Boons

  • +ATK: For maximum power, this will be Peri's preferred boon on a normal Brave Lance set.

  • +SPD: Speed will be preferred on virtually every other set (plus the Brave Lance set when on a cavalry team), keeping her up to pace with her targets.

Neutral

  • RES: Peri absolutely appreciates her resistance for its use with ploys and keeping up her magical bulk, so it should be avoided as a bane if possible. However, even on a magic tanking build, she will still probably prefer a speed boon over a resistance one for denying enemy follow-ups.

Banes

  • -HP / -DEF: These two banes are practically interchangeable, equally Peri's least valued stats. If being picky, HP may be slightly more appreciated when magic tanking, while a duelist build may marginally prefer the defense.

What's better than giving enemy stabby? Giving enemy stabby with absolutely zero risk of any stabby back! And luckily for Peri, she is a fantastic user of the Firesweep Lance—and arguably the best Cavalry user of it when combined with the supportive debuff potential of ploy skills.

For her movement assist, Draw Back may be slightly preferred to keep her a tad safer, as she is unable to counterattack on enemy phase, but Reposition works just as well.

Luna is a great special choice to let her burst through tankier threats such as armored units. If she can afford to use the Quickened Pulse seal, with it Moonbow can be activated on her first initiation.

With a speed boon and Swift Sparrow, Peri initiates with a deadly 51/40 Atk/Spd, which can be pushed even further with her C slot and/or her seal. Darting Blow is her best budget option, as doubling opponents is essential, and her attack is already a point higher than a Brave Lance+ combined with Death Blow. However, if Peri is supported by a Hone Cavalry and has a C slot or seal boosting her speed, and one feels her speed is already plenty high, Death Blow can still be used for maximum power. Life and Death should be avoided, as it ruins her ability to use ploy skills, though works all the same if one does not care for ploys.

Drag Back lets Peri retreat to safety after dealing damage, which is crucial due Firesweep Lance's nonexistent enemy phase. Hit and Run works as an alternative, also letting her retreat but without pulling any survivors. If one does not like the in-and-out style of combat, Lancebreaker can be used to secure matchups against enemy lancers who may also run Lancebreaker, and will also let her pierce through targets such as Wary Fighter Effie.

Thanks to her high base resistance, especially when compared to the many sword users that make up the majority of her targets, Peri is a fantastic ploy user. Spd Ploy is her favorite option, improving her speed matchups for both her all her teammates. Def Ploy instead boosts her damage, and can be run either here or as a sacred seal (just, not at the same time, as they do not stack). Either Threaten Def or Threaten Spd make workable alternatives if either ploy is unavailable.

If one lacks the Def Ploy seal or the skill is already in the C slot, Speed +3 is the preferred backup option to bolster her chance of follow-ups. As mentioned earlier, Quickened Pulse is a second alternative, letting her open up the match on any doubled enemy with an instant Moonbow.

As is true for most Firesweep Lance users, Peri is also quite powerful with a Brave Lance. She can take this build in two different directions: The first is centered around general use, where Peri primarily attempts to boost her attack as much as possible, aiming for quick KOs. The second direction is a quad build. Normally, Peri's speed is just under the recommended threshold for a such a build, but when utilized on a Cavalry team with the benefits of Hone and Goad Cavalry skills, this option opens up to her as a very real possibility.

Due to the nature of the two weapons, the skill setup for a Brave Lance build isn't too fundamentally different from a Firesweep build, just with a slightly greater focus on attack. Moonbow + Quickened Pulse becomes a little more enticing and Death Blow becomes the optimal A slot to maximize the chance of an instant knockout. On a Cavalry team quad-focused set, the original setup of Luna and Swift Sparrow give her max speed and special power across four attacks.

Likewise, her B slot options remain largely the same, with Drag Back/Hit and Run letting her retreat post-combat, or Lancebreaker securing matchups vs bulky enemy Lancers. Desperation opens up as an option for the quad path, letting Peri perform four instant attacks and a special proc when active, eviscerating most enemies.

Def Ploy inches itself to the optimal position as well, letting Peri deal 10 additional damage when she lands it. Threaten Def remains the budget option, and Spd Ploy continues to work on a quad set, though in such a case she may rather opt for her own Cavalry skill, such as Fortify Cavalry.

With just a resistance-refined Berkut's Lance, Peri sits at 41 resistance when attacked by a mage or dragon, giving her fantastic magical bulk to combat such threats. Combined with Distant Counter, she becomes one of the best magical tanks available for Cavalry teams.

Guard keeps Peri safe from any special procs such as Moonbow that aim to pierce through her resistance, common on many mages. Quick Riposte is an alternative to guarantee she doubles even super fast mages. As popular mages tend to be either very slow or very fast, Peri will usually be either doubling with little effort, or have very little chance of ever doubling, which Quick Riposte fixes.

Ploys still remain Peri's optimal C slot skills, though as an enemy phase oriented set, Atk Ploy opens up as a decent option to ensure she tanks as hard as possible. However, it is worth keeping in mind that magical units tend to also come paired with high resistance stats, making her usage of ploys somewhat less reliable. As such, it may be worth it to just stick to your average team support skill such as a Hone Atk or Spur Spd (or a Cavalry buff if applicable) for more consistency.

For her seal, Distant Defense will go a long way towards ensuring the damage she takes is as close to zero as possible. Any ploy skills that are not in use in her C slot also continue to work, as does a basic Speed +3 or Resistance +3 seal for reliable improvements to her matchups vs fast mages.

Happen upon a random Peri, or simply looking for a basic lance attacker? Fortunately, Peri by default comes along with the Killer Lance, which for little cost can be upgraded to the deadly Slaying Lance, a weapon that has quickly found itself one of the most popular in the game. With just a speed boon (or seal), Fury, and a speed refine, Peri already sits at fierce 50 attack and a swift 42 speed, which turns her into a fairly capable melee duelist.

While she of course has several options, most of Peri's default kit can also serve her quite fairly. Luna is nice, though Glimmer is a decent special with comparable results to Moonbow, which fires off quite quickly when sitting at 1 cooldown. Resistance +3 can work fine to better allow her to act as a safe counterpick versus red dragons in Arena Assault. And of course, Threaten Def is already a powerful skill, common on many physical attackers.

Peri's defense isn't the greatest however, sitting at just 23 at neutral. As such, it isn't uncommon for her HP to fall quite a bit after just a single combat. This does though open her up to HP threshold skills such as Desperation, which synergizes great with Fury and her nice speed, letting her continue to clean up foes even after she's been weakened. Other skills such as Vantage or Escape Route can be utilized to decent effect if Desperation is unavailable.

Def Ploy continues to be a solid seal option, though other seals such as Close Defense or Speed +3 work perfectly well as standard picks to increase her dueling ability.

Introduction

Peri is an eccentric cavalry lancer with an immense love of impaling, and a fairly nice stat spread to back up her hobby. She even boasts a generously high resistance, giving her access to powerful debuffing ploy skills. However, despite this, she sits in a fairly odd position where she is often simply overshadowed. That is to say, she is at the end of the day just a rather typical lancer. A great one perhaps, but one that sits beside other cavalry and other lancers with many more alluring and enticing niches. She lacks the absurd reach of ranged cavalry units, instead striking as far as typical infantry ranged units. Her power does not hit that of bladetome cavalry, and she also holds no exclusive skill or unique prf that grants her unique supportive potential or a rare effect such as Distant Counter. Also her status as Cavalry, while granting her an extra movement and access to class-unique buffs, lacks the pure freedom and retreat potential compared to similar flier units, and locks her out of powerful skills such as Wrath that would otherwise be a much appreciated to boost her power.

Her strengths should not be devalued however. She remains a rather flexible unit with both deadly stopping power, and valuable supportive ability. All in all, still a powerful force to be reckoned with, and likely to match all expectations. She unfortunately just lives in a world where there are others that not just match expectations, but regularly exceed them.

Strengths

Good offensive statline

Peri actually possess a fairly solid offensive stat spread of 33/33. This is one of the greatest among all lance cavalry, only just barely beaten out by Oscar, who sits at 33/34. However, Peri does have one considerable benefit that can sometimes give her a strong leg up on Oscar...

Excellent resistance

Quite rare amongst melee attackers, Peri manages to keep her solid attack and speed combo, yet still sit at a fairly decent 30 resistance. With resistance more typically the melee attacker's bane of choice, this gives Peri the excellent opportunity to utilize ploy skills, which will apply to the majority of her targets without much trouble. It also makes her somewhat more difficult for mages to take down, which usually tend to walk all over most melee units.

Weaknesses

Blue Cavalry slot is extraordinarily competitive

Despite being a surprisingly good unit overall, it is extremely easy for Peri to be overlooked on most teams primarily thanks to the existence of Reinhardt, as well as other blue Cavalry mages such as L'Arachel, whose sheer power and attack range is difficult for her to keep up with.

Even other Lance Cavalry offer some very stiff competition, such as Camus who comes bundled with a free Distant Counter weapon, or Abel, who has just a single point less of speed and offers a similar niche, but is significantly cheaper to build, already packaged with a Brave Lance.

Middling physical bulk for a melee unit

The combination of Peri's strong offenses along with her high resistance comes at a price. Her HP and defense are both quite low, an unattractive quality for a unit who will often be taking on other physical units. This typically forces Peri to run weapons and skills that keep her out of harm's way, or at least be absolutely sure her targets do not survive a single round of combat.

Team Options
  • Eldigan, Sigurd, Xander, Cecilia, Gunnthrá, Frederick, Brave Lyn, Elise, Priscilla - Peri shines her best when on a team with other strong Cavalry units such as these, who can give her a significant power boost with Hone Cavalry. While it is hard to recommend against using either Reinhardt or a blue blade mage such as L'Arachel, it should be noted their their coverage next to Peri is largely redundant.

  • Hector, Dorcas, Brave Ike, Amelia, Winter Chrom - With Peri able to easily eliminate most red units from the field, sturdy green tanks will be able to perform their jobs with little issue, Peri also able to support them afterwards with ploys.

Counters
  • Hector, Dorcas, Brave Ike, Amelia, Winter Chrom - The same green tanks Peri can support well are also able to completely wall her if she finds them as her enemy.

  • Raven, Frederick, Cherche - Brave Axe users in particular will instantly eradicate her thanks to her low defense.

  • Nino, Linde, Rhajat, Micaiah - Despite Peri's good resistance, her overall magical bulk outside of dedicated anti-mage builds is still not superb thanks to her low HP. Super fast bladetome mages, as well as those with attacks effective against cavalry, will still likely be able to take her down quite convincingly.

  • Brave Lyn, Halloween Jakob, Bridal Cordelia, and other archers - Ranged units who hit Peri for her low physical defense are likely to leave quite a dent. Even when she does have Distant Counter, she is still not all that big a fan of combating them.

  • Winter Tharja, Fjorm, Myrrh, Young Tiki, Fae - Several common units with high resistance stats may find themselves immune to a Peri's ploys, devaluing her support effectiveness.
