Finn’s stats wind up looking similar to other lance cavalry units, such as Oscar, Peri, and Camus. His decent Attack and Speed along with his access to Firesweep Lance allows him to function well as a Player Phase blue glass canon for your team.
In a meta revolving around heavily-defensive Enemy Phase units, it can be a boon to have a unit on your roster who does not fear retaliation. Luckily, this Firesweep Lance set allows Finn to do just that, as it raises his stats up to a round 54 Attack and 41 Speed- with a Hone Cavalry buff on him, he can hit 60 Attack/47 Speed, which is generally enough to double most opponents for the KO.
Chill Spd is expensive but further enables Finn to get KOs on any speedy unit he may encounter, however, he can also utilize Swordbreaker to a similar end, as most of the fastest units in the game are sword wielders. Hit and Run is an out-of-combat option that gives Finn a little more maneuverability in his attacks.
Because this set dumps Defense and Resistance for Attack and Speed, Finn serves well as a defensive buffer for your cavalry team and can offer up a Fortify or Ward Cavalry to assist his team with.
As far as Sacred Seals go, there aren’t many that behoove a fully offensive Player Phase set, but increasing Finn’s Speed will always be a benefit, as will increasing his Attack.

Finn has good duelist stats, so there’s little sense in letting them go to waste. With 33 Speed, he’s easily capable of hitting 39 given Fury and a Slaying Lance refine. Factor in his above-average Defense, and he’ll be difficult to take down no matter which phase he’s in. With a Hone Cavalry buff, he can initiate in the Player Phase with 45 Speed for an attack that will double many of the slower units in the game. If he can’t double on the offense, then his Speed helps him to avoid doubles on the defense while utilizing Quick Riposte to attack twice in return. This guarantees a Bonfire proc off of his sizable Defense stat of 41, with Fury and Close Def Seal equipped.
For more drawn out battles, Renewal can be run in his B slot instead with Quick Riposte in his Seal slot. This helps him shrug off his Fury self damage and any chip damage he receives in combat and allow him to have more sustain in fights and keep his HP above Quick Riposte thresholds.
Going +Spd on the Slaying Lance gives Finn the utility to be run in either Player or Enemy Phase- for a pure Enemy Phase unit, you may want to use +Def for his refine instead and focus your attention into his defenses. Either way, he’s going to be quite tanky and able to retaliate with a strong counterattack.

- Passive C: Threaten Def / Goad Cavalry
- Sacred Seal: Attack +3 / Quickened Pulse
This build is a way to utilize Finn on a budget, so that he can still put in work for you without breaking the inheritance bank. While Chill Def is likely his most optimal B slot for a Brave set, focusing on budget options brings us back to B skills such as Swordbreaker and Lancebreaker, both of which will allow him to pick up quad kills that he would have missed otherwise.
Death Blow and Attack +3 raise his Attack by 9, which gives him 18 more damage during his Player Phase attacks. Conversely, you can utilize Moonbow with Quickened Pulse for a Moonbow proc on your first engagement, but afterwards he’ll only proc it on every other engagement.
Using this build, Finn will be perfectly able to demolish PvE content, but may struggle a bit in the Arena, particularly against high-Defense blue and green units. A friendly Hone Cavalry can help him overcome these issues, if available.
Introduction
As our third blue lance Tempest Trial reward, Finn comes with very nice dueling stats with an Attack/Speed/Defense spread of 34/33/32. This gives him a lot of variability when it comes to build potential, and he can be flexible depending on how you’d like to build him.
Still, his lack of merge options can be an issue and Finn will find himself struggling in a min-max meta where units who are more jack of all trades will find themselves falling a bit short. Without a prf lance or any stat that really makes him shine, Finn becomes yet another blue lance cavalry with heavy competition for his color slot.
Strengths
Availability
Finn is a free Tempest Trial unit given out at 5 stars.
He comes with a Brave Lance and a native Attack boost in his A slot, making him great out of the box at taking down PvE content.
This can work against him a bit however, in that he cannot obtain merges or IVs to increase his stats
Good dueling stats
With 34 Attack and 33 Speed, Finn is roughly equal to Oscar (33/34) and slightly better than Peri (33/33)- both of whom are his main competition for a blue lance cavalry- in terms of raw offensive power.
32 Defense on top of this is far better than both Oscar and Peri (26 and 23 respectively), making him the best duelist among the three.
Any one of these three stats can be built off of to give him a niche or specialization, or they can all be augmented by a skill like Fury to give an impressive generalist on the field.
Weaknesses
Tempest Trial reward
Finn comes with only two copies, meaning that the highest he can be at the moment is +1.
This also means he has no access to IVs, making it difficult to give him a specialty.
Poor Resistance
Despite his good stats elsewhere, Finn has weak Resistance.
He is taken down very easily by dragons in melee range
Even outside of melee range, he will fall to mages, particularly those who can double him.
Team Options
Counters
Despite having a good set of stats for physical fights, Finn still has weaknesses.
- Magical attacks: Finn crumbles easily to units who can attack his Resistance, such as Fae, Myrrh, Nowi, Nino, and Gunnthá.
- Physical greens: He will find himself outclassed by units such as Cherche, Hector, and Winter Chrom.
- Cavalry weaknesses: Gerome, Gray, and Mathilda are all threats due to their native weapons, as are Micaiah and Caeda.

As a Tempest Trial unit, Finn really suffers for not having any IVs and merges. Also, his statline is very similar to another neutral unit, Camus.
That being said, even though that, he stil is a very solid unit who performs very well with investiment.
Weapon: Firesweep Lance+. The 15 might of this weapon turns his 34 attack stat into a respectable 49, along with LnD3 Finn is able to hit 54 for his attack. He also has enough speed to double most units, besides the most recent units, and not be hit back.
Assist: Reposition. The best movement assist in the game.
Special: Moonbow. Standart, quick to charge special that deals a lot of damage. Finn hits hard with this.
A skill: Life and Death. Finn doesn't come with the best bulk of all, so dropping it even lower to get his offensive stats up isn't a bad idea.
B skill: Drag Back. If by chance an enemy doesn't die by his lance, Finn will drag the enemy back, away from his team safety and let his allies finish them off.
C skill: Goad Cavalry. He is an Horse Emblem team, so his friends appreciate the buffs. He also can run any tactic skill, in mixed teams.
Seal: Initiate Seal Atk 3. The more attack the better!

Bonfire | C | Atk Smoke 3 |
| S | Close Def 3 | ||
This is a high investment Enemy Phase build. The stats shown are his bases with the shown skills equipped and him not being merged +1.
Tannenboom! stacks with Kestrel Stance and Close Defense for a stat spread of up to: 54 Atk/39 Spd (40 merged)/44 Def/26 Res on Enemy Phase against melee units (not including the buffs from *Def/Res Link 3).
There are obvious reasons for having a high Atk. Having 39 Spd lets him take less damage due to not being doubled as often, while also allowing him to double more enemies. His incredible Def (up to 50 on Enemy Phase) will make him take very little physical damage, even from a lot Axe Units (although his returning strikes to these Axe Units won't hit quite as hard, so a Bonfire proc is needed if you plan to use Finn to deal with them). He also will hit for up to 25 additional damage upon proccing Bonfire. His Res is usually very neglegible, since you aren't using him to tank mages (Green Mages [and some Blue ones] will oftentimes destroy him, so try to keep him out of range as much as possible). An exception to this are Red and Blue Dragons, which will activate Close Defense for 26 Res (32 with Def/Res Link buffs). I would recommend being on a Defense Tile if you plan to do this (unless none are available or you have the buffs from Def/Res Link).
He works wonders with a Ward Cavalry user. You can stack hidden combat bonuses to help with his tanking abilities this way.
Since he can apply his own buffs and apply buffs to other units at almost any time during player phase, you can use Reposition much more supportively. Some examples are moving another tank in range of an emeny (or having an ally do this to Finn) or moving a Bladetome user and having them nuke (while also allowing easier access for them to get into Desperation range). You can also use Reposition much like you normally would and have Finn move an ally out of range while moving himself in range.
Since none of his equipped skills are locked behind an HP threshold, so you can feel free to heal him back to full health without worry.
*I only put Def/Res Link 2 on the skill list because Def/Res Link 3 isn't available to choose from for some reason.

Just a random set I thought that would work. If you don't want to use brash assault, another idea I have is heavy blade, and you can make it work with Cavalry buffs, specifically hone cavalry, to make use of heavy blade to get an early special.

As you can expect, IS didn't put much effort un this character, giving him really mediocre skills....
I propose this build making a full offensive Finn with awesome 61 ATK (With Earth Blessing and Legendary Ike), and 41 SpD. Also, if you use other Cavalry characters with skills like Hone Cavalry Finn will have 67 ATK and 47 SPD that is incredibly high stats!

Finn has a rather balanced stat line that allows for some flexibility. This build specifically is focused on enemy phase tanking.
Finn's base resistance stat of 18 is unimpressive. However, Berkut's Lance+ (+Res) grants a whopping +11 res when the enemy initiates the attack. This turns his res into a usable 29. Giving him Close Defense 3 for an A skill will boost his defensive stats further to 38/35. Using Distant Def 3 for his Sacred Seal will allow him to enjoy boosted defense stats no matter what range the enemy attacks him from. The same applies if Distant Defense 3 is used as the A skill and Close Def 3 is used as the Sacred Seal. Alternatively, Distant Counter can be used in order to strike back against ranged units instead of just tanking the hits, though this is a more expensive option and does not provide any buffs to his stats.
Quick Riposte 3 makes it easier for Finn to charge his special and score more kills so long as he stays above 70% HP. Aether has a long charge time, but with Quick Riposte 3 it will activate more often. The healing also helps to keep Finn in Quick Riposte 3 range. Bonfire is a cheaper option for his special that will charge faster and benefit greatly from all of his defense buffs.
Finnally, the C skill is flexible. Atk Smoke 3 increases his tanking abilities by reducing the amount of damage he will take, while Def Smoke 3 allows him and his allies to score kills more easily. Savage Blow 3 is the cheapest option and lets him weaken nearby foes during the player phase.
