Key stats worth increasing through nature if possible.
Complementary stats that matter, but not to the point of picking them over key stats for nature increase.
Relatively worthless stat that can safely be decreased through nature.

As an Armored Unit with polarizing stats, Effie wants to either accentuate her strengths to maximize her destructive potential.

  • +ATK: An Attack-increasing nature complements Effie's battle style the best because it allows her to secure many more OHKOs while improving her best stat. It is particularly lethal on Player-Phase builds.
  • +DEF: Increasing Effie's physical bulk improves her physical trades while increasing her Bonfire/Ignis damage. It, of course, aids in prolonged fights, especially against fellow Blues.

  • HP: Effie would prefer not to lose bulk unless necessary, as she will most likely be required to take a hit before retaliating.
  • RES: Since Effie has limited movement, she may need to weather attacks from tome users. In addition, dragon breaths will seriously harm her, especially with doubles, if she loses too much Res.

  • -SPD: A Speed-decreasing nature is the optimal stat to reduce due to the effect of Wary Fighter, is Effie's primary B-Passive. Her speed is considered her dump stat since it rarely affects her matchups.

Show Explanation/Analysis
  • Preferred IV: +ATK or +RES or +DEF / -SPD
  • Weapon: Slaying Lance+ (+Def/+Res Forge) / Berkut's Lance (+Def/+Res Forge) / Ridersbane (+Effect Forge)
  • Support Skill: Pivot / Swap
  • Special: Aether / Ignis
  • Passive A: Distant Counter
  • Passive B: Vengeful Fighter 3 / Wary Fighter
  • Passive C: Threaten Def / Threaten Atk 3 / Armor buffs
  • Sacred Seal: Distant Def 3 / Close Def 3 / Quickened Pulse

Due to the poor movement of armors, many units prefer for their enemies to come to them and Effie is no different. The preferred A slot for the main 'core' of an armor team is Distant Counter, due to the inherent tankiness of Armor units and their ability to bait out a hit from the enemy and kill them on counter, particularly squishy mages.

This set is versatile where weapon selection is concerned: Slaying Lance offers you more power in mitigated cooldowns on her special proc, while Berkut's Lance will turn her into a magical tank to match her physical tank status- and finally, a Ridersbane will be incredibly helpful against those pesky Cavalry teams, and will help her to kill units like Reinhardt and Olwen with little issue.

Vengeful Fighter ensures that as long as Effie is able to counterattack (ie: the enemy is not running Sacae's Blessing, Firesweep, or Windsweep), then Aether will always proc during the combat, making it the optimal choice. Ignis is another option that can proc for massive damage if chosen. If Berkut's Lance is chosen over Slaying Lance for the added Res buff, then Effie will want to go with Ignis as her special so that she can still proc it on the Enemy Phase. As a note, with +Res, Effie gets to 27 Res, with Berkut's Lance + Res Forge, she finds herself at a whopping 38 Res- definitely something worth looking into if you want a mage counter.

Lastly, running Close or Distant defense as seals mostly boils down to how you see yourself using her: either as a counter to squishy mages or as a wall for your team. However you decide, choosing the appropriate IV and Forge (+Def or +Res) will help to supplement that.

OG Effie (Silver Lance)
Silver Lance+ (+Def) A Death Blow 3
Pivot B Wary Fighter 3
Bonfire C Threaten Atk 3
SP1,265SClose Def 3

Show Explanation/Analysis
  • Preferred IV: +ATK / -SPD
  • Weapon: Silver Lance+ (Def Forge)
  • Support Skill: Pivot / Swap
  • Special: Bonfire
  • Passive A: Death Blow 3 / Distant Counter
  • Passive B: Wary Fighter 3
  • Passive C: Threaten Atk 3 / Threaten Def 3 / Varies on team
  • Sacred Seal: Close Def 3

Effie utilizes her natural-borne skills quite well with Silver Lance producing the strongest, non-buffed, neutral attack in the game aided by Death Blow 3 and Bonfire for added damage, though she can also run Escutcheon and make herself even more tanky. When forging her lance, take care to note that a +def forge will give her +4 stat points, whereas an +atk forge only gives her +2. In addition, she gains 5 HP, all of which makes her much more difficult to take down by a melee unit.

Wary Fighter 3 and Threaten Atk 3 work together to increase Effie's overall bulk while Pivot is used to improve her walking distance by up to 2 extra movement spaces if she does not have an Armor March or Guidance ally. Threaten Def 3 can also be used to weaken the enemy's defense further before hitting them even harder. She can run Armor buffs to further supplement her team as well.

Close Defense is the ideal seal for this build as it increases her defense even further when hit by an enemy from an adjacent tile. This is technically a 'budget' build but it's extremely effective and turns Effie into a fearsome tank for your team.

Effie Learned To Hit Twice (Brave Lance+)
Brave Lance+ A Death Blow 3
Pivot B Bold Fighter 3
Bonfire C Armor March 3
Budget: Threaten Def 3
SP1,895SAttack +3

Show Explanation/Analysis
  • Preferred IV: +ATK/ -SPD
  • Weapon: Brave Lance+
  • Support Skill: Pivot / Swap
  • Special: Glimmer / Aether
  • Passive A: Death Blow 3 / Distant Counter
  • Passive B: Bold Fighter 3 / Wary Fighter
  • Passive C: Armor March / Threaten Def 3 / Varies on team
  • Sacred Seal: ATK +3 / Armored Boots

With a Brave Lance in hand, and Bold Fighter in her B slot, Effie can set up for a devastating quad and ORKO a staggering amount of units. Armor March ensures that she'll be able to utilize that Player Phase utility by giving her the flexibility of more movement. Glimmer will proc on every brave attack she strikes with Bold Fighter, potentially adding its special damage twice in a single round of combat. Aether will also proc during her quad attack, making it an excellent option for her to sustain her HP threshold for Bold Fighter and Armored Boots.

Death Blow is a no brainer for her A-slot, as Effie does not rely on speed to quad and so wants to gain as many possible points in attack as she can, as each point is quadrupled in damage whenever she attacks- for this reason, Atk+3 is recommended as her Seal Slot. Armor allies who can boost her attack through Hone and Goad Armor skills are also appreciated, and having an armored ally is vital for Armor March to function properly.

Positioning Brave Lance Effie is a little trickier than one might think- she constantly needs to be in range of an ally armored unit for Armor March to give her extra mobility, and she's far weaker on the Enemy Phase without Wary Fighter protecting her, however, this is a trade off for a devastating player phase nuke and her viability here shouldn't be underestimated.

Effie is almost always near the top of tier lists for a strong reason: with an incredibly high attack stat offset by a reasonably high defense and horrible speed, Effie is the strongest user of Wary Fighter out there.  She is a top tier bait unit due to her ability to force the enemy into attacking only once, and she's extremely dangerous once the opposing unit is within her admittedly short range due to her monstrous base attack. She has high BST, is not difficult to get merges for, and will perform solidly in any team.

She is held back by her movement type of course, as well as her slow speed which almost requires her to run Wary Fighter in her B slot.  However, her stats are perfectly designed to make the most of Wary Fighter and can be strengthened even more through IVs and skills.

High Attack

Effie possesses the highest ATK stat in the game. She hits everything hard, despite hitting usually only once. No matter how she's played - offensive or defensively - Effie will almost certainly leave quite a dent.

High Physical Bulk

Her HP and DEF makes her incredibly hard to KO, unless running against a Brave Axe or powerful green magic. Combined with Wary Fighter, she makes one of the best 'bait' units in the game.

High BST

Due to armored-units having a naturally high BST, they can be used effectively to bump up Arena scores. Effie shines since she also functions as a fantastic unit.

Low Speed

With a neutral speed of 22, she has pathetically low speed and cannot compete against anyone remotely fast. Effie relies on Wary Fighter to maintain her bulk, and this may limit her ability to run other B Slots. If she drops below 50% HP, she may quickly fall to enemy doubles.

Very Low Resistance

Effie takes heavy magic damage from any color, which makes running her against mages a liability unless the Berkut's Lance build is used. She is also weak to dragons, some of which can rival her physical bulk while hitting at her low resistance. Be especially wary against magical threats running Lancebreaker.

Restricted Movement

Being an armored unit means she can only move one tile at a time. Due to this, she has poor matchups against mages, particularly those with teammates who have movement skills This can be improved with Pivot, Swap, or Armor March if being run on a team with other armors.

Team Options

Effie is an armored unit, so she pairs well with other armored units giving their movement-type buffs, or with dancers who give her extended range. Healers get a special note since she relies on Wary Fighter to stay alive, and they can easily keep her above the 50% HP threshold; Effie functions as a reliable anchor for the team, so they should be expected to play around her rather than have her chase them around.

  • Armored Units: Hector, Sheena, Zephiel, and Draug operate in a different color and provide Effie with needed coverage. Stacking Ward Armor and/or Armor March will mitigate many of Effie's weaknesses.
  • Olivia and Dancers: Effie particularly benefits from these units that can give her another turn to move and close the gap between enemies. She provides them safe cover by drawing enemy fire. Olivia gets a special note for her ability to cover Effie's weakness to Greens while Effie protects her against rival Reds and Blues.
  • Priscilla and Clarine: These healers have very helpful mobility and keep Effie healthy while remaining bulky themselves, giving them great flexibility.
  • Nino, Julia, Tharja, and Celica: In general, tomes appreciate Effie since she protects them from melee units while giving powerful covering fire for Effie as she slowly approaches and Pivots around them.

Units with high defense and either color advantage or magical-based attack will be able to prevail over Effie in a slugfest. She can also be whittled down by repeated battles until Wary Fighter is no longer active, after which she will quickly fall.

  • Hector, Sheena, and Amelia: These armors easily absorb Effie's strongest hits and deal significant damage in return due to the Weapon Triangle. Effie will most likely never be able to beat them in a head-on fight.
  • Fae and Myrrh: These two dragons can tank Effie's damage while striking back with magical, Weapon Triangle boosted hits. Myrrh stands out as particularly deadly due to her tremendous base defense accompanied by magical damage, making her a complete counter to Effie.
  • Michalis and Cherche: Fliers can run circles around Effie, and both Cherche and Michalis boast terrific offensive abilities that can shred through Effie, Wary Fighter and all while taking little damage in return.
  • Boey, Spring Camilla, Robin (F), and Nino: Mages deal heavy damage to her, and the first three also boast very high defense that even DC Effie will not be able to overcome.
  • Anti-Armor Weapons and Lancebreaker: These skills are built to rip through Effie; she should avoid them at all costs.
