Assets

  • +ATK: +ATK is easily Julia’s best Asset, without a shadow of a doubt. +ATK improves Julia’s ability to defeat opponents in a single hit. Furthermore, higher Attack improves her odds of benefitting from Virtuous Naga, which relies upon Julia’s Atk > foe’s Atk for a further +6 bonus to Attack and Resistance. Ensuring that Julia can benefit from this effect and keep her Attack as high as possible is essential.

Neutral

  • HP: With a 4-point Flaw in HP, Julia should avoid this stat as a Flaw whenever possible. As her Attack is much more crucial than bonus HP, this stat is best left neutral.
  • SPD: Julia’s Speed is not the most impressive: at base she sits at a mediocre 28. However, she has several tools to ensure her Speed can become much more potent, including an A slot for skills like Fury, and her B slot which debuffs the Speed of enemy heroes
  • RES: Julia has a fantastic Resistance stat, alongside powerful tools like Virtuous Naga and Light and Dark. This makes it an unimportant Asset, as Julia can perform adequately without the bonus stats. This can be a passable Flaw as Julia has so much Resistance to spare, but neutral is preferred.

Flaws

  • -DEF: Julia’s Defense isn’t particularly important, as ideally Julia will not face any melee heroes that she cannot defeat in a single hit. Therefore, -DEF is Julia's preferred Flaw.

Show Explanation/Analysis

Preferred IV: +ATK / -DEF

  • +ATK is Julia’s best Asset, as it improves her damage output considerably and allows her to benefit from Virtuous Naga against stronger opponents. -DEF is the preferred Flaw, as Julia will naturally avoid picking fights with physical heroes who can land a hit against her.

Weapon: Virtuous Naga

  • The Virtuous Naga turns Julia into a fearsome offensive unit, offering up to 9 points of bonus Attack and an additional 6 Resistance. This is coupled with her key feature: effective damage versus dragons allows her to defeat even the strongest of dragon heroes, making her a valuable counter to some of the more prominent heroes in the game.

Assist: Draw Back / Flexible

  • Draw Back is easily accessible and allows Julia to reposition herself and her teammates, but this Assist skill is flexible depending on the needs of Julia’s team.

Special: Draconic Aura / Dragon Fang / Iceberg / Glimmer

  • Draconic Aura offers a great damage bonus based on Julia’s Attack stat on a serviceable 3-turn cooldown. This is Julia’s most flexible Special, striking a nice balance between damage and charge time. Julia can expect to deal upwards of 20+ bonus damage thanks to her fantastic Attack, allowing her to punch through bulky opponents.
  • Dragon Fang is available in Julia’s base kit, and deals exceptional bonus damage thanks to her impressive Attack. However, the long cooldown makes it difficult to utilise this skill repeatedly during the same battle. Nevertheless, this Special ensures that Julia will KO almost any opponent.
  • Alternatively, Iceberg is a worthy consideration for those who can negate Julia’s Resistance Flaw and use other Resistance boosting skills like Mirror Impact and Atk/Res Oath.
  • Glimmer is valuable if Julia opts for Special Spiral, as this is the best 2-turn Special that Julia can immediately charge with this B skill.

Passive A: Fury / Mirror Impact

  • Virtuous Naga’s Attack requirement is calculated using visible stats, meaning Mirror Impact’s bonus 6 Attack is not considered. Fury 4 therefore offers a fantastic alternative, boosting all of Julia’s combat stats and providing a boost to Virtuous Naga’s Attack requirement.

Passive B: Light and Dark / Null C-Disrupt / Special Spiral

  • Light and Dark is Julia’s unique B skill, which offers a range of bonuses including a -2 debuff to all of her opponent’s combat stats, nullification of all enemy stat bonuses and the nullification of adaptive damage that targets Julia’s Defense instead of her Resistance. This skill alongside Virtuous Naga makes her a formidable answer to enemy dragons, and improves her general combat ability through debuffing enemy opponents.
  • Null C-Disrupt allows Julia to fight heroes who would otherwise nullify her counterattack, such as Dazzling Staff users. This is a much more specific use compared to the advantages of Light and Dark however.
  • For a more offensive approach similar to heroes like Ophelia and Lilina, Julia can perform well as a hyper-offensive mage thanks to her immense Attack stat. Special Spiral allows her to charge Glimmer immediately, allowing her to deal impressive bonus damage

Passive C: Atk/Res Oath

  • Atk/Res Oath is accessible in Julia’s base kit, and offers an easy to acquire bonus to two of her more important stats. Though an Attack Wave skill would offer slightly more Attack, the reliability of Oath and the extra Resistance makes it the superior choice.

Sacred Seal: Brazen Atk/Spd / Darting Blow / Brazen Atk/Res

  • Brazen Atk/Spd complements Fury incredibly well, and allows Julia to take on an impressive offensive role. Alongside Light and Dark Julia’s effective Speed sits at 35, with a -2 Speed debuff to her opponent. This allows her to avoid many more follow-up attacks while dealing her own follow-up attacks against slow opponents around the 30 Speed benchmark.
  • Darting Blow is another Speed-boosting option that has no HP threshold to worry about. However, this trade off results in less Speed and no Attack at all, making it difficult to recommend over Brazen Atk/Spd.
  • If Speed is not a concern, Brazen Atk/Res boosts Julia’s two key stats and can be easy to utilise thanks to Fury.

  • Alternatively, Iceberg is a worthy consideration for those who can negate Julia’s Resistance Flaw and use other Resistance boosting skills like Mirror Impact and Atk/Res Oath. Glimmer is more appealing with additional Resistance boosting skills like Atk/Res Bond which can be taken in the Seal slot.

Passive A: Close Counter

  • Close Counter allows Julia to defeat enemy dragon heroes on Enemy Phase, greatly improving her versatility. Without Close Counter, Julia is restricted to defeating these heroes on Player Phase.

Passive B: Light and Dark / Null C-Disrupt / Renewal

  • Though Light and Dark is less important as dragon heroes who attack Julia in melee do not have adaptive damage, this skill is still valuable in debuffing enemy heroes and nullifying their bonuses.
  • Null C-Disrupt allows Julia to fight heroes who would otherwise nullify her counterattack, such as Dazzling Staff users. This is a much more specific use compared to the advantages of Light and Dark however.
  • Renewal can be a useful defensive choice for keeping Julia healthy, and synergises well with her preferred Sacred Seal: Quick Riposte.

Sacred Seal: Quick Riposte / Atk/Res Bond / Atk/Spd Bond

  • Quick Riposte allows Julia to deal a follow-up attack when defending, greatly improving her KO potential on Enemy Phase. This allows her to take down any dragons that survive her first attack, as well as other heroes who cannot defeat her before her second attack.
  • Atk/Res Bond synergises nicely with Atk/Res Oath and offers a nice bonus to two major stats. Alternatively, Atk/Spd Bond is a great choice that can improve Julia’s middling Speed stat, though this is less of a concern with Quick Riposte.

Introduction

Legendary Julia makes her appearance as the game’s first alt character from Genealogy of the Holy War. With that said, her role is quite similar to her original appearance: Julia excels as an anti-dragon hero thanks to her impressive Attack power and effective damage against dragonkin. Julia wields impressive base stats and powerful unique skills, making her one of the best heroes in this role.

Virtuous Naga is Julia’s unique weapon, offering a passive +3 Attack, effective damage versus dragon heroes and a further +6 to Atk/Res if her visible Attack exceeds that of her opponent. This allows her tome to grant an effective 23 Attack over her base value, granting immense damage output. Alongside a 4-point Asset in Attack and buffs from teammates, it’s not difficult for Julia to reach an Attack stat around the low-70s.

Light and Dark is Julia’s other unique skill, which debuffs enemy heroes by -2 to all of their combat stats, nullifies bonuses to their stats and negates adaptive damage bonuses that dragons frequently wield. This naturally makes her a fantastic dragon counter, but the skill’s debuff and bonus neutralization makes her a formidable opponent against non-dragon heroes too.

Julia’s biggest weaknesses are her middling Speed and low Defense, which don’t allow for the strongest Enemy Phase performance against non-dragon heroes. Skills that affect all of her combat stats like Fury can mitigate her weaknesses, but Julia will still struggle against powerful heroes who target her Defense and can deal follow-up attacks.

“How strange... It feels so warm... It's almost as if I've known this book all my life...”

Julia, Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War

Strengths

Fantastic Base Attack

Julia’s greatest stat is without a doubt her Attack. The crusader boasts a base value of 43 with  an Attack Asset, and can reach tremendous strength if she can benefit from the effects of Virtuous Naga.

Great Resistance

Julia also wields an impressive Resistance stat, which can reach incredible heights after accounting for the effects of Virtuous Naga as well as Light and Dark

Virtuous Naga

Virtuous Naga offers near unrivalled sheer strength among tomes when it comes to raw Attack power. Effectiveness against dragon heroes, alongside the potential +6 Attack and Resistance makes Legendary Julia one of the best dragon counters in the game.

Light and Dark

Offering a -2 debuff to all combat stats, bonus neutralization and adaptive damage nullification, Light and Dark is a fantastic defensive skill that greatly improves Julia’s strength against non-dragons as well as dragon heroes. Though it comes at the cost of a competitive B slot, Light and Dark is a powerful tool at Julia’s disposal.

Weaknesses

Poor Defense

Julia’s base 19 Defense leaves her frail against physical attackers. Heroes who can deal a follow-up attack pose a massive threat and will almost certainly KO her. Julia should beware fighting these heroes, including archers and beasts.

Struggles against Non-Dragons

While Virtuous Naga’s effective damage versus dragon heroes makes her a powerful unit against these foes, Julia’s middling Speed and poor Defense means that she struggles against heroes who she fails to OHKO. This does not include all non-dragon heroes, as her fantastic Attack allows her to defeat heroes with low Resistance, but heroes who survive her attack will be very problematic.
