Boon
-
+ATK: Coming with an incredibly high base Attack of 36, choosing an Attack boon further pushes Mae’s offensive power.
-
+SPD: Although her Speed is middling, choosing a Speed boon and stacking Speed boosting skills can push Mae’s Speed into the 40s, giving her strong doubling potential.
Neutral
-
HP: Mae’s HP is on the lower end of mages. While preserving her HP will help with her physical and magical bulk, a HP bane is a perfectly acceptable option and won’t hinder her combat capabilities greatly.
-
RES: Mae has good Resistance for a offense oriented mage. Preserving her Resistance is advised to maintain her magical bulk and Ploy usability. A Resistance boon might even be a good option for anyone who wants her to consistently activate Ploy skills.
Bane
- -DEF: Mae’s Defense is very poor, even by mage standards. Her Defense is her most disposable stat and makes for her best general choice of bane.

Thanks to her high Attack, Mae can deal immense damage when armed with a Blade tome.
Blárblade is a powerful weapon that boosts damage by the total value of bonuses received from stat bonuses . Alongside teammates who can provide Mae with a lot of boosts, she has massive damage potential with this tome. Having either an Attack or Speed boon will help to increase Mae’s offensive potential, whether that be through her raw damage output or her doubling potential. Defense is the least important stat for her, making it the optimal bane. For Assist, Ardent Sacrifice allows Mae to give 10 HP to a teammate at the cost of 10 HP herself. This allows Mae to instantly go below the HP threshold for Desperation without having to see a single round of combat. Outside of this, her default Draw Back is a solid movement Assist for mages. Glimmer is a great choice of Special that pairs well with a Blade tome. Not only does it have a low cooldown of two, Glimmer’s power is based off the damage dealt, it can provide a huge damage boost when Mae is fully buffed. Other options include Moonbow which also has a low cooldown of two and Iceberg which plays off of Mae’s good Resistance stat.
Atk/Spd Solo is a fantastic offensive A slot skill which provides a huge boost to Attack and Speed whenever Mae has no adjacent allies. A solid alternative is Swift Sparrow which provides a strong offensive boost whenever Mae initiates combat. A strong budget alternative to these two skills is Fury, which not only provides an all-around boost to stats but the damage taken after combat can help Mae with reaching the Desperation threshold. Desperation is the prime B slot choice, allowing Mae to make any follow-up attacks immediately should she be below 75% HP.
Odd Atk Wave, though expensive, allows Mae to boost her own Attack and any adjacent allies at the start of odd numbered turn. As this boost does affect the Blade tome and triggers regardless of if she has any allies nearby, this skill is a fantastic C slot for the Blade tome. For similar reasons, Even Spd Wave is also a fantastic option, buffing her Speed at the start of even numbered turns. Spd Ploy is another solid option, allowing Mae to debuff the Speed of opponents and in turn increasing her doubling potential. Out of this, her C slot is very open to Player Preference. Skills such as Hone Atk are generally safe choices, but one should consider what C slot skill would benefit their team the most. For her Sacred Seal, using either an Attack or Speed boost will help push Mae’s offensive power even further.

With cavalry being very prominent within lower Arena tiers and Aether Raids, having a unit who can deal with them very easily is a worthwhile investment. To this extent, Mae can serve as a incredibly potent anti-cavalry unit.
The weapon which allows for this is the Keen Blárwolf. This tome grants effective damage against cavalry units can also be refined to either ignore all boosts on enemy cavaliers or for a simple stat refine. Using the boost ignoring refine is recommended to allow Mae to still effectively deal with opponents boosted by skills such as Fortify Cavalry. An Attack boon is recommended to increase Mae’s damage output, though a Speed boon is also a strong option. Defense makes for the most disposable stat and in turn her best bane. The Assist slot is completely open to whatever one wants. Mae comes with Draw Back by default, making it a cheap and effective option. Glimmer makes for a fantastic Special thanks to its low cooldown and Mae’s high damage output. Moonbow is another strong option thanks to being low cooldown like Glimmer, while also helping Mae against high Resistance foes.
With Fury, Mae gets a solid boost to her stats in all areas, helping her in all rounds of combat. Swordbreaker imperatively allows her to deal with Sigurd who can survive an attack from Mae should she fail to double attack. Not only this, but Swordbreaker Mae can also deal with other common sword threats such as Legendary Ike and Zelgius.
Her C skill and Sacred Seal slot are used to allow Mae to counter two common cavalry threats on Enemy Phase: Brave Lyn and Reinhardt. Normally, Brave Lyn could OHKO Mae, but a Mae with Atk Ploy can debuff her and prevent her from defeating her in a single hit, allowing Mae to KO on retaliate. Unfortunately, Brave Bow and Firesweep Bow will still be an issue, but a Lyn with Mulagir can be prevented from obtaining the KO. Running Deflect Magic in the Sacred Seal slot will allow Mae to resist the common Quickened Pulse Moonbow combo that Reinhardt can be frequently seen using.
As alternatives, Res Ploy can help Mae to increase her damage output against anyone affected. If one does not want to run a Ploy skill, the C slot is open to player preference. Taking a simple Attack boost in the Sacred Seal slot is also a good alternative to help increase Mae’s damage output even further.
Introduction
Mae is a infantry blue mage who’s heavy on Attack but light on Defense.
With one of the highest Attack stats found on mages, Mae is certainly no slouch in dishing out a lot of damage in a single Attack. Not only does she possess this great Attack, but she was has good Resistance too, allowing her to be rather effective at resisting magical attacks.
Unfortunately, this is where her notable upsides end. While Mae can certainly hurt, her middling Speed can make it tricky for her to perform follow-up attacks which hampers her offensive potential. She also possesses very low Defense and low HP, making her very susceptible to physical attacks.
All in all, even with her drawbacks, Mae is still a potent option for an Infantry blue mage. Not only does she hit ridiculously hard, she can also be pulled from the three star pool, making obtaining copies of her for different IVs and merging purposes considerably easier than other blue mages.
Strengths
Amazing Attack
Mae has the second highest base Attack for all mages at 36, tying with units such as Lute, Delthea, and Bridal Sanaki. With this, she can deal an immense amount of damage in a single attack, particularly when armed with a weapon such as a Wolf tome or a Blade tome.
Good Resistance
At 30 base Resistance, Mae is fairly good at resisting magical attacks. Not only does her Resistance help her against magical foes, but also makes her a good candidate for Ploy skills.
Weaknesses
Poor physical Defense
With a HP stat of 35 and a Defense stat of 16, Mae is very frail on the physical side with an overall physical bulk of 51. Due to her low physical bulk, Mae should take caution when fighting anyone with Distant Counter, particularly green DC users who will make quick work of Mae on their retaliation.
Average Speed
With a Speed stat of 31, Mae finds herself in an awkward position. She’s not fast enough to avoid doubles from high Speed units such as Ayra, but also not fast enough to consistently double lower Speed units such as Hardin and Legendary Ephraim. This has a notable impact on her offensive potential as she relies on heavy Speed boosts or breaker skills in order to obtain consistent double attacks.
Team Options
Counters
-
Distant Counter units: Given Mae’s low physical bulk, attacking any user of Distant Counter can be a tricky task. Even some sword Distant Counter units can be a bit of a problem, though she will fare better than she would against lance and axe Distant Counter users. Mae should avoid attacking units such as Fjorm, Hardin, LA Hector, and Dorcas wherever possible.
-
Powerful physical attackers: With her low physical bulk and middling Speed, any unit general seen in an highly offensive role will be able to deal with Mae. This includes high Speed units such as Ayra, Shigure, Raven, and Brave Lyn, and units commonly seen with Brave weapons, such as Alm, Elincia, Cherche, Bridal Cordelia, and Halloween Jakob.
- Dragons with refined breaths: Thanks to the weapon refinery, any dragon with a refined Breath will be able to target the lower defensive stat of ranged units. This means Mae cannot rely on her high Resistance to safely attack dragons which makes them tricky targets for her. Of notable issue will be the green dragons such as Fallen Robin, Myrrh, and Female Kana, though blue dragons such as Nowi and Female Corrin will also pose a considerable threat.

this build focuses on dueling. On the player phase she rarely can be doubled if she is alone thanks to "Darting Blow" and on the enemy phase she can tank reds no problem thanks to her immense RES and duel B.Tome users thanks to "B.Tomebreaker". But if you utilized her weapon "Blarowl+" she can be dangerous!

With this build, Mae can be your destructive force for handling units such as Ike or any other imposing sword units.

I personally use Hone Atk just due to the fact it supports my already high damage dealing teammates.

To be entirely honest this is what i did when i got a Mae with the non-optimal iv's. However, I liked Mae, so after S-Ranking with her, then having her S-Rank with my healer, It was time to strike. In the arena, there is an abundance of filthy Lyn's, so bowbreaker is put in place. This is highly likely to kill the Lyn. If not, its probably like a Lyn +10. Im a filthy free-to-play so I wont see those. She is basically a magical wall, and with Glacies she can do some insane damage with team buffs and having an S-Rank partner next to her. She does great in my arena runs, so it probably works. Paired with a typical Eirika supports buffs and being surrounded by her team, she gets +11 to atk, def, res, and a +12 in speed. So thats some nice buffing there. Really op play this in ranked. Also try running res ploy.

A blade tome sweeping build is more manageable on her now with a +3 speed seal, which places her at 40 speed that's high enough to double most of the cast. Fury 3 over Life and Death due to her very frail state in terms of physical tolerance but Fury 3 increases her good res stat which is good for Ploy skills.
