials or Squad Assault which involve clearing multiple maps.
Strengths
Workable Attack and high Speed.
Where Setsuna shines is in her stellar Speed, at base 37. This makes her one of the fastest archers in the game, and a candidate for her “Quad-Attack” build. Her base Attack at 28 is low, but workable considering her ability to quad attack and boosters such as stat boons, Seals, and A slot skills.
Easy to build and merge for single player modes.
Everything needed to build Setsuna can be acquired from units available at 4 stars or lower. Additionally, she is a 3-4 star unit which makes her very easy to hunt for a good boon/bane. Setsuna isn’t the best Arena pick, but she’s great in many of the single player modes within the game and a good investment for most players.
Weaknesses
Poor defensive stats.
Setsuna’s defensive stats weigh in at 37 HP, 22 Defense, and 23 Resistance. She is not bulky enough to tank any reasonable amount of damage, instead preferring to trade off her defenses for improving her offenses with skills such as Life and Death.
Heavily outclassed by other archers.
She struggles in the Arena, where many powerful archers reign supreme. Brave Lyn, Halloween Jakob, Innes, and Bridal Cordelia are all very powerful units which boast stronger stat lines and matchups. Setsuna finds it hard to stand out amongst these powerful offensive units.
Team Options
Counters
Tanks with strong physical defense are walls to Setsuna, whose damage scales poorly against them. If Setsuna does not run Cancel Affinity, Raven Tome + Triangle Adept users can counter her, and she does not have the stats to tank hits of any kind, especially if running Life and Death.
-
Distant Counter Tanks: Tanks of all colors run Distant Counter and commonly run Seals such as Distant Defense to further protect against ranged damage. Hector, Zelgius, Effie, Nowi, Corrin-F and (LA) Hector all easily tank and revenge KO Setsuna. Windsweep can help vs. some of these units, but the dragons will still counter her no matter what, as Windsweep does not affect them.
- Raven Tome users: Commonly seen on units such as Robin-M, Robin-F, Cecilia, and Inigo. Setsuna must run Cancel Affinity in order to get past these units, but this means she cannot run Swordbreaker and costs her matchups against other units.

Budget kit for low HP setups. Setsuna tanks a ranged attack, ideally magic, and hits back (usually) twice to charge Glacies, which she can retaliate at greater power thanks to Brazen Atk/Res. From there she can bring DPS through Desperation, or set up allies with similar low HP builds with Reciprocal Aid. Breath of Life perhaps eventually replaced by Spd Smoke.

She's one of the first units I summoned so I decided not to care about IV's and just work with it. Basically she tanks mages (and bows) on enemy phase with all the stupid skills I gave her lol. And thanks to her decent atk/speed she can sit there for turns on end eating them away with counter attacks.
More effective than you might think! She can single-handedly take out the majority of full mage comps. I assume there are other archers and stuff that can do the same thing and I KNOW that my build isn't optimal; but it's fun nonetheless xd.

Setsuna, my second +10, is my goto PVE unit. Sure, there's better archers out there, but she's speedy and versatile. I can swap her over to a brave bow and desperation and she clears chain challenges like a champ. This setup if for her rare stints in arena.

Nietzsche Setsuna
“God is Dead” -Friedrich Nietzsche
Howdy there, you totally heterosexual band of naked cowboys! Today I'm gonna learn you how to take the aloof idiot that is Setsuna, and turn her into a flaming pile of garbage that will absolutely dumpster anyone unfortunate enough to exist in the same timeline as her.
Weapon: Brave Bow+
Setsuna lives in a constant state of having no idea what is going on around her, which means that she also has absolutely no sense of fear. The brave bow will allow Setsuna to kick the enemy's front door in, raid their refrigerator for food, watch their TV, sleep in their bed, and assert overall dominance by putting 4 arrows into their head instead of 2. However, this will cause her to overstay her welcome, reducing 5 from her effective speed.
Support: Reciprocal Aid
Setsuna believes that sharing is caring, which is why she made a ritualistic pact with Moloch, the biblical god of sacrifice. Using the powers she obtained through the sacrifices of many kidnapped children, she can trade her HP with another unit.
Super: Ather
People like to tell me that Ather is Ike's signature move. To this I commonly reply with something along the lines of, “God-fearing mortals pale in comparison to Setsuna. The strong shall be made weak, and the weak will bow to her.” This is why I put a bullet between Ike's eyes and gave Setsuna his Ather. Not only does it allow her to pump out damage worse than what Fire Emblem has done to my social life, but it will also allow her to eat the corpse of the enemy and heal back half of the damage delt as health.
A Skill: Life and Death 3
As the all-knowing omnipotent being that Setsuna is, she understands that time on this Earth is short. The average human lifespan as of 2018 is about 79 years, and judging by appearance and status, I think it's safe to guess that Setsuna is in her mid-twenties. This only gives her about ~50 years to increase the harrowing toll of her genocidal rampages. This is why she trades -5 Def/Res for +5 Atk/Spd, so that she wastes no time slaughtering the undesirables.
B Skill: Desperation 3
No mere mortal should dare interrupt Setsuna. With desperation 3, as long as her HP is below 75%, she won't even allow them to have a chance to attack before she makes her follow-up. The skill may be named Desperation, but it isn't referring to Setsuna, as it will leave the enemy desperate to flee from the holy crusade of Setsuna.
C Skill: Infantry Pulse 3
Setsuna stands as the ward between man and god. Any other infantry units on the team with less HP than her will rally to her, reducing their super cooldown by one. Not only will this help them activate their supers faster, but it will also stack with other abilities of the sort, allowing them to stay focused and keep the whites in their sights.
Seal: Flashing Blade 3 (or heavy)
A woman who isn't afraid to spit in the mouth of the gods shouldn't have to wait for cooldowns. If her Spd is greater than the opponents, then she will drop her cooldowns twice as fast. This will allow her to remind her opponents that they are a junkyard of disappointment and that she will take out the trash.
In conclusion:
I know you're asking yourself, “Jake, isn't this just a standard Quadsuna build?” The answer is no. Quadsuna alone lacks the ability to leave the enemy mentally exhausted. This build, boasting Reciprocal Aid, will allow Setsuna to actually HEAL allies, and then gain the HP back with Ather. When paired up with my patented AIDSlord Shigure build, she can fully heal a teammate and herself with Aether in one turn. The pure agony of having a glass-cannon actually healing massive amounts to the other bonobos on your team will be enough to make the opponent play a game of Six-Bullet Russian Roulette.

Build Name: ?? ???? ?????!
²⁰¹⁸ ⁰⁴ ⁰⁷
This is the Setsuna build that leads my first team. She has bond rank S and support rank S with Olivia. Right now she has water blessing. She is at five-star plus 8.
Her speed is absolutely filthy; 45 spd with brave bow+ equipped makes me sick.
I normally run her with Olivia with Hone Atk 3 and Delthea with Drive Atk 2.
Love Abounds Hector can be an issue for her and so can other insanely high defensive tanks. But those should really be dealt with with the other members of the team. If they have already taken damage then Setsuna with desperation activated should be able to finish them.
