IV Sets

Key stats worth increasing through nature if possible.
Complementary stats that matter, but not to the point of picking them over key stats for nature increase.
Relatively worthless stat that can safely be decreased through nature.

  • +SPD: A Speed boon is ideal to build upon her already impressive base Speed stat of 37 and enhance her offensive presence by further securing her ability to perform follow-up attacks on opposing units.
  • +ATK: Alternatively, an Attack boon can be taken to bump her up to a fantastic 35/37 offensive spread and increase her raw damage output.
  • +RES: In addition to granting her an easier time in using Ploys, a Resistance boon can be considered should one wish to take on a more defensive approach and strengthen Nina’s capabilities as an anti-mage unit.

  • HP: It is recommended to leave Nina’s HP at neutral in order to preserve her magical bulk, though it can be a suitable bane should no other option be available.

  • -DEF: Nina’s preferred choice of bane, as her pitiful base Defense stat of 16 means that lowering her Defense further has little effect on her overall performance despite its status as a superbane (-4 to the stat as opposed to the typical 3).

Firesweep Bow+ A Atk/Spd Solo 3
Alternate: Life and Death 3
Draw Back B Chill Spd 3
Alternate: Spd/Res Link 3
Moonbow C Odd Atk Wave 3
SP1730SFlashing Blade 3

Show Explanation/Analysis
  • Preferred IV: +SPD or +ATK / -DEF or -HP
  • Weapon: Firesweep Bow+
  • Assist: Draw Back / Flexible
  • Special: Moonbow / Luna / Iceberg
  • Passive A: Atk/Spd Solo / Swift Sparrow / Life and Death / Fury
  • Passive B: Chill Spd / Spd/Res Link / Swordbreaker
  • Passive C: Odd Atk Wave / Even Spd Wave / Def Ploy / Spd Ploy / Flexible
  • Sacred Seal: Flashing Blade / Speed +3 / Attack +3

Thanks to Nina’s good offensive spread, she can run the standard Firesweep set for archers exceedingly well -- she will, however, be extremely dependent on her ability to perform follow-up attacks for her damage output. Accordingly, a Speed boon is ideal to enhance his ability to double and heighten his offensive potential substantially, though an Attack boon can also be taken to increase her raw damage output.

Nina has several options for her Special, the most notable of which being her native Moonbow. When paired with the Flashing Blade seal, Moonbow will be able to activate in every single round of combat, provided that Nina performs a follow-up attack on her foe. However, if using any other seal, Luna will be a stronger option for her Special as they will both activate in every other engagement if assuming that Nina doubles in each combat. Alternatively, Iceberg scales well with Nina’s good base Resistance and can be taken for more consistent damage increase, adding 15 points of damage each time it activates.

For Nina’s A slot, Atk/Spd Solo is Nina's strongest choice that enables her to maximize her offensive potential without detracting from her overall bulk, only necessitating that she has no adjacent allies. Granting her a comparable offensive buff, Swift Sparrow is an excellent alternative if one doesn't have Atk/Spd Solo readily available. Life and Death is also a solid option and offers her a slightly stronger boost to her offenses than Swift Sparrow in exchange for a sharp cut to both of her defenses; nonetheless, although this cut to her defenses is negligible thanks to the Firesweep Bow’s negation of all counterattacks, it does disallow both the use of Ploys as well as Resistance-scaling Specials such as Iceberg. Lastly, Fury makes for a decent alternative that increases her overall bulk as well as her offensive stats, granting her the flexibility of potentially being able to take a single hit on the Enemy Phase.

Due to the Firesweep Bow’s effect, Nina can forego using Desperation altogether, leaving her B slot open to a variety of other potent options such as Chills, particularly Chill Spd. Fitting well with this build’s offensively oriented playstyle, Chill Spd allows Nina to shut down otherwise pesky speedsters as well as potentially provide team support in the form of a -7 debuff to the fastest foe on the opposing team. Her native Spd/Res Link may also be used to similarly enhance her ability to perform follow-up attacks, though activating the skill itself can take a bit of set-up to achieve. Swordbreaker is a good choice to ensure her follow-up attack against even the speediest of sword units.

Odd Atk Wave and Even Spd Wave are both powerful choices for her C slot skill to bolster her offensive potential substantially on odd and even numbered turns respectively, as well as let her be much more self-sufficient; however, they are not entirely a necessity for Nina to function properly and can be replicated through team support. At a reasonable base value of 31, Nina’s Resistance is quite good and allows her to be a reliable user of Ploys, with Def Ploy and Spd Ploy being the most beneficial to Nina’s overall performance. Lastly, should the Flashing Blade seal be unavailable, the Attack +3 and Speed +3 seals are good alternatives to increase one of her offensive stats.

A Atk/Res Solo 3
Alternate: Fury 3
Draw Back B Chill Spd 3
Alternate: Spd/Res Link 3
Iceberg C Atk Ploy 3
SP1380SDistant Def 3

Show Explanation/Analysis
  • Preferred IV: +SPD or +RES or +ATK / -DEF
  • Weapon: Slaying Bow+ (+Spd) / Guard Bow+ (+Res)
  • Assist: Draw Back / Flexible
  • Special: Iceberg
  • Passive A: Atk/Res Solo / Distant Def / Atk/Res Bond / Fury
  • Passive B: Chill Spd / Spd/Res Link / Cancel Affinity
  • Passive C: Atk Ploy / Def Ploy / Atk Smoke / Def Smoke / Flexible
  • Sacred Seal: Distant Def

This set aims to capitalize on Nina’s combination of high Speed and Resistance to turn her into a formidable anti-mage unit. A Speed boon is ideal to increase her overall survivability and mitigate the amount of damage she takes by denying her opponent’s follow-up attack; with added support to her Speed stat, Nina can prove to be a potent force not only in the Enemy Phase but in the Player Phase as well. Boons to her Resistance and Attack stats are also good options to strengthen her magical resilience and damage output respectively.

A Speed-refined Slaying Bow is Nina’s preferred choice of weapon, allowing her to increase her damage output substantially through more frequent Special activations while simultaneously increasing her overall survivability by reducing her chances of being doubled. Utilizing Slaying Bow also enables her to activate Iceberg in any combat where she can counterattack regardless of whether or not she is doubled, provided that she herself performs a follow-up attack. Alternatively, one can run a Resistance-refined Guard Bow, preferably paired with a Resistance boon, to focus more on her ability to tank magical hits.

As for her choice of main skills, Atk/Res Solo is a powerful A slot that grants her a considerable +6 boost to two of her most important stats so long as she does not have any adjacent allies. Keep in mind, however, that this skill does disallow the use of Spurs so depending on one’s playstyle, Distant Def or Atk/Res Bond may be more preferable choices. On a budget, Fury can be taken to grant her a solid overall stat boost, though its chip damage will cause Nina to be more picky with selecting her matchups to avoid her HP from becoming too low.

Nina’s Speed stat is high enough such that she is not particularly dependent on Quick Riposte to perform follow-up attacks, thus opening up her B slot to a variety of different options. In addition to allowing her to provide team support, Chill Spd’s debuff on the fastest unit on the opposing team will usually target the opponent whom Nina would otherwise have trouble doubling without Quick Riposte, thus providing her with an excellent amount of overall utility. Similarly, Nina’s native Spd/Res Link also lets her provide team support while simultaneously enhancing her own individual performance -- in comparison to Chill Spd, Spd/Res Link is much more consistent in that one can actually control who benefits from the buff, but it does come at the cost of wasting either Nina’s or an ally’s turn. Cancel Affinity is another potential skill to utilize in her B slot to let her deal with Triangle Adept + Raven tome mages.

For her C slot, Ploys are an excellent choice and can activate quite reliably thanks to her good base Resistance. Atk Ploy can help lessen the damage she takes from afflicted opponents while Def Ploy is the better choice should one wish to increase her own damage output instead. Smoke skills, such as Atk Smoke and Def Smoke, can also be considered to significantly improve her performance when baiting multiple opponents. Otherwise, any available C slot that best complements the rest of her team composition may be used. Lastly, the Distant Def seal is her preferred choice of a seal to enhance her magical resilience in the Enemy Phase.

Like Father, Like Daughter (Budget Offensive)

Shining Bow+ (+Spd) A Fury 3
Draw Back B Desperation 3
Alternate: Spd/Res Link 3
Moonbow C Spd Ploy 3
SP1160SSpeed +3

Show Explanation/Analysis
  • Preferred IV: +SPD or +ATK / -HP or -DEF
  • Weapon: Shining Bow+ (+Spd)
  • Assist: Draw Back /Flexible
  • Special: Moonbow / Iceberg
  • Passive A: Fury
  • Passive B: Desperation / Spd/Res Link
  • Passive C: Spd Ploy / Def Ploy / Flexible
  • Sacred Seal: Speed +3 / Attack +3

A budget-friendly set that allows Nina to possess a decent offensive presence with as minimal investment as possible. Her native Shining Bow’s effect, while rather unreliable, can still be quite potent under the correct circumstances, granting her a flat +7 damage per attack so long as her opponent’s Defense is 5 points higher than their Resistance. It is recommended to utilize a Speed refine alongside a Speed boon in order to maximize her offensive potential, however, an Attack boon can perform just as well with the proper support.

Her native Moonbow is a solid option for her Special and helps mitigate her somewhat mediocre damage output against opponents with high Defense stats. Iceberg is also a good option should consistent damage be preferred. As for her A slot, Fury is an effective and relatively cheap skill that grants Nina with a moderate boost to her offensive presence as well as her overall bulk; its chip damage also makes reaching Desperation’s HP threshold much safer. Desperation pairs well with this set’s offensive playstyle and allows her to perform follow-up attacks in succession when under its HP threshold. Alternatively, Nina’s native Spd/Res Link can be taken as her chosen B slot skill to potentially provide team support.

Nina’s C slot is flexible and is open to any skill that best suits her team’s needs, though Ploy skills such as Spd Ploy and Def Ploy are particularly effective options to elevate both her and her team’s overall performance. The Speed +3 and Attack +3 seals both work excellently with this build to give one of her offensive stats a nice bump.

Commonly known to be one deluded by her own… special fantasies, Nina enters the fray as an infantry archer featuring the highest base Speed stat of all archers at the time of her release, tied only to Summer Gaius and Setsuna. At a base value of 32, Nina’s base Attack is solid and when combined with her impressive Speed, Nina proves her worth as an excellent source of damage output. Her Resistance is also pretty good and allows her to reliably use Ploys as well as confidently take on opposing mages. Thanks to these aforementioned characteristics, Nina’s role in any given team is surprisingly flexible as she’s able to run a number of various different builds quite well.

However, her physical bulk is extremely poor and although this can be circumvented through the use of the Firesweep Bow or skills such as Desperation, any scenario in which Nina will need to take a physical hit will likely end in her defeat should one have failed to take the necessary precautions. Additionally, her status as an infantry ranged unit severely hinders her potential in comparison to her mounted counterparts due to her lack of access to class-exclusive buffs and mobility. Nevertheless, with an overall solid and versatile stat line and the cute looks to back them up, Nina proves to be one of the stronger infantry archers around, requiring only proper investment to excel in her own right.

Good Offenses

Nina’s neutral offensive spread of 32/37 is relatively strong for a unit of her class-typing, enabling her to establish herself as a consistent and potent source of damage output on any given team, especially when capitalized on by giving her the proper support and investment.

Good Resistance

At a neutral base value of 31, Nina is a reliable user of Ploys which can be used to enhance her and her teammates’ performance. It can also be heightened further with a boon to transform her into a capable anti-mage.

Nina’s ability to run various different builds effectively -- a result of her access to various different weapons as well as her overall solid stat line -- allows her role in any given team to be rather flexible.

Low Physical Bulk

Her neutral physical bulk of 51 renders her extremely weak to any form of physical damage, as well as dragons who will always target her low Defense stat.

In comparison to her mounted counterparts, Nina’s potential is rather limited as her status as an infantry unit disallows her access to class-exclusive buffs and superior mobility.

Team Options

  • Refreshers: Regardless of the set she is running, Nina’s overall performance sees great improvement when provided with refresher support from units such as Olivia (YT), Bridal Ninian, and Performing Shigure.
  • Buffers: Buffers such as Ephraim, Odin, and Marth can also similarly boost her performance by enhancing her already strong offensive stat spread.
  • High Defense Tanks: Due to her low physical bulk, Nina appreciates having allies who can take the brunt of opposing physical hits and keep her out of harm’s way. Some examples of units who can fulfill such a role include high Defense tanks such as Hector (LA), Lukas, and Zelgius.
  • Debuffers: Debuffers such as Katarina, Sothe, and Saias can improve Nina’s overall effectiveness as well by debilitating opposing foes, making them much easier to take down.
  • Falchions: Since dragons can take advantage of their Breath weapon’s adaptive damage and target Nina’s low Defense, Falchion users like Exalted Chrom, Lucina, and Alm are welcome allies to relieve Nina of the worry of having to deal with such foes.

  • Raven Tomes: Users of the common Triangle Adept + Raven tome combination like Lyon, Robin (M), and Cecilia are specifically catered to take down colorless units, with Nina being no exception despite her good base Resistance stat.
  • Dragonstone Users: With the advent of weapon refinery, dragonstone users gained the unique ability to deal adaptive damage to ranged foes -- this ability allows such units to take advantage of Nina’s extremely lopsided defensive spread and promptly take her down. Some examples include Fallen Robin (M), Summer Tiki (Young), and Nowi.
  • Strong Physical Hitters: By the same token, strong physical hitters like Cherche, Elincia, and Effie who naturally target her low Defense can also take down the young archer quickly.
