Luke actually comes with a fantastic kit right out of the box, being perfectly functional and only requiring minimal skill inheritance to have a full build.
Death Blow is better than Fire Boost both because of its reliability due to not being tied to HP, as well as Luke having a very weak Enemy Phase due to Brave Sword.
Drag Back allows Luke to be safer when engaging, as he can retreat afterwards. Swordbreaker is an option that allows him to secure more kills against bulky swords, but also brings additional risk on Enemy Phase, as Luke’s abysmal speed with Brave Sword leaves him vulnerable to being doubled and getting killed. This can be offset with repositioning assist or dance support.

- C Slot: Panic Ploy, Hone Cavalry
- Seal: Close Def, Speed+3, Attack+3
A generalist set for Luke, this build functions best within a team of horses that can provide Hone Cavalry and Fortify Cavalry buffs.
This build stacks multiple sources of speed to bring Luke’s speed up to an acceptable 37 (40 with seal), enough to avoid most doubles; in fact, with the seal, Luke’s speed will be high enough to double a lot of units instead. A Hone Cavalry buff will make Luke even stronger.
Quick Riposte is best for general coverage, though once Luke’s buffed speed reaches around 40 and higher, you can instead consider other options, such as Swordbreaker and Renewal. Swordbreaker improves Luke’s matchups versus other sword units, particularly the speed demons like Mia and Ayra. Renewal is a good option if Luke’s speed is a non issue, as it helps offset the Fury recoil and allows him to handle multiple fights.
Close Def seal is excellent for allowing Luke to be a stronger tank, but both Speed+3 and Attack+3 will make him a stronger combatant in general.

A Distant Counter set for Luke. Despite his subpar resistance, Luke still has enough magical bulk (66) to survive a single hit from most green mages, and kill them on the counter. This build basically requires horse buff support in the form of Fortify Cavalry and Hone Cavalry to reach its full potential.
Slaying Edge/Ignis is chosen over Wo Dao/Bonfire due to being marginally better once a Fortify Cavalry buff is applied. However, it is only a marginal increase, and Wo Dao/Bonfire can still be used to equal effect.
This build is rather similar to what Xander would normally run, and functions in a very similar function, trading Xander’s incredible Defense stat for Luke’s excellent Attack stat, after boon.
Introduction
Luke is a sword cavalry unit who sports one of the highest attack stats for his unit type, as well as solid defensive bulk. In addition, he comes with an excellent base kit that lets him utilize his stats to their strengths immediately, requiring very little actual investment to shine.
Luke also has good enough stats all around to be able to adequately perform a generalist role. While he is outshined in most areas by other units, even other sword cavalry units, he still has his own unique niche in that he pairs these acceptable stats with a high attack stat. His high attack stat offers him a strong player phase, particularly with the Brave Sword build, but focusing on his player phase prowess will result in a comparatively weaker enemy phase, where his lower-end speed becomes a liability.
Strengths
- Luke has a good base attack stat of 34, allowing him to both run a strong Brave Sword set and perform other roles nicely.
- With a physical bulk of 73, Luke has solid physical defense.
- Being a cavalry unit means Luke can benefit from buffs such as Hone Cavalry and Fortify Cavalry.
Weaknesses
- At a base 28, Luke’s speed stat is fairly awkward on its own, as it’s not high enough to be considered high, but not low enough to be safely dumped.
- 20 resistance means that Luke gets hit hard by magic and dragons.
- Due to being on a horse, Luke has a strong vulnerability to anti-horse weapons, none of which he has any reasonable means of handling (outside of sacrificing his A slot for Grani’s Shield, which is a big sacrifice to make)
Team Options
Counters
-
Most mages can handle Luke easily, particularly blue mages like Reinhardt and Linde who will completely destroy Luke.
-
Physically tanky blue units such as Lukas and Shiro will easily shut down Luke. Dragons like Nowi and Corrin shut down Luke even harder due to also dealing magical damage.
-
Strong offensive units can power through Luke’s defenses, particularly powerhouse blues like Cordelia and Effie.
-
As a horse unit, Luke is susceptible to anti-horse weapons. In particular, Wolf tomes will obliterate him due to his already low magical bulk, and Ridersbane stacks the effective damage on top of triangle advantage, leading to a very dead Luke.

(+HP/-Res) a somewhat budget build if you consider weapon transplants budget in any way(his native brave sword is usable here). The idea is to capitize on his good HP and Attack as well has his HP oriented base kit. This kit also has the advantage of not needing horse emblem to function. Pairing him with a tank like Nowi or a nuke like Nino to cover his weaknesses will help tremendously.

Got an +Atk -HP Luke, pretty good IV's although Fire Boost and Panic Ploy will be harder to proc. Luke is still quite impressive, reaching 51 Atk Brave build with Fire Boost. At first I thought he was just a pity breaker while summoning for Mia, but he's pretty good it turns out. Roderick, his partner, is good fodder to give Rally Def/Res and Drag Back.

Giving him +5 HP seal will put him at 48 HP, making it unnecessary to have an +HP boon but isn't a bad choice all around. This set takes advantage of his base kit which is already really good and requires little investment from skill inheritance. The only skills you need to give him his Renewal 3 and Reciprocal Aid, because of Fire Boost 3 requires him to have higher HP than his opponents and to have Panic Ploy 3 activate, this skill can help keep him healthy. Should he be too low on health, he can use Reciprocal Aid to borrow HP from a nearby ally.
