Boons
- +ATK: Is an excellent boon, as Deirdre’s base 33 Attack stat is only decent, but 36 with boon is great. It also synergizes well with Divine Naga’s effective damage.
- +SPD: Can push Deirdre’s low-ish Speed to surprisingly high levels, particularly if utilizing her base Spd Ploy skill. A unit debuffed with Spd Ploy will need 41 unbuffed Speed (remember that Divine Naga negates all hone/fortify buffs, though in combat buffs such as spurs will still apply) to double her.
- +RES: Increases Deirdre’s already massive magical bulk, making her nearly immune to magical damage in a lot of cases. It also enables her to land Ploy skills even more easily.
Banes
- -DEF and -HP are both equally viable banes. Of the two, -DEF is slightly better as Deirdre’s Defense is pathetically low anyway, and it avoids damaging her magical bulk. Keep in mind that Defense has a superbane, so she will lose 4 points in that stat as opposed to 3 with a -HP bane.

This set aims to make the best use of Deirdre’s incredible magical bulk. The combination of Deirdre’s high resistance, Divine Naga, and Ploys result in a deceptively tanky and powerful unit.
Divine Naga is one of the main components of Deirdre’s power; not only does it deal effective damage versus dragons, but it also negates buffs (hone/fortify only) that would otherwise increase the enemy's damage output. This removes the need for Panic Ploy to nullify enemy buffs, and allows Deirdre to completely shut down enemy Blade tome mages.
Iceberg is chosen as the Special, as a 3 cooldown Special will always activate thanks to Quick Riposte if Deirdre is doubled, or be charged and ready to activate on the next combat if she is not.
Fury is the A slot of choice, as the stat boost is greatly beneficial. Attack and Speed boost Deirdre’s offensive and defensive power, while the resistance allows her to both tank more magical damage, as well as allow her to apply her Ploys more effectively. If the recoil damage from Fury is a dealbreaker (it can potentially knock Deirdre out of Quick Riposte range), then Distant Def and Atk/Res Bond are both powerful options that also perform excellently.
Quick Riposte is a necessity to ensure that Deirdre can double, as while her Speed can be high enough to avoid getting doubled, she is nowhere near the level of Speed needed to consistently double without it.
Spd Ploy and Atk Ploy seal both allow Deirdre to utilize her massive resistance to debuff the enemy, resulting in significantly easier matchups for her, as well as providing excellent team support. Distant Def seal can be chosen over Atk Ploy if someone else is running it, or if wanting to bolster Deirdre’s Resistance even higher.

One of the biggest changes brought in with the 2.0 update is that dragons’ breath weapons can now be refined to target the lower of a ranged enemy’s Defense or Resistance. This means that despite Deirdre’s stellar Resistance and anti-dragon weapon Divine Naga, she can struggle to effectively deal with non-blue dragons due to her pitifully low Defense. To counter this, Watersweep can be utilized to prevent dragons from counter attacking her, allowing her to safely attack them without fear of dying in the process.
As this build is designed to deal with dragons, Divine Naga is a must; both for the effective damage, as well as ignoring any buffs the dragons may have (such as Fortify Dragons). +ATK is chosen over +SPD because although Watersweep functions based on Speed, Deirdre will have more than enough Speed with this build due to Phantom Spd. Also, every point of Attack is important because she can only attack one time, and it can make the difference for a OHKO.
Glimmer is chosen as the special as the 50% damage boost stacks very well with the additional 50% damage boost gained from Divine Naga’s effective damage against dragons. With Glimmer active, Deirdre can even OHKO Young Tiki, who is normally very difficult to KO with Naga or Divine Naga.
For the A slot, Swift Sparrow is more reliable since it provides slightly more Attack and Speed, both of which are vitally important for a Watersweep build. However, Fury has the perk of increasing Deirdre’s Resistance, making it easier for her to activate either Spd Ploy or Res Ploy, either of which can more than make up for Fury’s lower offensive stat gain.
Spd Ploy allows Deirdre to lower the enemy’s Speed to more easily activate Watersweep, as well as providing team support. Res Ploy similarly provides team support, but instead allows Deirdre to deal more damage, potentially resulting in a KO that would not otherwise happen (this typically happens more often when accounting for merges).
Introduction
Fittingly, Deirdre is remarkably similar to her daughter Julia, especially now that Julia can refine her Naga tome into Deirdre’s Divine Naga tome. Between the two, Deirdre has higher Speed and Resistance, while Julia has higher HP, Attack, and Defense. The key difference is that Deirdre’s higher Resistance means that she can more easily land Ploys, while Julia’s higher Attack means that she deals more overall damage (critically important when considering their role as anti-dragon units thanks to Divine Naga).
Just like Julia, Deirdre excels shutting down enemy mages thanks to the combination of her fantastic magical bulk and Divine Naga’s ability to negate buffs. While dragons are a bigger threat than ever thanks to their ability to target the weaker of Defense/Resistance in ranged foes, Deirdre still has enough Speed to be able to effectively run a Watersweep build to counter this.
Overall, Deirdre is a fantastic mage unit that can help a team deal with other mages and dragons. Just keep her away from physical damage dealers at all costs.
Strengths
Divine Naga
This tome alone transforms Deirdre from a mage with decent-ish stats to a very powerful one.
Granting effective damage versus dragons is already incredibly powerful on a magic damage dealing tome, but it also negates buffs (hone/fortify) from ALL units.
Strong Base Kit
Deirdre doesn’t particularly require heavy investment to attain her optimal build.
She only requires a Special and A slot, and different assist skill if desired. None of the choices for those 3 slots are expensive, as they are available on units who can be obtained at low rarity.
Very High Magical Bulk
Deirdre is a very effective unit against other mages, even many red ones.
In particular, mages reliant on buffs, such as blade tome mages and Reinhardt, get completely blown away, as their buffs get nullified by Divine Naga.
Self-Sufficient
As a primarily an Enemy Phase oriented unit, Deirdre doesn’t require nearly as much support as Player Phase oriented units do.
Thanks to skills like Quick Riposte, Deirdre doesn’t need to worry about hitting key stat thresholds (such as with Speed) to do her job, though any support she receives will certainly be helpful.
Weaknesses
Horrible Physical Bulk
Deirdre will explode if any physical damage dealing unit glances in her general direction.
At neutral IVs, she only has 52 physical bulk, 48 with a -DEF bane, or 51 with a -DEF bane and Fury. In all three scenarios, she is very liable to die to a single hit from many physical damage dealing units.
Weak Player Phase
While Deirdre excels at Enemy Phase, she struggles in Player Phase due to her subpar Speed. While a Player Phase build is possible, it simply won’t be particularly effective.
The exception is the Watersweep build, which focuses entirely on her ability to counter dragons. That build is niche, and is still not particularly effective versus other units.
Team Options
Counters
Deirdre’s biggest weakness is her awful physical bulk. Despite high magical bulk, she can still be overpowered by certain red mages thanks to the weapon triangle. Finally, she can have issues versus non-blue dragons despite her Divine Naga, due to their refined breath weapons targeting her pitiful defense stat.
- Any Distant Counter / Physical Unit: Due to Deirdre's low Defense and HP, units like Ayra, Ryoma, Hector, and Black Knight will easily take her out, especially if they are running Distant Counter.
- Archers and Daggers: Brave Lyn and Bridal Cordelia and dagger units -- particularly the dagger units with Poison Dagger or Kitty Paddle such as Kagero and Halloween Sakura -- will completely annihilate her as they have the range to be able to safely engage on her.
- Strong Red Mages: Since they don't rely on Blade tomes to deal heavy damage, Celica and Sanaki can overpower Deirdre despite her high Resistance simply through weapon triangle advantage, particularly if they run Triangle Adept and/or Green Tomebreaker.
- Non-Blue Dragons: Despite Deirdre’s Divine Naga tome being effective versus dragons, she actually struggles against non-blue dragons if she's not careful. In particular, both Young Tiki and Adult Tiki present significant threats, as they can survive Deirdre’s attack(s) and KO her on the counter with their defense-targeting breath weapon. However, these counters can be mitigated with the Watersweep build.

IVs: +Def, -Spd
This build aims to take advantage of the Distant Defense seal combined with Distant Defense to make Deirdre a solid counter to many mages, while simultaneously take on Lyn and Reinhardt.
With the combined Distant Defense skills, Deirdre gains 31/47 defenses with the given IVs, making her an incredible wall. Her Spd is taken as the bane simply because at 28 spd, Deirdre won't avoid many doubles even with a boon. This is especially potent due to the fact that Divine Naga prevents enemies from buffing their way through her defenses, making her a great unit on enemy phase. Bowbreaker is taken to prevent doubles from Brave Lyn which would otherwise finish off Deirdre.
Her Suppport Skill and C slot are flexible, and if one desires Deirdre to fully counter Green mages instead of Bows, G Tomebreaker is an option. Iceberg is the most consistent skill, given that Deirdre will often be defending, and with the Distant Defense boost, Iceberg becomes a great burst damage option.
