Laslow’s availability means it’s quite easy to pick a good IV for him. Thus, it is recommended to wait for a 3 or 4 star Laslow with good IVs before building him. In general, he will want to be built as a physical bruiser with good offensive power and decent tankiness.
Boons
-
+ATK: Laslow is blessed with a good base Attack, and a boon in this stat is never a bad idea for an unit struggling to find a place in the current metagame. It helps him in all of his builds, especially Brave Sword build .
-
+SPD: Laslow has a superboon in this stat and is certainly not a bad investment. Base 30 Speed helps him avoid a lot of crucial doubles from units with less than 34 base Speed , giving him increased survivability.
-
+DEF: Defense is another strong suit of Laslow, and while it is not particularly high, it is enough to grant him relevant physical bulk against meta threats, especially when combined with his HP. A boon will help him immensely against popular physical threats.
Neutral
-
HP: While it is not a stat that is particularly crucial to his performance, an HP bane will hurt his overall bulk against all types of enemies.
Banes
-
-RES: Laslow struggles against mages and dragons regardless of a boon or bane in Resistance. This is by far his weakest stat and has the least impact on his performance.

Sacred Seal: Distant Defense / Quick Riposte / Close Defense
Most bulky units can run the Slaying + Wrath combination to a successful degree, and Laslow is no exception. His high Attack, Defense, and HP along with easy availability make him a good candidate for a bulky damage dealer on a team.
As this build emphasizes killing upon retaliation, an Attack boon is preferred. With the bonus HP from a refined weapon , Laslow doesn’t need to focus on Resistance as he should have enough to survive at least one hit from most common red or green mages, and enough firepower to one shot them with his counterattack.
Slaying Edge is crucial, as without it, it would be extremely difficult for Laslow to activate his Special. Another way to bypass this is through skills like Steady Breath or the Quickened Pulse Seal, but doing so will sacrifice Distant Counter and will make him extremely susceptible to ranged units.
Glimmer is the best Special when used in conjunction with Slaying Edge, and with the boosted damage from Wrath, Laslow can instantly delete many units upon counterattack. Additionally, Laslow will always get his Special ready every turn after the initial engagement thanks to Wrath’s cooldown lowering effect. Bonfire can be chosen for more burst damage if Laslow decides to run Breath skills (Steady Breath / Warding Breath) or have teammates carrying Infantry Pulse to lower his cooldown.
An alternative to Wrath would be Quick Riposte, giving him a stronger Enemy Phase against physical threats provided he can live through enemies’ double attacks. Laslow can also hold the Quick Riposte Sacred Seal in conjunction with Wrath on his Passive B slot, but doing so will lower his potential bulk as he loses out on either Distant Defense or Close Defense.
Last but not least, Laslow has solid base HP, enough to activate Panic Ploy on most common mages or ranged attackers. Giving him Panic Ploy is a good way to improve his survivability and utility. Infantry Pulse is also a good choice if he is used in an infantry team with similarly nuke-focused build such as Sonya or other Slaying + Glimmer users. Otherwise, a team support skill like his default Hone Speed is good enough.

Sacred Seal: Attack +3
Equipping a Brave Sword allows Laslow to utilize his monstrous ATK without needing to rely on his SPD to double enemies. Combined with a +ATK nature and Death Blow 3, Laslow can become an offensive juggernaut on initiation, taking out enemies before they have any chance to retaliate .
Aside from Death Blow, Laslow can also run Sturdy Blow or Fire Boost. Fire Boost works during Enemy Phase , so pairing this skill with Swordbreaker can make him a strong defensive wall . Sturdy Blow is also for the Swordbreaker build, but allows Laslow to take less damage from retaliation when dueling other sword wielders like Zelgius or Ayra.
Laslow has surprisingly good Defense , making Bonfire a viable option for his damaging Special. Luna can be chosen to gives Laslow better power against heavily invested physical tanks like most armors unit.
For his B slot, Laslow's skills will mimic similar physically bulky swordsmen, choosing either Drag Back/Hit and Run or Swordbreaker. Drag Back/Hit and Run can help him escape from opponents that he doesn’t kill in one round, especially when paired with a dancer. For general combat, however, Swordbreaker is easily his best B slot to cover popular sword wielding meta threats.
Chill Def is another great option to soften enemies before Laslow can hit them, but comes with the downside of not being able to pick the target to debuff. Similarly, Def Smoke or Threaten Def are great tools to improve Laslow’s damage output. Do note that these debuffs will not stack, so only one of them should be picked.

Sacred Seal: Close Defense / Quick Riposte / Panic Ploy
A quintessential Arena Assault build, allowing Laslow to contribute by taking out specific axe-wielding threats. This build aims to give Laslow a specialized role with an overall low-investment cost.
Armorsmasher is easily the best choice for the higher arena score range where armor units are common. Zanbato is the reverse, excelling at handling strong cavalry units found at lower arena scoring ranges like Sigurd, Exalted Chrom, or Siegbert.
For his A slot, Triangle Adept ensures his victory against highly potent green units like Hector LA, Fallen Robin, or Winter Chrom. Fury or Steady Stance are good alternatives, giving him more dueling power against other units.
Swordbreaker / Axebreaker are for coverage purposes. Swordbreaker is extremely useful against most dedicated high arena scoring teams due to the prevalence of Zelgius and Ayra. Axebreaker, on the other hand, will ensure Laslow to always one round high damage axe armor with Bold Fighter.
Close Defense is the best seal for tanking purpose, but Laslow can also run Panic Ploy to check cavalry or flier teams that are reliant on buffs or Quick Riposte to improve his kill pressure.
Introduction
A commonly summoned unit from the summoning pool, Laslow suffers from being in an overly abundant class. Characterized by his good Attack, HP, and decent Defense, Laslow does not bring anything unique to differentiate himself out of an already bloated pool of units. Even with his good merging potential, it is hard for Laslow to compete against other free to play friendly units to build like Marth, Chrom, or Soleil in terms of performance and versatility. As such, he is often forgotten and sacrificed for skills.
That being said, Laslow is not a terrible unit. With the right investment, he can be a good utility unit for Arena Assault, and with a lot of investment he can actually hold his own as a strong Brave sword user. Additionally, he also has very good availability when picking boons and banes and finding extra copies for merging.
Strengths
Good Attack
Laslow has a surprisingly high base Attack at 35. While it is not on the same level of units like Soleil or Chrom, he can function well as a Brave Sword user and will do good damage in general.
Good physical bulk
Sporting a base 44 HP and 30 DEF, Laslow makes for a good bruiser unit. However, base 30 Defense might not be enough to handle offensive powerhouses like armored units with Bold Fighter.
Good availability
Being a common unit from the summoning pool, it is extremely easy to get a good IV set for Laslow, as well as raising his merge level compared to other units.
Weaknesses
Poor magical bulk
Base 22 Resistance is very poor for a unit without any way to mitigate magic attacks. Laslow will take massive damage from dragons, mages, and even healers as a result. When he is utilized as a mage check, it is recommended to patch this weakness through team buffs or Sacred Seals.
Poor base Speed
Laslow starts out with 26 base Speed, which is quite poor for both offensive and defensive purposes. Even with a superboon in this stat , this is still an easily exploitable weakness of him as many meta threats can reach incredible Speed tiers and double Laslow even with buffs.
Suffers from being in a bloated archetype
Laslow does not possess anything to separate him amongst sword wielders, which is currently the most common unit type. Having no legendary weapon nor unique skill is a big blow to his viability, as many of his peers can bring something more to the table.
Team Options
Counters
Laslow suffers tremendously against magic attacks due to his poor Resistance and Speed. Even with stat boosts, he will often struggle against magic-based tanks or damage dealers. Aside from that, since Laslow deals physical damage, he can be countered by physical tanks with enough bulkiness to shrug off his attacks.
-
High damage blue mages: Blue magic is a plague for Laslow, and he will find himself particularly vulnerable to these powerful blue mages, including Reinhardt, Delthea, Linde, Morgan (F) or Lute.
-
Blue dragons: Most blue dragons such as Nowi, Corrin (F) or Ninian can soak damage from Laslow thanks to weapon advantage and punish his poor Resistance with their magic-based retaliations.
-
Physically bulky blue units: Blue tanks with high Defense and Attack are typically trouble some for Laslow, as he lacks the firepower to gets past them and his Defense is not enough to make him impervious to their attacks.

This Laslow is a 5* +0, S supported with the summoner. I use him as my defense lead because he's my favorite character in all of FE, but also because he provides a false sense of security for all who choose to go against my team in the arena

Stats are including summoner support and Fury 3. He's merge 5*+4.
Functions as a buffer that gives blade tomes +14 in terms of buffs. Rather than killing his speed with a bane and brave weapon, this Laslow relies on powerful single hits and being able to tank a hit or two. When paired with a dancer, he can then target a squishy to regain his HP or deal powerful chip to other enemies and allow his blade buddy to clean up.
He'll take little to no damage from axe units regardless of if they double him or not, and with swordbreaker he trivializes those pesky speedy red swords that tend to be popular.

This build tries to save Laslow's Speed by emphasizing on it with various skills.
First of all I want to mention that this build only reaches its full potential when Laslow is merged to +10 and has a Summoner support. If you're not willing to put that much work into him, any Brave Build works better. This one focuses on making Laslow a solid all-rounder.
This would be his base stat line:
HP: 50; Atk: 61; Spd: 41; Def: 31; Res: 23
- +Spd/-HP or -Res is suggested since his HP even with bane are high enough and his Res is already very low to begin with and Spd is the thing we want to fix.
- Slaying Edge+ is the non-legendary sword with the second highest might in the game. Additionally, it grants a cooldown charge -1.
- Draconic Aura or alternatively, Dragon Fang further add to Laslow's immense Atk and have a devastating effect on many units.
- Rally Spd is up to preference, any Assist works, really.
- Life and Death 3 helps emphasize his Atk and Spd. Alternatively, Darting Blow can be used.
- Desperation usually activates after Laslow has killed his first enemy. From then on, it prevents him from taking further damage when initiating.
- Hone Atk 3 is up to preference, any C skill can be used, including Panic Ploy but excluding all other Ploy skills.

****Fully Merged 4*
Being a 3* 4* unit, Laslow is much more common than most other units in the game, which makes him a good candidate for merging.
Hp+ plays alongside his health boon and high base health, giving him over 50 health.
This benefits Laslow when he has a breaker skill because he can stay over half health longer than the average unit, and when his breaker skill works, his low speed doesn't matter and he can out tank his opponent, as the more turns there are for a fight, the more of an advantage Laslow has.
--- Swordbreaker is used here because Laslow is effective against Axes, making him not reliant on the Axebreaker he starts with.
In other words, Laslow gains more from Swordbreaker than he would gain from Axebreaker.
His health also benefits Panic Ploy since Laslow reaches a health stat higher than even some armored units have.
Panic Ploy allows him to reverse stat buffing teams, like Cavalry, Flier, and Armored teams, and make them much weaker. With Laslow's high health he can make use of Panic Ploy on average.
Killing Edge+ with Noontime gives Laslow a healing skill that procs almost every time he is in a fight, helping him maintain the health necessary to make use of any of the aforementioned skills.
--- The Slaying Edge+ is preferred, but not necessary due to Laslow's high strength.
And I don't have a Saber at the time of making this unit.
Finally, Saber in some cases could instead be used for his Shield Pulse, so I might not even inherit the Slaying Edge+ in the first place.
