Boons
-
+ATK: Effie has monstrously high Attack, and a +ATK boon will supplement her damage output further.
-
+DEF: Increasing Effie’s physical bulk improves her matchups against those threats, with the additional benefit of increasing her Bonfire or Ignis damage.
-
+RES: Effie’s relatively unimpressive Resistance can be substantially increased via a superboon (+4 to the stat), which can be further supplemented with a refined Berkut’s Lance to make Effie into an impressive magic tank.
Neutral
-
HP: Due to her low Speed, Effie will not benefit as much from a +HP boon as she would from either a +DEF or +RES boon. This stat is best left at neutral to supplement her bulk.
Banes
- -SPD: Effie’s poor Speed makes it a perfect candidate for a bane. As newer units get more and more Speed, taking a -SPD bane just becomes better and better for Effie, as she has a variety of methods of circumventing Speed.

- Passive B: Special Fighter
- Passive C: Ward Armor / Flexible
- Sacred Seal: Quickened Pulse / Quick Riposte
One of the biggest consequences of the Special Fighter skill is that now any armor can mimic one of the greatest strengths of the Steady Breath/Distant Counter combo, which is to be able to maintain a 1-2 range for counterattacks combined with an accelerated Special charge rate. Effie’s excellent base Attack allows her to be extremely proficient at KO’ing her opponents in a single attack with a Special activation. Her lower mixed defenses compared to another armor like Gwendolyn make her a worse choice for a tank setup, but she can still run the set fairly well.
Pairing the Quickened Pulse Seal with a Slaying Lance and Ignis allows Effie to instantly fire off a huge nuke on her first counterattack thanks to Special Fighter’s accelerated Special charge rate. Alternatively, swapping out the Quickened Pulse Seal for the Quick Riposte Seal and running Bonfire allows Effie to potentially activate multiple Specials per combat; this also makes her a bit more consistent since she can do this repeatedly instead of just once (as is the case with Quickened Pulse). If looking for a tankier setup, then swapping out Slaying Lance for something like Reprisal Lance and running Aether with the Quick Riposte Seal allows Effie to mimic the Steady Breath/Distant Counter/Aether sets that used to be exclusive to dragons and units with built-in Distant Counter. Reprisal Lance isn’t particularly necessary for this setup; it can easily be replaced to suit player preference, as Effie can make good use of pretty much any lance.

- Passive A: Distant Counter / Steady Breath / Warding Breath
- Passive B: Bold Fighter
- Passive C: Armor March / Flexible
- Sacred Seal: Quick Riposte / Quickened Pulse
As an armor unit, Effie has access to the powerful Bold Fighter/Quick Riposte combo and all the mixed phase capabilities it brings. Her high Attack makes her hits particularly devastating, but she does need to be a bit cautious as her bulk can occasionally lead to trouble if she’s not careful. A +Atk refine will work better at lower tiers of Arena, as Effie has significantly more one hit KO potential. At upper tiers, where merges are significantly more prevalent, a +Def refine will be more useful as she will need to hit twice to secure a KO regardless (and the extra bulk will be very handy).
The biggest consideration for this build is choosing between Distant Counter and Steady Breath/Warding Breath. Distant Counter allows Effie to handle ranged threats, but this can be a fairly dangerous prospect if running Quick Riposte as she will need to take two hits before she can activate her Special to secure a KO - this leaves her vulnerable to enemies who can survive a single hit from her (this includes many green mages, particularly if they have merges). Steady Breath/Warding Breath allow Effie to specialize in handling melee threats, which are significantly more common in the upper tiers of Arena. These pair well with the Quick Riposte seal if running Bonfire, as Effie can then activate her Special on every counterattack. Steady Breath is generally better than Warding Breath due to the significantly larger number of physical melee threats compared to magical melee (dragons only), but either will work for the purpose of an accelerated Special charge.
The choice of Special is dependent on Effie’s A skill, Sacred Seal, and player preference. Ignis is the highest damage option, but requires the Quick Riposte seal to activate on Enemy Phase and has poor efficiency with Steady Breath/Warding Breath. Bonfire is the Special of choice if running Steady Breath/Warding Breath, or even if running Distant Counter as it can be paired with the Quickened Pulse seal for an instant Special activation.
Bold Fighter is the key component of this build, as it allows Effie to always double on Player Phase. This is what allows Effie (and all other armors) to run mixed phase builds, as she can combine Bold Fighter with the Quick Riposte seal to double on either phase. The increased Special charge allows her to consistently activate Specials on her turns as well.
Due to armor units’ poor mobility, Armor March is important to allow Effie to get to where she needs to engage enemies. However, it is not strictly necessary, and can be replaced as needed to suit the team.

- Passive B: Vengeful Fighter / Wary Fighter
- Passive C: Panic Ploy / Ward Armor / Flexible
- Sacred Seal: Distant Def / Close Def / Quickened Pulse
Aside from running a mixed phase setup, Effie can also run an entirely Enemy Phase oriented set. This works particularly well with armor teams that lack access to Armor March, as it can be difficult to effectively close distance without it.
The choice of weapon is mostly up to preference, and will dictate Effie’s preferred method of tanking. A Slaying Lance will allow Effie to easily activate Aether whenever she gets doubled thanks to the increased Special charge from Vengeful Fighter, and the choice of +Def or +Res refine along with choice of boon will dictate what she is most effective at fighting. A refined Berkut’s Lance will grant a massive boost to Effie’s Resistance when she is initiated on, turning her into a highly effective magic tank. However, the lack of Special cooldown reduction means that she can’t activate Aether every combat, and she should instead run Glacies or Ignis, depending on which of her two defenses are higher after boon and refine. Finally, Bonfire is an option if running a Slaying Lance and the Quickened Pulse Seal without Steady Breath/Warding Breath, as it will allow Effie to instantly activate her Special on a counterattack.
Distant Counter is the ideal choice to maximize Effie’s ability to handle a variety of threats, particularly if she is using Berkut’s Lance. Steady Breath/Warding Breath are alternative options if wanting to turn Effie into a melee specialist, which is particularly viable at upper tiers of Arena.
Vengeful Fighter is a strictly better version of Quick Riposte, exclusive to armors, that allows Effie to maintain her ability to double for longer periods of time. It can be replaced by Wary Fighter for budget purposes or to maximize survivability. However, keep in mind that skills that grant enemies doubles (such as Bold Fighter or Lancebreaker) will allow them to bypass Wary Fighter, which can potentially place Effie in a dangerous spot.
Both Distant Def and Close Def work great as Seals, depending on which type of threat Effie needs to handle. Quickened Pulse will allow Effie to instantly activate her Special on a counterattack if she is running a Slaying Lance with Bonfire, or a Slaying Lance with Bonfire and either Steady Breath or Warding Breath.

- Passive B: Bold Fighter / Wary Fighter
- Passive C: Armor March / Threaten Def / Flexible
- Sacred Seal: Attack +3 / Armored Boots / Quickened Pulse
One way to take advantage of Effie’s monstrous Attack is to run a purely offensive build like this one. Both Brave Lance+ and Firesweep Lance+ maximize Effie’s Attack stat in different ways, particularly when combined with Bold Fighter. A Brave Lance will allow Effie to guarantee quad strikes on enemies, which few enemies can actually withstand. Firesweep Lance will only allow Effie to strike twice, but each hit will deal more damage thanks to the increased Mt, as well as preventing Effie from having to deal with enemy counterattacks (this is particularly relevant when dealing with meta threats like Zelgius).
For Specials, Glimmer is guaranteed to activate on enemies not running Guard and can potentially activate twice if running a Brave Lance. This consistency makes it an ideal Special to run, though Ignis can be substituted for it if wanting a bigger damage nuke.
Death Blow grants Effie the largest boost to her Attack stat while attacking, but Sturdy Blow is an acceptable option if running a Brave Lance due to Effie potentially having to handle a counterattack. Sturdy Blow also works well if running Ignis, as well as granting more score for arena purposes due to being a 240 SP skill.
Bold Fighter is important due to its ability to guarantee Effie’s doubles, but Wary Fighter can work with a Brave Lance on a budget. If running Wary Fighter, then either run the Quickened Pulse Seal with Glimmer for an instant Special or just Bonfire to avoid wasting Special charges.
Armor March is important to ensure that Effie can reach her targets, as her poor mobility can otherwise make this difficult. If an ally has access to it, then Effie can run Threaten Def or any other C skill that suits the team.
Introduction
Despite losing her crown of highest Attack in the game to Fallen Robin (M) thanks to his access to a superboon, Effie is still a monstrously strong unit in her own right. Her access to armor-exclusive skills like Bold Fighter allow her to accomplish things that no other non-armor units can achieve, such as a true mixed phase setup. Her powerful Attack allows her to deal devastating amounts of damage with every hit, and she has enough bulk that she can handle getting hit as well.
Effie’s strengths come with the typical weaknesses that armor units face: poor mobility, high investment cost, and a weakness to anti-armor weapons. These weaknesses are generally outweighed by the pros of high BST, fantastic performance, and great accessibility (as a result of now being in the 3-4 star summoning pool).
Overall, Effie is an excellent choice for players, particularly those looking for a relatively accessible option for long-term investment.
Strengths
High Attack
With 40 base Attack, Effie is a seriously hard hitter. Her access to skills like Bold Fighter and Vengeful Fighter means that she can leverage her Attack by hitting multiple times.
Armor unit
As a result of being an armored unit, Effie has access to the powerful Bold Fighter/Quick Riposte Seal combo that allows her to double regardless of phase. She also has access to armor-exclusive buffs like Ward Armor.
High BST
Thanks to being an armored unit, Effie has high stats overall, resulting in strong combat performance as well as being great for arena scoring.
Low Speed
Effie’s low Speed is actually rather useful: getting doubled allows her to charge Specials faster, as well as causing her other stats to be higher. As an armor unit, Effie has access to skills that allow her to easily bypass her low Speed without losing any damage potential (Bold Fighter and Vengeful Fighter).
Weaknesses
Poor mobility
Despite its strengths, being an armor unit has its disadvantages as well. Namely, poor mobility - Effie can only move one space per turn. This can be mitigated via Armor March, but even that carries the opportunity cost of taking the skill, as well as forcing positioning requirements.
Anti-Armor weapons
As an armor unit, Effie shares a weakness to anti-armor weapons such as Hammer. Technically she could easily mitigate this with Svalinn Shield, but it severely limits her potential to not be able to run another A skill like Distant Counter.
Low Speed
While it is a strength, Effie’s low Speed is also a weakness. Although getting doubled is useful for charging her Specials, it does result in her taking more damage as well as charging enemy Specials.
Team Options
Counters
-
Preventing counters: Despite Effie’s power, she is helpless against units that can prevent her from counterattacking, such as those wielding Firesweep weapons like Bridal Cordelia, Brave Lyn, Tana, and Shigure.
-
Anti-Armor weapons: Units wielding anti-armor weapons like Hammer such as Bartre, Winter Chrom, and Cherche can make short work of Effie.
-
Strong greens: Effie is still susceptible to color advantage despite her strengths, making units like Myrrh, Fallen Robin (M), Hector, and Nino (SF) strong counters.
-
Guard: Adding the Guard skill to a tanky unit (particularly green units) is a great way of shutting Effie down. Good candidates include Beruka, Michalis, Sheena, Lukas, and Shiro.

Casa Blanca+ removes stat buffs from ranged units. Atk refine gives it legendary Mt. One hit should be enough to kill most soft mages, staves, and non-bulky bows. Wary Fighter is optional if you have extra bold or vengeful fighter. Vantage could also work. Ward armor is still a great c skill on armor emblem. Panic Ploy is also a good choice and works outside of armor emblem. Not sure how Casa Blanca’s effect will interact with it though. Sacred Seal is optional. QR3 is another good choice considering you are guranteed to only be hit once in the enemy phase combat due to wary fighter.

This Effie is an absolute monster on arena defense. This DC build is intended to completely check mages as a threat to Effie while further increasing her naturally high defense.
Unmerged:
55 HP, 54 Atk, 19 Spd, 37 Def, 27 Res
Attacked from range: 43 Def, 40 Res
Attacked by dragon: 34 Res
Optimally a -Spd bane is taken for obvious reasons. A +Res boon is taken for this build, starting her at 27 resistance. Toss on Berkuts Lance+ (+Def) and she will be given an extra +7 Res when attacked. With the addition of the Distance Defense seal she reaches a whopping 40 Res when attacked. Berkuts Lance+ (+Def) also gives her +5 HP and +4 Def taking those stats to 55 and 37 respectively (43 Def when attacked from range because of Distant Defense seal).
Distant Counter is the A skill obviously.
Vengeful Fighter is taken as the B skill, allowing her to hit back twice, triggering Bonfire on that second hit. (Wary Fighter can be used instead simply to mitigate the damage she takes, but since it does not speed up your special cooldown, a shorter special like Glimmer should be used instead of Bonfire.)
The C skill is flexible here but with 55 HP I prefer to use Panic Ploy to try to counter any class-specific buffs. (Threaten Attack is perfectly fine if you dont have a 5* Valter to sacrifice. Also Attack Smoke is a good one but what kind of Grima-loving sadist would sacrifice Brave Lyn?)
Note: I like to pair her with a character who is running Armor March (I use Winter Tharja) because that extra movement helps keep Effie at the front lines.

A very flexible build for Effie. Fortify defense can be switched out for an armour buff and the build will remain just as good. Definitely more of a player phase build, but is serviceable enough on the enemy phase. Just keep her away from green mages and Micaiah. Specific stats are only available through S rank summoner support. If you don't want to support with Effie, hp will be cut by 5, and everything else will be cut by 2.

Sitting with the highest attack in the game as is and having access to Bold Fighter allows Effie to instead invest completely into becoming a devastating glass cannon, despite her armor.
With Firesweep Lance+, Effie has a completely safe and guaranteed double bar Lancebreaker or Wary Fighter thanks to her own Bold Fighter, meaning she is completely immune to counters, while having near unmatched raw attacking power. Furthermore, Bold Fighter gives her attacks a built-in Heavy Blade effect, allowing her to easily charge up high cooldown specials. For instance, when combined with Quickened Pulse, Effie can immediately activate Galeforce after doubling an opponent, allowing her to continue her onslaught. Armor March, partly for this reason, is essential to patch up her otherwise poor mobility to maximize her potential.
In her A slot, Effie may also opt for Life and Death instead of Death Blow - as she is running Firesweep Lance and cannot counter on Enemy Phase, losing bulk will often not make a difference to her, and she has enough raw power to make up for one less point in attack. More importantly, having 5 more speed means that she is able to still double slow Wary Fighter users (such as other Effies) that would otherwise cancel out her Bold Fighter skill, as she will be able to naturally double them regardless. Should this route be taken, an HP, Def or Res bane may instead be taken so as to retain her speed.

**TAKEN FROM CohTahSoa's Build**
Effie is an absolute titan on both offense and defense. She currently has the highest base Attack in the game, supplemented by high physical bulk courtesy of her massive HP and good Defense. This set describes standard Brave Lance Effie with a focus on absorbing physical damage.
Weapon: Brave Lance+
Effie's base 40 Attack and easy access to Death Blow make her one of the best Brave Lance users in the game. Few non-green units can survive two hits from even a neutral Effie with Death Blow.
Assist: Pivot
Effie's biggest weakness is her lack of mobility, which can be mitigated by giving her Pivot. Swap can be used instead to help Effie navigate less open spaces.
Special: Bonfire
If she holds a Brave Lance, Bonfire is Effie's most potent special, even if you run both an +Atk boon and an Attack+ seal.
IVs: +Def/Atk, -Spd
Take either a +Def or +Atk IV, depending on whether you want Effie to be more durable or more deadly. Thanks to Wary Fighter, Speed is useless for Effie, and she can safely dump it.
A Passive: Death Blow
Effie's natural Death Blow synergizes perfectly with her Brave Lance, allowing her to blow up any unit without high defense.
B Passive: Wary Fighter
Wary Fighter prevents both units in combat from performing follow-up attacks. With Effie's awful base Speed of 22, 17 with a Brave Lance, she won't be performing any double attacks anyway, so you might as well take this and nullify your opponents' doubles. Wary Fighter allows Effie to survive rounds with all but the heaviest hitting green mages and kill most of them in return with her Brave Lance. Note that Wary Fighter does not protect you from "guaranteed follow-up" skills if the other unit outspeeds Effie by at least 5.
C Passive: Armor March, Threaten Def, Flexible
Armor March is the ideal option on armor teams, as it allows Effie to receive the movement bonus, while freeing up her allies to provide her with Hone/Fortify/Goad Armor. Threaten Def is one of Effie's best options on any team, as it affects all the units she can reach on her own and decreases their Defense by 5, increasing Effie's Brave Lance damage by 10. Like many units, her C passive is flexible. She can run a Hone/Fortify for mixed teams with a blade tome mage, or any armor buff on an armor team.
Seal: Flexible
Defense+ or Attack+ can raise Effie's most important stats. Distant Defense allows her to better tank archers and mages. Effie's base HP is very high, making her an effective user of Panic Ploy. Choose your seal based on which enemies you most need Effie to be able to deal with.
Team Options:
Since Effie can blow up anyone without high Defense, she often teams up well with mages who can take out anyone she can't, like Nino, Tharja, Celica, and Halloween Henry. Many of these mages also appreciate having a bulky tank to hide behind. Halloween Henry is an exceptionally good partner for Effie if you want to build an armor core, being one of the only armored mages, having the highest Resistance of all armored units, and having easy access to the rare Armor March. Winter Tharja is another armored mage with great matchups against Effie's counters. Effie also works well with heroes that can help her move around the map with skills like Reposition and Draw Back
