Jakob wants an attack boon to supplement his high offense even further. Should that be unavailable, Def/Res boons are also solid options (For Res+ Jakobs, please replace Bonfire/Ignis with Iceberg/Glacies)

Sitting at a base 23 speed, Jakob does not mind a speed bane, since it's unlikely that he’ll double anyway.

Tying with Bridal Cordelia for highest attack for all Archers, it’s a no-brainer (Halloween joke btw) that Jakob can pull off a very effective Brave Bow set. What sets him apart from her is his defensive bulk and ability to run Wary fighter, letting him take hits in a pinch.

As such, his choice of special varies depends on your playstyle. Moonbow combined with Quickened Pulse emulates the “Rein” method of smiting fragile units to death on the first engagement, while Bonfire/Ignis can be taken for more physically bulky enemies.

Death Blow fits onto Jakob like bread and butter, as his speed doesn’t allow him for many doubles anyway. Close Counter is another option should you be interested in charging up his special while chipping foes during Enemy Phase.

Armour March is his preferred C skill, as it allows him to snipe units easily with Armored allies. Should the latter be unavailable, Attack Smoke grants him more survivability after killing off a unit.

For seals, Quickened Pulse is preferred if running Moonbow. Otherwise choose Attack+3 for more overall power.

A set for dedicated Jakobs, this build revolves around taking hits for his liege to get stronger. With Slaying Bow, this aims to bait offensive juggernauts like Reinhardt/Brave Lyn, then blast them with his charged special. Bonfire is preferred against Brave weapon attackers, while Ignis covers other fast attackers.

Distant Defence allows him to tank more ranged hits and increase his Bonfire/Ignis damage, making it the ideal skill for mixed teams. On Armour teams, Close Counter is a viable alternative to give him versatility against melee units, especially with Ward Armour stacking.

Quick Riposte is the optimal skill for this set, letting him build charges for his specials.

The choice of C skill depends on team composition. Atk Ploy helps his tank more hits while being a team player in mixed compositions, while Armored teams benefit more from Armor buffs.

As for seals Distant Defence (again) allows him to tank more ranged hits. Should it be unavailable, Deflect Missle/Magic can be chosen to stop Brave Bow users / Reinhardt cold respectively.

Unlike the other sets, this build aims to take advantage of his default bow, turning him into an annoying debuffer. With Close Counter, Jakob is able to spread Panic status when he counterattacks from any distance, making him a nuisance if one isn’t able to dispatch him quickly.

Wary Fighter is chosen for sustainability, allowing him to get his debuffs off. As this build doesn’t have a lot of offensive firepower, Bonfire is preferred for reliable damage. 

As for his C slot, Atk Ploy is preferred to lower enemies’ attack from a distance, helped by his base 32 Res. Though if on an Armor team, he can take up an Armour buff skill to support his allies instead.

For this build, Attack Smoke is used in his seal slot. Combined with his bow, he can spread both Panic and Attack debuffs on an enemy’s allies.


Debuting as the first Armored bow user, Jakob boasts incredible attack and defenses for a ranged unit. Supplemented with Wary Fighter, he can be extremely hard to take down. 

Though being Armored does come with having one movement, it’s nothing that skills can’t patch up, such as Guidance and Armor March. True to his title of “Devoted Monster” Jakob possesses frightening stats that strikes fear in enemies’ hearts.


High Attack 

  • Tied for highest attack of all Archers, Jakob can dish out serious hurt, especially with a Brave Bow. 

Great Defence/Resistance

  • Boasting a similar defensive spread to Sheena, Jakob makes for a hard opponent to kill regardless of his build, especially with Wary Fighter.

Restricted Movement

  • Like all other Armors, Jakob can only move one step at a time.
  • Mitigated with movement skills (Pivot/Swap), Armour March, Guidance.

Low Speed

  • With a base of 23, Jakob isn’t doubling many units. Thankfully he has access to Wary Fighter to mitigate some of his speed issues
Team Options

Jakob no doubt shines with Armour allies. He can receive Armour March to make him a more aggressive unit with his Brave Bow build, or become more tanky with Ward Armour buffs, increasing his survivability in his defensive sets.

Though not an Armour Jakob also benefits from fliers with Guidance. This skill opens for more positioning options to snipe enemies, especially with his (once again) Brave Bow.

In a mixed team, Jakob may struggle damaging physical tanks, even with his high attack. Thus, magically offensive heroes (Tharja, Nino) make for good teammates.


As a Colorless unit, Jakob primary weakness is Raven tomes, especially with Triangle Adept. Common wielders such as M!Robin, Boey and Sophia shrug off his attacks while dishing major hurt in return.

Outside of that, Jakob existing outside of the weapon triangle makes it difficult to KO him with his bulk and Wary Fighter. However, units with high defense such as Lukas and Xander do not mind absorbing his arrows, making it easier to approach and kill with a charged Ignis/Bonfire.
