Key stats worth increasing through nature if possible.
Complementary stats that matter, but not to the point of picking them over key stats for nature increase.
Relatively worthless stat that can safely be decreased through nature.

+IV

  • A +Speed boon is the most obvious choice to go for, supporting his title of being agile.

  • Should you ever think to yourself "I want to run a Brave build on him!" or "I have enough speed, no worries~", +Attack is certainly usable.

-IV

  • If you take a look at Oscar's stats, you will very likely notice that his resistance is his weak point, making it obvious that a bane of -Def-- of course not, you will almost always want -Resistance!

  • A -HP bane is not the end of the world, but it is generally worse than -Resistance because it reduces Oscar's physical soak, and he denies doubles anyway.

    • The bane can be patched up using a cavalry team with Fortify Cavalry, too.

Pulled Nephenee but wanted Oscar? No worries. Yep.

This is a generalist and expensive build which allows Oscar to fulfill a good amount of roles by utilizing Fury and getting rid of the Triangle Adept effect.

Draconic Aura is taken for his special slot since he reaches 50 points in attack with this set, allowing it to add 15 damage to damage per activation. On the other hand, if you would like Oscar to deal with armoured units in extremely high-scoring arena battles such as Zephiel or Black Knight, Luna is certainly the better option.

As for the B slot, Quick Riposte is taken for this build because Oscar's speed isn't outstanding compared to the rest of the heroes. It is however enough to deny follow-ups, making Quick Riposte a viable option for guaranteed kills when baiting.

Drag Back can be taken if you have no idea what to use, to enable safe positioning when engaging the enemy, allowing Oscar to retreat out of the red zone (or the border) with the help of allies' positioning skills.

Desperation can be taken to take advantage of Oscar's speed, and will prove useful if the enemy will trigger their special upon counterattack.

Using your Nephenee for Oscar. Yep, yep. About right.

You've heard of Firesweep on the Cordelia, now get ready for "better Roderick".

This set takes advantage of Oscar's offensive spread (for a horse rider) and allows him to be an absolute monster!

With the use of Life & Death, the Firesweep Lance+, the Speed +1 Sacred Seal, and a +Speed IV, nice guy will reach 53 attack 43 speed, 61 physical soak, and 56 magical soak. Amazing, huh? Not only will he deny every single double in the world (okay, there are very few exceptions), but he will still be able to take a hit from physical units! Unfortunately, blue and green mages will very likely kill him due to the reduction of resistance, so be careful!

You can also opt for Swift Sparrow if you so desire. However, Oscar will only have 38 speed in the enemy phase and become vulnerable to heroes with 43 speed or higher.

Hit & Run and Drag Back are standard skills for such a build. Attack without penalty, retreat, rinse and repeat. Truly an agile build.

Finally, the chosen special skill will be Draconic Aura due to the massive increase in attack with the help of Oscar's new weapon and Life & Death (or Swift Sparrow).

Just remember to never run Armored Blow or Warding Blow with this weapon. Please.

A budget build. Barely any different from the original, huh?

Well, the only additions are Luna and Fury.

With the help of Fury's +3 defense and the Defense +1 Sacred Seal, Oscar will reach 30 points in said stat. With Triangle Adept, this means he will laugh in glee at the damage done by sword units!

Luna is taken because it deals a very nice amount of damage per activation. Bonfire is used for a flat increase in damage, and since Oscar's becomes 30 with this set, he will gain 15 extra damage per activation. Should you value frequency however, nothing but a good old bow on a Moonbow.

As for the B slot, Blue Tomebreaker is listed as an alternative in case you run into the speedy Blue Mages. It is not to deny their double, but to delete them from the game if encountered.

Note: Do not use Bonfire if you do not possess the Defense +1 Sacred Seal (or Squad Ace B) and Fury.

Introduction

Pros:

  • One of the best offensive spreads for Lance Cavaliers
  • Native user of a dual spur user (using speed, nontheless!)
  • Lance user with lancebreaker, absolute heresy (like Ike)
  • Sweetheart

Cons:

  • Does not bring anything new to do the table, making him the automatic lesser desired unit in the Dauntless Crimeans banner
  • His resistance is the cost for such great stats
  • High competition for a blue slot in your team, let alone as a lance cavalier, due to the existence of heroes such as Reinhardt and Camus.

Oscar, the Agile Horseman is a lance cavalier with incredible offense, decent physical bulk and low resistance, effectively being faster than Peri and stronger than Roderick.

His defense is nothing great, and will take decent damage from sword users. His resistance is even worse than the former, and expect to be easily killed by red mages with the ability to follow-up on him.

Unfortunately, there is not much else to say about him. He follows the standard formula of having no more than 40 HP, low resistance, and the rest of his BST allocated in his offensive prowess and defense, making him similar to units such as Nephenee, Lancina, and Valter.

Thus, Agile Horseman is a fantastic unit to utilize due to his agility and power, while being able to negate a decent amount of damage from his colour advantage match-up.

However, don't be fooled. Just because he appears aside Nephenee and Elincia, both of which possess their own level of ridiculous (Wrath on the former, Amiti on the latter), Oscar is not someone to be sad about pulling. Husbandos are as valuable as waifus!

Strengths
  • High speed

    • It will be very hard for an enemy unit to follow-up on him, lest they are heavily merged and/or possess Life & Death.
  • High attack

  • Decent physical bulk

    • With 40 HP and 26 defense, Oscar can take a hit from almost any single hit in the game.
    • It will take a hero 66 neutral or 55 advantage attack for Oscar to stop being agile and become incapacitated.
    • Follow-ups or brave hits from the enemy will instead need 46 neutral or 39 advantage attack to defeat Oscar.
Weaknesses
  • Low resistance
    • Possessing great speed, attack, defense and HP, somewhere will have to take a hit.
    • A magic user will need 61 neutral, 51 advantage or 77 disadvantage attack (such as red mages) to one-hit kill the horseman who doesn't open his eyes.
    • As for follow-ups, heroes will need either 41 neutral or 52 disadvantage attack to triumph over him.
Team Options

Barring the obvious choice of using Oscar in Horse Emblem (which will be excluded from any mentions below), he would greatly appreciate being run alongside a red mage to counter his weakness against magic.

Little tid bit about Raigh. His speed tier is right after Tharja if you exclude the 5 star exclusive red mages, and he also possesses as much attack as all of them.

The green unit can be up to the player's choice, since Oscar's quite good at dealing with neutral match-ups.

If looking to counter the arena defense meta, Oscar fulfills one of those slots by being an effective check for Ryoma, Xander and Ike.

Therefore, you can simply pair him up with a speedy (but decently physically bulky) red sword to deal with Hector, and a green mage with good resistance to face off Reinhardt and maybe Brave Lyn.

Speedy Swordsmen & Swordswomen

Mage Duelist Green Mages

Defensive Raven Green Mages

Counters

Excluding the obvious fact that Oscar will be killed on sight by green units in general, as mentioned above in the weaknesses section, he will have trouble against a mage with lots of speedy. In other words, "meta" mages.

  • Life & Death Blade Mages (Linde, Spring Camilla, Tharja)
  • Celica
  • Dire Thunder users Reinhardt and Olwen
  • Probably Nowi with Bonfire and Vantage equipped.

Just remember that his speed is his saving grace, and it will allow the agile horseman to survive disadvantage match-ups!
