A speed-boosting nature works wonders for Nowi, allowing her to survive rounds of combat with many units she otherwise couldn’t. Marth, Camilla, Takumi, Kagero and Corrin(F) are unable to double attack her with this boon. It also means she can double attack Chrom, Adult Tiki and Ephraim, allowing her to easily KO them. As she mostly fights melee units, resistance is the least important for her.

Skill Sets
Fury-Breaker Build
Budget
Optimal
Lightning Breath+ A Fury 3
Reposition B Swordbreaker 3
Moonbow C Threaten Res 3

SP Cost1,625

  • Preferred Nature: +Speed / -Resistance
  • Weapon: Lightning Breath+
  • Assist: Reposition / Flexible
  • Special: Moonbow
  • A Slot: Fury
  • B Slot: Swordbreaker
  • C Slot: Threaten Resistance

Fury can be used to great effect on Nowi, as the bonus stats improve many of her matchups against other blue units. Swordbreaker is also taken to ensure that Nowi can win a 1-on-1 against Lucina. Moonbow provides a small, but significant boost to her damage output, whereas the Support and C skill slots are relatively flexible as always.

Adept-Breaker Build
Budget
Lightning Breath+ A Triangle Adept 3
Reposition B Lancebreaker 3
Moonbow C Threaten Res 3

SP Cost1,625

  • Preferred Nature: +Speed / -Resistance
  • Weapon: Lightning Breath+
  • Assist: Reposition / Flexible
  • Special: Moonbow
  • A Slot: Triangle Adept
  • B Slot: Lancebreaker
  • C Slot: Threaten Resistance

The combination of Triangle Adept and Lancebreaker allows Nowi to single-handedly combat some of the most common units in the current metagame.

With Triangle Adept, Nowi's prominent counter in Lucina becomes an easy target. The extra 20% damage is enough for Nowi to OHKO Lucina unless she has a -Atk spread. Lucina isn't the only unit to fall to this build: all red units will be unable to duel Nowi if she's packing this skill.

Lancebreaker allows her to deal with any lance user as well, including Ephraim and Effie, though this can be replaced with Vantage. Note that Nowi will be ORKO'd or 2RKO'd by almost any green unit in the game however.

Quick Riposte Build
Budget
Lightning Breath+ A Triangle Adept 3
Reposition B Quick Riposte 3
Moonbow C Threaten Res 3

SP Cost1,685

  • Preferred Nature: +Speed / -Resistance
  • Weapon: Lightning Breath+
  • Assist: Reposition / Flexible
  • Special: Moonbow
  • A Slot: Triangle Adept
  • B Slot: Quick Riposte
  • C Slot: Threaten Resistance

Nowi's tendency to bait enemy units and her ability to counter at range makes her a great candidate for Quick Riposte. Triangle Adept is still recommended to ensure that Nowi can fight Lucina. This build is recommended if you already have a way of dealing with enemy blue units, as it makes Nowi a capable red-killer and lure.

Introduction

Pros:

  • Weighted strongly in Arena
  • Ranged counterattack
  • Useful support abilities
  • Excellent bulk

Cons:

  • Has many common counters
  • Very low speed

Nowi is a blue dragon with great stats and abilities that make her somewhat of a counter to the metagame that revolves around red units. Her coveted ranged counter lets her trade heavy magic damage onto whoever attacks her. Her stats and abilities lend to her role as a frontline tank, but Nowi must watch out for some key threats to her existence.

Strengths/Weaknesses

Like other dragons, she has a huge stat total, coming in at a whopping 177. This helps to boost the ranking of Arena teams which feature her. She has a unique combination of skills, allowing her to counter-attack ranged attacks, while dealing magic damage. She is very effective against red units, and even blue units due to her magic-based attack. She is very adept at scoring 2HKO’s thanks to her Threaten Res skill. Rally skills are always amazing, and Defense is no exception. If Nowi is unable to tank a unit’s attack, she can still be useful by assisting a team-mate in doing so. Nowi’s advantage compared to other dragons is her Lightning Breath+ weapon and color, which allow her to be the anti-metagame threat that she is. Thanks to her high defenses, she is notoriously difficult to KO without a super-effective weapon. Enemies that attack Nowi must be very careful, as they will suffer heavy damage in return, as well as a resistance debuff for her to utilize on a counterattack.

Like most tanks, she is let down often by her speed, which sees many enemies being able to double attack her. This includes common Falchion users Lucina and Marth, who Nowi cannot survive a round of combat with, Kagero and Takumi, who would deal little damage otherwise. These units tend to be very common in the Arena, making Nowi’s job harder than it needs to be. Being a blue unit who is countered by some red units can make her less desirable than others, depending on your team.

Team Options

Nowi’s abilities can be used on a wide range of teams, as one of the premiere blue units in the game. She is one of the core units featured in the Double Dragon team, a popular high-stat team for the Arena. Ranged attackers such as Takumi, Nino and Julia are great partners for her since they can chip down units for her to finish off. The latter two also benefit from her resistance debuff. Kagero is also amazing for handling Falchions. Nowi appreciates a strong red team-mate to handle Hector, Camilla and Julia.

Counters

Nowi is threatened first and foremost by Marth, Lucina and Chrom who all wield Falchions. The former two have enough speed to double attack and KO her, but Chrom trades about evenly. The next problem for Nowi are green units, most notably Hector, Nino and Julia. Hector is easy enough to avoid, but Julia and Nino have high resistance and KO her easily. Camilla gets to attack Nowi four times, easily KO’ing her. Lastly, Kagero is a massive threat to her, double attacking and KO’ing her with ease.
