Due to the poor movement of armors, many units prefer for their enemies to come to them and Effie is no different. The preferred A slot for the main 'core' of an armor team is Distant Counter, due to the inherent tankiness of Armor units and their ability to bait out a hit from the enemy and kill them on counter, particularly squishy mages.

This set is versatile where weapon selection is concerned: Slaying Lance offers you more power in mitigated cooldowns on her special proc, while Berkut's Lance will turn her into a magical tank to match her physical tank status- and finally, a Ridersbane will be incredibly helpful against those pesky Cavalry teams, and will help her to kill units like Reinhardt and Olwen with little issue.

With this set, Effie becomes a master of ranged combat in addition to her close quarters abilities. With Slaying Lance and Bonfire, Effie can successfully bait a unit and counterattack for the two required cooldown charges, leaving you free to have her initiate on any enemy within her reach during player phase with a massive Bonfire proc. Wary Fighter ensures that as long as Effie is able to counterattack (ie: the enemy is not running Sacae's Blessing, Firesweep, or Windsweep), then Bonfire will always be primed to go on player phase. If you foresee running into Brave weapons, then you can run Ignis for more damage at the expense of a longer cooldown. Alternatively, you can run this with Quickened Pulse seal so that she retaliates with a Bonfire in the first encounter.

Glimmer is another interesting option now that the cooldown for the skill has been lowered, and would proc upon Effie's first retaliation for increased damage on whoever was unfortunate enough to hit her in the first place. If Berkut's Lance is chosen over Slaying Lance for the added Res buff, then Effie will want to go with Glimmer as her special so that she can have it charged in the following turn. As a note, with +Res, Effie gets to 27 Res, with Berkut's Lance + Res Forge, she finds herself at a whopping 38 Res- definitely something worth looking into if you want a mage counter.

Lastly, running Close or Distant defense as seals mostly boils down to how you see yourself using her: either as a counter to squishy mages or as a wall for your team. However you decide, choosing the appropriate IV and Forge (+Def or +Res) will help to supplement that.

Effie utilizes her natural-borne skills quite well with Silver Lance producing the strongest, non-buffed, neutral attack in the game aided by Death Blow 3 and Bonfire for added damage, though she can also run Escutcheon and make herself even more tanky. When forging her lance, take care to note that a +def forge will give her +4 stat points, whereas an +atk forge only gives her +2. In addition, she gains 5 HP, all of which makes her much more difficult to take down by a melee unit.

Wary Fighter 3 and Threaten Atk 3 work together to increase Effie's overall bulk while Pivot is used to improve her walking distance by up to 2 extra movement spaces if she does not have an Armor March or Guidance ally. Threaten Def 3 can also be used to weaken the enemy's defense further before hitting them even harder. She can run Armor buffs to further supplement her team as well.

Close Defense is the ideal seal for this build as it increases her defense even further when hit by an enemy from an adjacent tile. This is technically a 'budget' build but it's extremely effective and turns Effie into a fearsome tank for your team.

Keeping most of her original build, Effie finds a new lance and becomes an entirely different unit. With a Brave Lance in hand, she can ORKO nearly any non-Green unit and half of the Green units. If a Bonfire or Ignis is charged up, very few units outside of a Hector will live to tell the tale of the Effie who blasted through mountains. For example, a neutral Effie with Ignis loaded can hit a neutral Hector for upwards of 35 damage. That is two-thirds of his full HP. In the hands of the right strategist, Effie can set the tone for many battles baiting and killing enemies she has a direct disadvantage towards. Threaten Def 3 is the preferred C-Passive since the debuff effect is "doubled" by Brave Lance's double attack feature. Death Blow 3 pairs well with Brave Lance as well, but Distant Counter offers a lot of strategic value for Effie building up Bonfire/Ignis charges as well as OHKOing or softening up ranged foes for allies to pick off.

Effie appreciates Armor-buffs such as Hone and Goad Armor that further increase her attack power and improving the Brave Lance's usage. Or Fortify and Ward Armor to further improve her overall bulk as she takes foes out as they run into her.

Introduction

Pros:

  • Solid bulk
  • Very high attack
  • Has the stats to support Wary Fighter, making her difficult to KO
  • High BST supports high score in Arena

Cons:

Effie is almost always at the top of tier lists for a strong reason: with an incredibly high attack stat offset by a reasonably high defense and horrible speed, Effie is the strongest user of wary fighter out there.  She is a top tier bait unit due to her ability to force the enemy into attacking only once, and she's extremely dangerous once the opposing unit is within her admittedly short range. She has a high BST, is not difficult to get merges for, and will perform solidly in any team.

She is held back by her movement type of course, as well as her slow speed which almost requires her to run Wary Fighter in her B slot.  However, her stats are perfectly designed to make the most of Wary Fighter and can be strengthened even more through IVs and skills.

Strengths

High Attack:

  • The highest ATK in the game.  Effie hits everything hard, which is offset by the fact that she can only hit once.
  • No matter how she's played- offensive or defensively- her raw attack stat will enable her to hit hard.

High Defense and HP:

  • Her bulk makes her incredibly hard to KO, unless running against a Brave Axe or powerful green magic
  • Combined with Wary Fighter, she makes one of the best 'bait' units in the game

Scores highly in Arena:

  • Due to armored-units having a naturally high BST, they can be used effectively to bump up Arena scores.
Weaknesses

Low Speed:

  • With a neutral speed of 22, she has the third-lowest speed in the game.
  • She needs to run Wary Fighter to mitigate this; running a different B skill decreases her sustainability significantly

Very Low Resistance:

  • Takes heavy magic damage from any color, which makes running her against mages a liability
  • Also weak to dragons, which are becoming very popular in the meta

Restricted Movement:

  • Being an armored unit means she can only move one tile at a time.
  • Due to this, she has poor matchups against mages, particularly those with teammates who have movement skills
  • This can be improved with Pivot, Swap, or Armor March if being run on a team with other armors

Be wary of her limited movement and magic-users with Lancebreaker.  And once she drops below 50% HP, her Wary Fight becomes inactive, so she will take double attacks from most units at that point.
