IV Sets

Key stats worth increasing through nature if possible.
Complementary stats that matter, but not to the point of picking them over key stats for nature increase.
Relatively worthless stat that can safely be decreased through nature.

  • +ATK: As an offensive unit that doesn’t necessarily need to rely on her Speed to obtain follow-ups, Lyn will most enjoy an Asset in Attack. Her neutral Attack is quite lackluster and she will greatly enjoy the boost in offensive power no matter the set.

  • SPD: Lyn’s Speed is weird, because no matter whether she has a Speed Asset, Speed Flaw, or neutral Speed, she can make it work. On one hand, Lyn can benefit from a Speed Asset through increased ability to secure follow-up attacks when Sol Katti does not activate and to increase usability of Flashing Blade. On the other hand, Lyn can instead take a Speed Flaw and rely on Sol Katti to obtain follow-up attacks so she can keep her defensive stats in-check. Overall, keeping Speed neutral is recommended, but a Speed Asset or Speed Flaw can also perform just fine.

  • DEF: Lyn has fairly average Defense for an offensive sword unit. A Defense Asset is actually a very real option, with her superasset taking her up to 30 Defense, thus making her deceptively bulky thanks to her high Speed. She can use this extra Defense to her advantage to help ease her into the below 75% HP threshold or to even run a mixed phase set. Attack remains the more beneficial option however, so it is recommended to keep Defense neutral if possible. Still, don’t be afraid to try out a Defense Asset Lyn.

  • -HP: HP is an overall great Flaw choice for Lyn and is arguably her best Flaw option. Her HP is pretty low to begin with and taking it as a Flaw allows her to maintain her good Resistance in case one wants to use a Ploy skill on her. Just be aware that her overall bulk will suffer as a result.

  • -RES: Resistance is another great Flaw choice. While Lyn does have fairly good Resistance, she won’t have her Resistance targeted as often as her Defense. Do note that taking a Resistance Flaw will greatly hinder her ability to use Ploy skills if that is what one desires.

Lyn’s flagship set capitalizes on her offensive capabilities and pushes them to the max. While she will need to take some damage, once she gets there, she will be an extremely competent attacker.

The main draw of this set is the immense synergy between Sol Katti, Brazen Atk/Spd, and Wrath. Sol Katti grants both Desperation and Brash Assault when under 75% HP, allowing her to gain a guaranteed follow-up against anyone who can counter and perform that follow-up immediately after her first attack. On top of this, Wrath grants increased damage from Lyn’s Special as well as a free point of Special charge at the start of each turn when under 75% HP, fitting in perfectly with Sol Katti. Finally, Brazen Atk/Spd grants Lyn with a massive Attack and Speed boost when below 80% HP, once again making it a perfect fit with Sol Katti and Wrath. Once Lyn gets to 75% HP, she can unleash all of these skills at once and show off her true potential.

Lyn will ideally want an Attack Asset with a HP Flaw. Attack will greatly help Lyn’s offensive capabilities while reducing HP means she can maintain her Resistance for use of Ploys. A Speed Asset can also be a great choice to help activate Flashing Blade and secure follow-ups when Sol Katti doesn’t activate. A Resistance Flaw can also work if one doesn’t want to use Ploy skills. The Assist slot is a mostly open slot. Reposition makes for a safe choice for most infantry, but one might also consider Ardent Sacrifice as a single use of it will put Lyn into the range of all the above mentioned skills so long as she is at 40 HP or below. The Special should be either Luna or Moonbow depending on what Sacred Seal she takes. If Lyn is using Flashing Blade, Luna is the optimal choice, otherwise she should take Moonbow.

There are alternative options for Lyn’s A slot and B slot available. In the A slot, Sturdy Impact is an expensive but very effective choice, granting a large Attack and massive Defense boost and preventing the opponent from performing a follow-up when initiating. The Attack boost will greatly help Lyn’s offensive power while the Defense boost and prevention of enemy follow-up will allow her to attack with more safety. Death Blow is another great option, granting Lyn with a large Attack boost when initiating combat. Fury is the most budget option but is a powerful one nevertheless, granting Lyn will an all-around stat bonus and the recoil damage potentially helping Lyn to reach her desired HP thresholds with greater ease. In the B slot, Special Spiral is another powerful option, granting Lyn with two points of Special charge after any round of combat where she activates her Special either before or during combat. This allows her to use Luna to great effect without having to use Flashing Blade.

In the C slot, Lyn can make use of a Ploy skill in order to debuff the opponent. Spd Ploy will prove very useful as it’ll make it easier for Lyn to activate Flashing Blade against any affected opponent. Spd Smoke could also be used to provide a Speed debuff to any enemies near to her target after combat. As a cheaper budget option, Threaten Spd is a great choice. Flashing Blade as her Sacred Seal allows Lyn to consistently activate Luna with Wrath’s assistance, making it a fantastic choice. Outside of this, a Ploy skill or even a simple Attack Seal will make for great options.

Fresh From The Plains (Budget Mixed Phase)

Sol Katti (+Def) A Brazen Atk/Def 3
Alternate: Fury 3
Reposition B Swordbreaker 3
Alternate: Vantage 3
Alternate: Glimmer
C Atk Smoke 3
Alternate: Def Ploy 3
SP2145SAttack/Def +2
Alternate: Close Def 3

Show Explanation/Analysis
  • Preferred IV: +ATK or +DEF / -RES or -HP

  • Weapon: Sol Katti (+Eff) / Sol Katti (+Def)

  • Assist: Reposition / Player Preference

  • Special: Moonbow / Glimmer

  • Passive A: Brazen Atk/Def / Fury

  • Passive B: Swordbreaker / Vantage

  • Passive C: Atk Smoke / Def Ploy

  • Sacred Seal: Attack/Def +2 / Close Def / Atk/Spd 2

This is a much cheaper set compared to the full offensive set above, but still a strong set. This set aims to make Lyn into an all-around effective fighter that can perform well on both phases.

Lyn can perform well with either an Attack or Defense Asset, with Attack helping with her offensive capabilities and Defense helping her defensively. Either works, but Attack remains the most desirable. Either Resistance or HP should be used as the Flaw. Resistance is the better option overall unless one wants Lyn to run Ploy skills, in which case HP is a better choice. Sol Katti refined for its refine grants Lyn great offensive power, but one could also go for a Defense refine in order to increase Lyn’s enemy phase capabilities if they don’t mind sacrificing Brash Assault. The Assist slot is open to player preference. Reposition is a safe general choice for an Assist, but this can be swapped out for one’s own preference. For Special, Moonbow or Glimmer both make for great choices thanks to their low charge timer, allowing Lyn to activate them with good consistency.

In the A slot, Brazen Atk/Def makes for a solid choice that grants Lyn with a large Attack and Defense boost when below 80% HP. For an even cheaper option, Fury grants an all-around stat boost and the recoil damage can also help Lyn to reach the threshold for Sol Katti. Swordbreaker makes for an effective B slot choice, helping her to more effectively duel fast sword users such as Karla and Legendary Marth on enemy phase. Vantage is another good choice, potentially allowing Lyn to save herself from defeat by making her attack first when she’s initiated on, though this is not something that can be 100% relied on.

Atk Smoke makes for a great C slot choice, helping her to stay safe on Enemy Phase thanks to debuffing the Attack of any opponents around her target. A Ploy skill such as Def Ploy also makes for a great choice as long as Lyn doesn’t have a Resistance Flaw. For the Sacred Seal, the simple Attack/Def +2 Seal gives Lyn a small but nice boost to her Attack and Defense. Close Def is also a good choice, helping her defensively on Enemy Phase. Atk/Spd 2 also works for a nice offensive boost.

From the plains of Sacae comes Lyn, one of the original launch characters in Fire Emblem Heroes. Despite having some very noteworthy drawbacks, Lyn can still hold her own thanks to her refined weapon.

Thanks to the weapon refinery, Sol Katti was transformed from a pretty lackluster offensive sword into a powerful offensive choice. On top of this, Lyn herself does come with great Speed and can be deceptively decent defensively too. However, this does not take away from Lyn’s main drawbacks: Her Attack stat and her reliance on HP thresholds.

All in all, Lyn is an effective offensive sword fighter. Unfortunately, she still pales in comparison to newer and shinier sword infantry options which does make it hard to justify using her over other available options, even some which are more common than herself such as Soleil. Still, when built right, Lyn is capable of holding her own and she’ll serve you well.

Sol Katti

Lyn’s main selling point is Sol Katti, her personal weapon. Before refinement, this sword simply granted Desperation 2, making it an overall underwhelming personal weapon. After refinement, however, things get a lot better. Not only does the refined Sol Katti get Desperation 3, but it also gets Brash Assault at a 75% HP threshold, a much more acceptable threshold than the regular Brash Assault skill. While this is a fairly simple effect, its power is easily notable and makes Lyn a much stronger offensive fighter.

Good All-Around Stats

Lyn’s main standout stat is her Speed. At a value of 37, Lyn is very fast and can avoid follow-up attacks with good success. While she doesn’t need to rely on Speed as much to obtain follow-up attacks thanks to Sol Katti, it will help her whenever Sol Katti does not activate, such as above the HP threshold or against an opponent that can’t counter. While defensive capabilities are far from her main draw, Lyn can be decently defensive thanks to her acceptable 26 Defense and 29 Resistance. She is far from a defensive fighter at heart, but she can defend herself from an Attack if necessary.

Poor Attack

One of Lyn’s biggest weaknesses is her Attack stat. At 28 Attack, Lyn really struggles to deal a lot of damage, particularly against many tankier opponents. This is why an Attack Asset and focusing on increasing her Attack as much as possible is recommended. Even with Attack boosts, she’ll still be somewhat reliant on her Special to deal significant damage.

Reliant on HP thresholds

Lyn’s other big drawback is how much her power is reliant on HP thresholds. In order to activate Sol Katti and Wrath, she needs to get to below 75% HP. Brazen skills, some of her best A slot options, also require being below 80% HP. While Lyn is powerful once she gets to these thresholds, she suffers from very poor performance before these thresholds are achieved.
