Boon
-
+ATK: Is an excellent boon for Julia as she has a high base Attack, so increasing it further plays to her strengths. It also synergizes well with Naga/Divine Naga’s effective damage against dragons.
-
+SPD: Is a good boon as while Julia admittedly has poor base Speed, it can be boosted to serviceable levels thanks to her superboon (+4 to the stat). Julia doesn’t need to be incredibly fast, as her primary job is to handle enemy mages and dragons.
-
+RES: Is a decent boon, as it further increases Julia’s ability to handle mages. However, it is not as good as it used to be, due to dragons now being able to refine their breath weapons to target Julia’s lower Defense stat.
Bane
-
-DEF: Is a good bane for Julia, as she already has poor physical bulk. It also avoids damaging her excellent magical bulk.
- -SPD: Is an acceptable bane as it won’t affect her matchups against the speedy mages (which tend to be more common) or Reinhardt (who will always double anyway). Keep in mind that this does effectively lock Julia out of Watersweep builds.

This set aims to make the most of Julia’s strong magical bulk. The combination of Julia’s magical bulk, Divine Naga, and Ploys make Julia into a versatile and powerful unit.
One of the defining traits of Julia is her ability to wield Divine Naga, the refined version of her default Naga tome. Dealing effective damage is already potent on its own, as it allows Julia to be a very reliable check to dragons like Nowi and Female Corrin. However, the ability to negate all field buffs (such as hone/fortify) is incredible, as it allows her to completely negate the power of Blade tome mages as well as any other units that rely on buffs. Her default Naga is acceptable on a budget, particularly outside of Arena where buffs are much more rare. However, accumulating the Divine Dew needed to refine to Divine Naga is highly recommended.
Iceberg is the chosen special, as a 3 cooldown Special will allow Julia to always activate her Special whenever she is doubled and can counter, or otherwise be charged and ready to activate if she is not doubled.
Fury is the A slot of choice; while the Attack and Resistance boosts are excellent, the real reason it is the most recommended A slot is that it also boosts her Speed, which allows her to avoid more doubles (38 Speed is needed to double a +SPD IV Julia with Fury). If running a -SPD IV or otherwise not as concerned about getting doubled (if Julia is only fighting blue mages, for example, she doesn’t care about getting doubled), then Atk/Res Bond is a strong option that grants a greater boost to Attack and Resistance than Fury does. As an Enemy Phase oriented unit, Julia has no problems standing next to an ally to activate Atk/Res Bond. Finally, Distant Def will maximize Julia’s defenses, but is generally not quite as good as Atk/Res Bond due to Julia not making good use of the physical Defense portion.
Quick Riposte is important to run as while Julia can potentially increase her Speed enough to avoid a good number of doubles, she will still struggle to double enemies without it.
Spd Ploy makes very good use of Julia’s Resistance stat, as with Fury she can easily apply Ploy debuffs to any enemies with 34 Resistance or lower. Spd Ploy in particular allows her to effectively increase the threshold that enemies need to reach to double her from 38 to 43. However, as Spd Ploy is a difficult skill to obtain (and it’s sole user is already extremely similar to Julia), it can be replaced as needed to fit any team composition.
Atk Ploy and Distant Def seals both increase Julia’s bulk significantly. The difference is that Distant Def is more reliable, since it is guaranteed to be active when Julia is attacked from range (such as by mages). However, the advantages of Atk Ploy are that it can be effective even when Julia is initiating combat, is effective versus melee as well as ranged, and also benefits the team instead of only Julia.

One of the biggest changes brought in with the 2.0 update is that dragons’ breath weapons can now be refined to target the lower of a ranged enemy’s defense or resistance. This means that despite Julia’s solid Resistance and anti-dragon weapon Divine Naga (or her base Naga), she can struggle to effectively deal with non-blue dragons due to her pitifully low Defense. To counter this, Watersweep can be utilized to prevent dragons from counter attacking her, allowing her to safely attack them without fear of being KO'd in the process.
As this build is designed to deal with dragons, Divine Naga is very important; both for the effective damage, as well as ignoring any buffs the dragons may have (such as Fortify Dragons). Julia’s default Naga tome can work on a budget, but it will lose a lot of effectiveness, because the +2 Def/Res when Julia is attacked is not very useful for this build. +ATK is chosen over +SPD because although Watersweep functions based on Speed, Julia will have more than enough speed with Phantom Spd to activate it. Also, every point of Attack is important because she can only attack one time, and it can make the difference for a OHKO.
Glimmer is chosen as the special as the 50% damage boost stacks very well with the additional 50% damage boost gained from Divine Naga’s effective damage against dragons. With Glimmer active, Julia can even OHKO Young Tiki, who is normally very difficult to KO with Naga or Divine Naga due to the weapons triangle.
For the A slot, Swift Sparrow is more reliable since it provides slightly more Attack and Speed, both of which are vitally important for a Watersweep build. However, Fury has the perk of increasing Julia’s Resistance, making it easier for her to activate either Spd Ploy or Res Ploy, either of which can more than make up for Fury’s slightly lower offensive stat gain.
Spd Ploy allows Julia to lower the enemy’s Speed to more easily activate Watersweep, as well as providing team support. Res Ploy similarly provides team support, but instead allows Julia to deal more damage, potentially resulting in a KO that would not otherwise happen (this typically happens more often when accounting for merges). However, as both of these skills can be difficult to obtain, they can be replaced as needed to suit the team composition.
Introduction
Julia's defining trait is that she wields the Naga tome, which can be refined into the Divine Naga tome. Not only is she an effective anti-mage unit, her tome also grants her effective damage versus dragons, allowing her to effectively deal with strong dragon threats such as Nowi.
The obvious comparison is to her mother, Deirdre, who sports the Divine Naga tome as well as a very similar statline. Between the two, Deirdre has higher Speed and Resistance, while Julia has higher HP, Attack, and Defense. The key difference is that Deirdre’s higher Resistance means that she can more easily land Ploys, while Julia’s higher Attack means that she deals more overall damage (critically important when considering their role as anti-dragon units thanks to Divine Naga).
Dragons are harder than ever to deal with thanks to the 2.0 update allowing their refined breath weapons to target the lower of Defense/Resistance against ranged units such as Julia, but thankfully Julia still has the option of running a Watersweep build to counter this.
Overall, Julia is an excellent mage unit that can fit into pretty much any team, as she excels at dealing with other mages and dragons with very little support needed. Just be sure to keep her away from physical damage dealers as she will not be able to handle them.
Strengths
Naga/Divine Naga
Effective damage versus dragons allows Julia to be an effective counter to them, while both versions of her Naga tome allow her to be an effective check to mages.
The refined version, Divine Naga, is much more potent, particularly versus Blade tome mages, and should be a priority to obtain when running Julia.
Strong Magical Bulk
With 70 base magical bulk (72 when attacked while holding her default Naga tome), Julia is quite effective at handling enemy mages.
If her tome is refined to Divine Naga, then Julia becomes even stronger, as she completely negates the primary power source of Blade tome mages (hone/fortify buffs), as well as other buff-dependent mages like Reinhardt.
Self-Sufficient
As a primarily Enemy Phase oriented unit, Julia doesn’t require any particular support from her team to function, unlike Player Phase oriented builds.
Skills like Quick Riposte allow Julia to be an effective threat regardless of Speed, though team support is still useful. For example you can help increase Julia’s Speed to avoid even more doubles.
Weaknesses
Poor Physical Bulk
At neutral IVs, Julia has 55 physical bulk (57 when attacked while holding her default Naga tome).
While this isn’t that bad on paper, Julia typically wants a -DEF bane to avoid damaging her primary role as a mage check, meaning that she is now liable to be KO'd in a single hit from physical damage threats such as bows and Distant Counter swords/axes.
Weak Player Phase
While Julia can boost her Speed high enough to avoid a good number of doubles, she can’t get it high enough to be able to reliable double units herself without Quick Riposte (which only functions on Enemy Phase).
This results in fairly weak damage output.
Team Options
Counters
Julia’s biggest weakness is her awful physical bulk. Despite high magical bulk, she can still be overpowered by certain red mages thanks to the weapon triangle. Finally, she can have issues versus non-blue dragons despite her tome, due to their refined breath weapons targeting her pitiful Defense stat.
- Any Distant Counter / Physical Unit: Due to Julia's low Defense and HP, units like Ayra, Ryoma, Hector, and Black Knight will easily take her out, especially if they are running Distant Counter.
- Archers and Daggers: Brave Lyn and Bridal Cordelia and dagger units -- particularly the dagger units with Poison Dagger or Kitty Paddle such as Kagero and Halloween Sakura -- will completely annihilate her as they have the range to be able to safely engage on her.
- Strong Red Mages: Since they don't rely on Blade tomes to deal heavy damage, Celica and Sanaki can overpower Julia despite her high Resistance simply through weapon triangle advantage, particularly if they run Triangle Adept and/or Green Tomebreaker.
- Non-Blue Dragons: Despite Julia's Divine Naga tome being effective versus dragons, she actually struggles against non-blue dragons if she's not careful. In particular, both Young Tiki and Adult Tiki present significant threats, as they can survive Julia's attack(s) and KO her on the counter with their defense-targeting breath weapon. However, these counters can be mitigated with the Watersweep build.

"Get slapped once, then slap them twice"
The best nature for this build would be +atk/-def. An hp boon would also be beneficial due to having QR 2/3 on her B-slot. A boon in resistance would also be appreciated. Defense is the only acceptable bane, although -res is still tolerable.
The aim of this build is to emphasize on her niche as a Blue tome killer on counter. QR 2/3 ensures that she kills any Linde, Delthea, or Olwen that has a boon in resistance, or if she somehow got an atk debuff from who knows where. Another plus to using QR 2/3 on her B-slot is her ability to kill an unbuffed Nino on the counter. And since QR 2/3 is accessible to everybody (Subaki at 4/5*), this is cheaper than praying for a G.Tomebreaker.
For more expensive builds, you can try giving her Distant Def 3 or even Atk Res +2. The C-slot is pretty flexible and you can slot whatever skill suits your team. Support can either be a movement skill or a Rally skill. Obviously, no Reciprocal Aids or Ardent Sacrifices due to QR 2/3.
Moonbow is the preferred special since she procs it once every encounter. You can also use Draconic Aura, so that she charges it every Enemy Phase and then can unleash it on whoever she wants on the Player Phase.

A +Spd/-Def Julia made to devastate every blue unit, barring one, and combat a good amount of greens.
TA3 allows Julia to obliterate low merged Reinhardts and cripple higher merged versions, regardless of cavalry buffs, while also taking care of all other blues except Mathilda.
G Tomebreaker 3 lets her duel and defeat green tomes with ease, the two exceptions being Sonya (which Julia has a favorable result against) and another Julia (which remains somewhat even). On the topic of greens, she can make a considerable dent in a few others.
Atk Ploy 3 helps make losing match-ups against Distant Counter units bear neutral or even favorable results, specifically against standard Hectors of any nature besides +Spd. She only loses to two potential wielders with this skill: Anna and Legion, due to their speed.
Swap is kinda just there, there's no particular reason for her having it besides having an unwanted Stahl lying around, but it can help get allies out of a Reinhardt or other dangerous blue or green units' attack range.
Despite me trying to avoid having it on all my units, Moonbow gives Julia 4 more potential wins as opposed to Dragon Fang and Iceberg.

First pull of the Sibling Bonds banner with this lady and she's remained a powerhouse since. A whopping 59 attack on initiation (albeit without doubling) and she packs a punch. Hands down my most used Hero.
