The first set allows Ninian to avoid follow-up attacks from +Spd Marth and Lucina as well as neutral Linde. -Atk assumes that Ninian will never be entering direct combat, though -Res makes her slightly more viable. -Def leaves Ninian more vulnerable to KOs from Marth and Lucina.

Skill Sets
Wings of Mercy Dancer

Wings of Mercy is preferred over Escape Route on Ninian as it does not require Ninian to enter direct combat, where she is less than stellar compared to other units. Triangle Adept can help her matchups against Falchion users and other reds, as her decent speed allows her to avoid follow-up attacks. Moonbow gives her a much needed damage boost.

Debuff Dancer

This set takes a more combat-oriented approach to Ninian by having her inherit Dark Breath+. This breath attack debuffs the attack and speed of enemies nearby Ninian's target, allowing her to setup several KOs for her teammates. With Dark Breath+, Seal Res and Threaten Def, Ninian can inflict -5 to Atk/Spd/Def and -7 to Res spread across enemy units when initiating combat. This effectively cripples the enemy team for the next turn, allowing Ninian's teammates to sweep through the weakened units. Fury ensures that Ninian will survive the round of combat by boosting her speed and defensive stats. Moonbow can allow Ninian to secure a KO, but this can be swapped out for a more defensive special skill like Escutcheon, depending on player preference. Seal Res and Threaten Def are also interchangeable with Seal Def and Threaten Res respectively.

Introduction

Pros:

  • Dance is incredibly powerful
  • Great HP
  • Flexible addition to many teams
  • Escape Route grants fantastic coverage

Cons:

  • Low BST
  • Vulnerable to Falchion/Naga
  • Weak in direct combat

Ninian is a dancer with surprisingly good bulk when compared to similar units such as Azura and Olivia. Her respectable speed stat alongside a great HP stat allows her to avoid crucial follow-up attacks against Lucina and Marth, surviving on very little HP. Escape Route synergises very well with Dance, as it allows Ninian to grant an ally an extra turn from anywhere on the map. Her dragon typing does give her a weakness to common units however, all of whom will KO Ninian if she has already taken even a small amount of damage. Her low BST will also impact arena scores.

Strengths/Weaknesses

Ninian's great bulk makes her one of the easier dancers to use. Her speed is just high enough to prevent follow-up attacks from common infantry, whereas her high HP means she will take hits better than Azura and Olivia if she does find herself in combat. Dance is quite straight-forward: it allows one of your units to act again, making it useful to a wide range of allied units. Dance helps high-damage carries like Linde KO more enemy units, it allows units with strong special skills such as Lyn or Eldigan to charge them more quickly, or it can be used to get armoured units like Hector or Effie to reach the fight more quickly. This makes Ninian useful on a variety of different teams, especially with her additional support bonuses through Fortify Def and Light Breath+. Ninian also has a few noteworthy niches: she is currently the only dancer to deal magical damage, as well as the only unit with a dragon-buffing passive skill in Fortify Dragons.

Unfortunately, Ninian's dragon typing does more harm than help. Though she can survive KOs from Falchion wielders like Lucina and Marth with most IV spreads, Julia will always OHKO Ninian due to the bonus damage versus dragons. In addition, her poor attack stat means that Ninian will do very little in direct combat if she is attacked.

Team Options

Ninian can perform well on a range of different teams with varying playstyles. However, it is recommended to include Ninian onto a team with a specific partner in mind. This will often be a high-damage carry such as Lucina, Linde or Nino, though bulkier units as well as wallbreakers can be just as effective. The important thing is that Ninian always has at least one ally to dance for at all times, otherwise it is difficult to justify her inclusion over a different unit.

Counters

Falchion wielders Lucina, Marth and Chrom can deal heavy damage to Ninian, but will not OHKO unless Ninian has a poor IV spread. Julia will always OHKO Ninian, though other powerful green units such as Hector, Camilla and Nino, with boosts, can also KO Ninian.
