Lucius has good speed, though it is not enough to prevent Linde and Nino from following up.

For this reason, a +Speed boon is a necessity.

Despite yielding the lowest defense in the game, acquiring a bane in said stat will allow a -Atk Lucina or neutral Takumi to one-shot him.

A -Attack bane is thus the best option to keep the Takumi match-up in mind.

If one wishes to keep Lucius' potential as a pseudo-mage, -Resistance is the second best option because it won't affect battles against magical units too much. If anything, it causes him to have an unfavorable match-up against Julia.

However, with the addition of Wrathful Staff, +Speed / -Resistance is Lucius' most favorable IV set as it does not tamper too much with physical match-ups and allows him to double more units if possible.

Skill Sets
Searing Light (Pseudo-Mage)
Optimal
Assault A Attack +3
Rehabilitate B Wrathful Staff 3
Miracle C Hone Spd 3

SP Cost1,390

  • Preferred Nature: +Speed / -Resistance
  • Weapon: Assault / Panic / Gravity
  • Assist: Rehabilitate / Martyr / Recover
  • Special: Miracle / Flexible
  • A Slot: Attack +3
  • B Slot: Wrathful Staff
  • C Slot: Hone Speed / Flexible
  • Sacred Seal: Attack +1

The basic Colourless Mage set.

Assault, Panic and Gravity are chosen depending on the player's choice:

  • Assault is raw damage
  • Panic has 3 less Mt than Assault but can reverse buffs
  • Gravity has 4 less Mt than Assault but can be potentially overpowered with the right team composition.

Due to the lack of any defensive passives, extreme caution should be taken when utilizing your healer for anything but magical baiting.

SP Cost1,125

  • Preferred Nature: +Speed / -Attack

  • Assist: Rehabilitate
  • Special: Heavenly Light
  • A Slot: Speed +3
  • B Slot: Live to Serve 2 / Wings of Mercy
  • C Slot: Spur Speed / Varies on team
  • Sacred Seal: HP +3

A standard healing build with heals, self-sustain and a staff focused on peeling the enemy.

Slow A Speed +3
Physic B Swordbreaker 3
Imbue C Hone Spd 3

SP Cost1,355

  • Preferred Nature: +Speed / -Attack
  • Weapon: Slow
  • Assist: Physic
  • Special: Imbue
  • A Slot: Speed +3
  • B Slot: Swordbreaker / Breaker
  • C Slot: Hone Speed / Varies on team
  • Sacred Seal: HP +3

A healing set focused on absolute safety with Physic and Imbue.

Due to Physic's 2 range, it will be difficult to utilize buffs on the target being healed, though it is quite useful for ones waiting to strike, such as a Kagero waiting for an allied Ryoma to bait the enemy AI.

Breaker skills are used to negate extremely fast melee or bow units from guaranteeing Lucius' death.

Introduction

Pros:

  • Speedy Healer
  • Very good attack stat
  • Incredible at soaking magical attacks

Cons:

  • Terrible at soaking physical attacks

Lucius the Light is an infantry staff user with very high attack and resistance.

With a value of 35 resistance, Lucius has the second highest resistance in the game, tied with Jagen and Felicia.

This magical shield is backed up with a good amount of 37 HP and 30 Speed, allowing Lucius to effectively duke it out with mages and dragons.

He could even run a pseudo-mage build due to having the highest attack among healers along Elise and Lachesis.

Unfortunately, all of these benefits come with one very big downside: Lucius has the lowest defense in the game at 13.

Overall, Lucius has very good stats if ignoring his defense, and is an excellent healer to have on your team if physical units are kept very far from him.

Strengths/Weaknesses

Strengths:

  • Great magical bulk
    • At 37 HP and 35 Resistance, Lucius requires 72 magical attack to be dealt in one blow.
    • This number goes down to 54 for Dire Thunder or follow-up attacks.
  • Great attack
    • This allows him to effectively utilize Assault, granting him a potential 42 attack with neutral IVs.
    • Wrathful Staff will bring back Lucius' glory from his origins.
  • Good speed
    • Lucius will naturally prevent units such as Tharja and Marth from doubling him.

Weaknesses:

  • Atrocious defense
    • At 13 defense, Lucius requires an easily-achievable 50 attack to die in one hit.
    • This numbers goes even lower to 32 attack when taking Brave Weapons and follow-up attacks into play.
Team Options

Just like other healers, Lucius pairs well with units requiring high HP % for skills such as Wary Fighter or for preventing a unit from becoming dead weight.

Though Lucius in particular requires absolute safety from physical units, and can do well alongside high defense units such as Hector or Lukas.

Counters

If healers are meant to have low defense and high resistance, Lucius takes that to a whole new level, requiring a funeral if an archer so much as mentions Lucius in a conversation.
