Boons
- +SPD: As a dancer, Ninian values her survivability above all else. A boon in this stat coupled with a Speed-refined weapon allows Ninian to reach a respectable 39 Speed, meaning she needs little to no support to avoid being doubled and will thus increase her overall survivability.
- +ATK: At a low base of 24, Ninian’s damage output is downright poor. However, her ability to deal magical/adaptive damage in addition to this stat being a super boon allows her to run an Attack boon to great effect; it also bumps her up a BST bin in Arena. However, the trade-off in bulk compared to taking a Speed boon makes it less desirable at lower merges.
Neutral
- DEF / RES: Although Ninian’s decent Speed stat makes it unlikely that she’ll ever take more than one hit at a time, it’s recommended to leave her Defense and Resistance stats alone to not lower her already middling defenses and preserve her bulk. A Resistance bane is particularly damaging as it lowers the stat by 4 opposed to the usual 3.
Banes
- -HP: To retain the majority of her overall bulk, taking an HP bane is a fantastic choice as refining her weapon effectively patches up the stat loss. However, if one wants to run skills like Infantry Pulse or Panic Ploy, a bane in any of her other stats barring Speed can be considered.

- Passive C: Infantry Rush / Flexible
- Sacred Seal: Drive Atk / Quick Riposte / Close Def / Distant Def
This set focuses entirely on Ninian’s survivability during the Enemy Phase, as her main goal should always be to stay alive as long as possible and support her teammates with Dance. By opting to forego the tried-and-tested Lightning Breath for Water Breath, Ninian gains an invaluable +4 to her Defense and Resistance stats should she be attacked. Though this comes at the cost of being unable to counterattack against ranged opponents, the additional bulk she gains is well worth it. Taking a Speed-refine here elevates her survivability further and when coupled with a Speed boon, it is unlikely that she’ll ever need more than a single buff to avoid being doubled through normal means.
For her A slot, Steady Breath is a fantastic choice, granting Ninian another additional +4 to her Defense when attacked as well as faster Special cooldown in the Enemy Phase. The latter effect is particularly powerful in this build as it gives her considerable sustain through frequent healing Special procs. On a budget, Fury and Triangle Adept are acceptable alternatives but keep in mind that her sustain will be greatly lowered as a result.
With Steady Breath, Aether’s long cooldown is a non-issue and will be fully charged after a single round of combat in which Ninian doubles back. In addition to simultaneous healing and damage output increase, Aether also scores well in Arena. For more frequent healing, Noontime is also an option and will be fully charged after she is hit just once.
Chill Spd is a powerful skill that lets Ninian provide team support in the form of a considerable -7 Speed debuff to the fastest unit on the opposing team. Not only does this allow her allies to deal with pesky speedsters who could otherwise pose a threat, it also enhances her own survivability as opponents who have enough Speed to double her naturally are likely to be the ones targetted by Chill Spd's debuff. Wings of Mercy is also a common staple on dancers, and for a good reason. At the cost of her B skill, Ninian gains incredible flexibility in the way she can support the rest of her team, often allowing her teammates to get out of a tough bind.
Ninian's C slot is flexible and is open to any skill that complement's her team's needs -- there are, however, a few standout options. Infantry Rush is a particularly effective choice when using her alongside fellow infantry allies and circumvents the need for such allies to run the Heavy Blade seal, allowing their seal slot to be open to other strong alternatives. Her innate Fortify Dragons is also a fantastic choice for her C slot but should only be used when running her with other dragonstone users.
As for her seal, Drive Atk is a strong choice to enhance the support she offers to her allies. Should one choose to run Wings of Mercy over Chill Spd, Quick Riposte is a good seal slot to allow her to make the most use out of Steady Breath’s cooldown effect -- this is especially effective if running Aether since her Speed will often be to prevent doubles instead of causing them. Lastly, Close or Distant Def can be used as alternatives to enhance her tanking capabilities.

- Passive C: Hone Atk / Fortify Dragons / Flexible
- Sacred Seal: Close Def / Distant Def
A relatively budget friendly build that allows Ninian to take the role of both a dancer and a dedicated check against red foes. Since Ninian will be entirely reliant on Triangle Adept for both taking and dealing damage, any IVs can work with this build. For her weapon, Lightning Breath is a great choice and grants her the ability to deal with the occasional red mage. However if one wishes to not invest too heavily, then her innate Light Breath is also a decent weapon on Ninian; the buff it provides to her and her teammates may prove to be useful in certain scenarios.
As for her Special, Ninian has several different options here. Luna is a particularly powerful option and helps mitigate Ninian’s rather low Attack stat. Moonbow can also be considered should one desire more frequent, albeit weaker, Special activations. For more consistent damage output increase, Iceberg scales decently with Ninian’s Resistance stat and grants +13 damage on every activation if assuming neutral Resistance.
Using Swordbreaker in conjunction with Triangle Adept allows Ninian to deal with even Falchion wielders with relative ease. It also has the added benefit of counteracting skills such as Bold Fighter and Wary Fighter; keep in mind that Swordbreaker makes such instances a regular Speed contest, making a Speed-refine on her weapon much more impactful. For more overall utility, Wings of Mercy is again another fantastic option, or if wanting to invest as little as possible, her innate Escape Route is an option as well.
Ninian’s C slot is relatively flexible and can be filled by a buff or Spur of one’s choice. Her seal choice ultimately comes down to the types of red units one wishes her to counter harder. Since red mages are rather scarce in the current meta, Close Def will almost always be the preferred option but she can still run Distant Def to decent effect.
Introduction
Hailing from Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, Ninian is currently the only dancer in the game who can wield breaths. As such, Ninian can provide great flexibility to her team not only due to Dance but also because of the various weapons she can wield effectively. However, her ability to use Dance comes at a cost: her BST. Coming with a neutral BST of 149, Ninian effectively weighs the same as an infantry mage in Arena, meaning that she requires heavy investment and merges to not weigh her team down in terms of score.
Ninian sports a horrid base Attack stat of 24, and though she should not be seeing much combat anyways, this makes attempting to run an offensive build on her a fruitless endeavor without sufficient Attack stacking. What she lacks in combat prowess, however, she makes up in survivability. Sporting a relatively decent HP stat and a respectable base Speed of 33, Ninian can definitely take a hit or two if she needs to. Though her defensive spread of 23/27 isn’t outstanding, it’s not terrible either and can be worked with to prolong her stay on any given map.
Overall, though Ninian is definitely not the strongest fighter in the game, she is an incredible support unit and can easily fit in a number of team compositions. Dance alone is a powerful tool, and when adding her decent survivability and versatility into consideration, Ninian proves her worth as a dancer and will often be an incredible tool at your disposal.
Strengths
Dance
Regardless of her own stats, Dance on its own is an incredibly powerful and useful skill, often allowing one to escape even the closest of calls.
Decent Survivability
When accounting for the +5 HP a weapon refine grants her, Ninian comes with a neutral physical bulk of 70 and a magical bulk of 74. This coupled with her base Speed of 33 that can be built upon to prevent doubles means Ninian will often require several hits to go down. This is a particularly great characteristic for a dancer to have, as they strive to stay along as possible to provide support.
Dragonstone User
As a dragonstone user, Ninian is allowed access to a wide variety of weapons, most of which she can use rather effectively such as the above-listed Water and Lightning Breaths. This lets her role fluctuate depending on what is needed of her and the weapon she is wielding, giving her great versatility.
Weaknesses
Low Attack
Ninian’s low base Attack of 24 means that outside of relying on skills such as Triangle Adept or Special activations to do damage, her damage output will be pretty low. This locks her out of ever attempting to take on a more offensive role unless one goes to great lengths to build upon her subpar Attack.
Low BST
In exchange for the ability to use Dance, Ninian suffers from having low BST, resulting in none of her stats being exceptional per se. In addition, should Ninian not wield high SP cost skills and have some merges, she will drop one’s score in Arena considerably.
Effective Damage
Ninian also suffers from effective damage as both infantry and a dragonstone user; Falchion, Naga, and Poison Dagger wielders have little to no issue decimating Ninian should she be ill-equipped to fight these kinds of opponents.
Team Options
Counters
As both an infantry unit and a dragonstone user, Ninian is weak to wielders of the Poison Dagger, Falchion, or Naga. Though she does have relatively decent bulk, her Defense is still rather lacking and any strong green melee can easily abuse this to defeat her without issue. Archers also pose a serious threat to Ninian, particularly if running Brave or Firesweep Bow. Last but not least, since the majority of her bulk comes from her ability to avoid doubles, users of skills that allow follow-up attacks regardless of Speed are one of her greatest weaknesses.
-
Effective Weapons: Most units using such weapons like Kagero, Alm, Julia, and Deirdre typically have no problem in taking down the poor dancer.
-
Strong Green Melee: By abusing Weapon Triangle advantage as well as Ninian’s mediocre Defense stat, strong green melee units like Winter Chrom, Cherche, and Brave Ike are incredibly hard counters to Ninian.
-
Archers: Offensive archers such as Bridal Cordelia, Brave Lyn, and Hinoka (WF) who use weapons such as Brave or Firesweep Bow abuse Ninian’s low Defense stat as well, and often need only two strikes to finish the job.
-
Natural Follow-ups: Skills like Bold Fighter allow units such as Zelgius, Fallen Hardin, and Hector (LA) to bypass the need for Speed and easily defeat Ninian. Ephraim’s Pursuit also does so to a similar effect.

A tanky (ish) dancer! From all my dancers, (YT Olivia, Azura and Performing Inigo), Ninian can withstand most hits. And in my opinion, dancers should be able to stay alive in arenas, chain challenges, as I honestly fully depend on dancers. Though this Ninian is most useful in chain challenges.
Weapon: Lightning Breath+ (+Spd)
With Ninian's def and res high enough to not die in one go, Lightning Breath is to be provided for her to hit back any ranged attacks. Especially red mages. With the +spd refinery, Ninian will 'technically' have the same spd as a +spd Ninian, avoiding doubles, once again, to keep her alive. This refinery also boosts her hp.
Special Skill: Aether
In chain challenges, Ninian can gain hp easily from attacking with this skill.
Skill A: Fortress Defense/(Fury 3)/(Defense +3)
It may seem stupid for Ninian to have fortress defense, but I intend for her to only support and not attack much, only if necessary. With fortress defense, I can sacrifice her attack for a high amount of defense, and if not, I can utilize fury. Though fury decreases her hp, leading her to ultimately not be as tanky as I want her to be. Otherwise fortress defense, defense +3 is another skill I utilize, as it does not sacrifice any attack. Though I'd prefer fortress defense as an addition +5 def is much more than +3.
Skill B : Wings of Mercy 3
...To activate her dance for anyone in need. With her additional def, even if she teleports to an enemy area, she can stay alive.
Skill C: Fortify dragons/(Hone atk)
I use her in my dragon emblem (Consisting of young Tiki, Myrrh and Nowi), this skill is to boost bulk. But if I utilize her for other teams, I equip hone atk.
Seal: Quick Riposte 3
I'm scared if she can't double.
Overall, I have NO CLUE how to build my own units. This Ninian may be awful or whatever, I really don't know. I usually use builds people recommends, or builds from their pages in gamepress, but this is the first time I tried to build someone on my own. I hope she isn't as trashy as she may seem.

Miracle | C | Fortify Dragons |
| S | Fortress Res 3 | ||
Ninian wants only to be an ultra durable support unit; this is where she excels. Other dancers are simply better than her when it comes to combat, so she is better off foregoing that notion altogether.
+ Spd / - Atk
It is exceedingly rare for - Atk to be an optimal bane for a unit in Fire Emblem Heroes. However, I firmly believe this to be true of Ninian whose Atk begins at a dismal 24. As for her boon, + Spd works very well in preventing enemies from landing follow-up attacks.
Water Breath+ (+ Def)
Given that I Ninian should be played with the sole goals of dancing for allies and surviving unexpected combat, there is no better weapon for her than Water Breath+ which grants her +4/+4 Def/Res almost permanently as she should practically never initiate combat.
Dance
The reason why a build like this is allowed to exist; it does not matter that Ninian's Atk is dreadful since dance allows her to be useful without even engaging in battles herself.
Miracle
Some disagree with the use of Miracle since it is a 5 charge special and I would definitely have agreed with them back when the game launched as there was no extended combat back then. However, Fire Emblem Heroes now features survival maps, Tempest Trials, Chain Challenges, Grand Conquests, Rival Domains, Special Training Maps, and more. Miracle is extremely useful in these game modes and will surely save Ninian from death a few times.
Fortress Def 3 + Fortress Res 3
Perhaps my favourite aspect of this build, Fortress Def 3 and Fortress Res 3 almost seem like they were made for Ninian. With the exception of a couple of healers, it seems that no units really wants to use the Fortress skills. It is truly fortunate that they have such compatibility with Ninian, a unit which places no value on the Atk stat.
Wings of Mercy 3
I personally see this skill as a necessity on dancers, especially if your team consists of any glass cannons. It has allowed me to sweep my way out of several seemingly unsolvable situations.
Fortify Dragons
Fortify Dragons 3 makes a lot of sense on Ninian so long as she is on a team with other Dragons. You may also give her Ward Dragons. As usual, the C skill slot remains the most flexible.
With this build, Ninian hits 36/36 Def/Res on enemy phase (42/42 with Fortify Dragons) which is astounding for an unmerged dancer. 36 is currently the highest neutral Res in the game and the 11th highest neutral Def in the game. She can dance allies and really take a few hits without worry at the same time (with the exception of her hard counters Julia and Deirdre).
