Boons

  • +ATK: Is an excellent boon, as Deirdre’s base 33 Attack stat is only decent, but 36 with boon is great. It also synergizes well with Divine Naga’s effective damage.
  • +SPD: Can push Deirdre’s low-ish Speed to surprisingly high levels, particularly if utilizing her base Spd Ploy skill. A unit debuffed with Spd Ploy will need 41 unbuffed Speed (remember that Divine Naga negates all hone/fortify buffs, though in combat buffs such as spurs will still apply) to double her.
  • +RES: Increases Deirdre’s already massive magical bulk, making her nearly immune to magical damage in a lot of cases. It also enables her to land Ploy skills even more easily.

Banes

  • -DEF and -HP are both equally viable banes. Of the two, -DEF is slightly better as Deirdre’s Defense is pathetically low anyway, and it avoids damaging her magical bulk. Keep in mind that Defense has a superbane, so she will lose 4 points in that stat as opposed to 3 with a -HP bane.

Deirdre performs at her peak with an Enemy Phase oriented build, aimed at improving her ability to retaliate against and KO enemy heroes. Her unique Divine Naga tome is her weapon of choice, and +ATK or +SPD are her preferred Assets in order to augment her offensive capability.

Fury is the perfect choice for Deirdre’s A slot: the bonus Attack and Speed improve Deirdre’s damage capability, as well as her Resistance to complement Divine Naga’s refinement effect. The bonus Resistance also improves the damage of her chosen Special; ideally Iceberg or Glacies. There are other options however: Distant Def and Atk/Res Bond are alternative choices for improved defensive bonuses, or Close Counter is an option to allow Deirdre to combat melee heroes.

Quick Riposte ensures that Deirdre can make follow-up attacks against enemy attackers, and greatly improves her KO potential. This skill is a near necessity, as Deirdre will struggle to deal considerable damage to non-dragon heroes. Alternatively, Deirdre can opt for G Tomebreaker, though Quick Riposte is far more versatile.

For her C and S slot skills, Ploy skills are the natural choice with Deirdre’s stellar Resistance, with access to each type of Ploy. Deirdre has some other solid choices in Brazen Atk/Res or Resistance +3.

  • Assist: Draw Back / Flexible
  • Special: Iceberg / Glacies / Moonbow
  • Passive A: Swift Sparrow / Death Blow / Sturdy Impact / Fury
  • Passive B: Desperation / Chill Res
  • Passive C: Even Attack Wave / Even Speed Wave / Flexible
  • Sacred Seal: Darting Blow / Speed +3

Deirdre is naturally more defensively inclined, but with with right skills in her kit she can be a fearsome offensive unit in her own right. With a +SPD Asset, the bonus stats from Divine Naga, and the bonuses from Swift Sparrow and Darting Blow, Deirdre can reach a respectable 44 Speed upon initiation, without considering external buffs. This serves as the basis of this build.

Swift Sparrow is the ideal choice as it grants an easily accessible bonus to both Attack and Speed. Fury or Death Blow are more budget option, whereas other unconventional choices like Sturdy Impact or Atk/Spd Bond are also worthy contenders. For her B slot, Chill Res or Desperation are the two highlights. Desperation is the more natural choice given its availability and ease of use, though Chill Res will have a greater impact on Deirdre’s damage output. Darting Blow is taken in the S slot: it represents the greatest bonus to Speed that Deirdre can attain in this slot.

The rest of Deirdre’s skills are relatively flexible. Iceberg or Moonbow offer reasonable damage on a short cooldown, and an offensive Wave skill in Deirdre’s C slot can improve her combat if the choice is available.

Introduction

Deirdre makes her appearance as a green infantry mage who excels at neutralising enemy stat bonuses and shutting down enemy mages. Compared to her daughter Julia, Deirdre has higher Speed and Resistance in exchange for lower HP, Attack  and Defense. While Deirdre’s mediocre Speed stat may present this as a poor trade-off, the real difference between the two is their unique refinements to their Naga tomes: with Deirdre’s unique refinement, she can greatly surpass Julia as a mixed phase generalist.

Deirdre’s high Resistance is one of her greatest strengths, especially as it can now grant her a further +3 to all of her combat stats thanks to Divine Naga. With her ability to neutralise all enemy bonuses, utilise a variety of powerful Ploy skills and deal effective damage against dragon heroes, Deirdre can defeat one of the most prominent hero types in the game while wielding respectable offense and defense against other heroes.

With that said, Deirdre’s Defense stat remains pitifully low, and she’ll struggle to take a hit from any foe with high Attack or enough Speed to ensure a follow-up attack. Additionally, Deirdre may fail to achieve Divine Naga’s stat boost against heroes who can match her exceptionally high Resistance, which is possible by many heroes after Spur or Ward skills are stacked, severely hurting her effectiveness. Lastly, while Deirdre is a flexible hero she faces competition from several heroes who can perform an offensive or defensive role more effectively: offensive mages such as Lewyn and Nino (SF) remain the superior choice, whereas Julia threatens Deirdre’s role as a defensive hero.

Strengths

Divine Naga

Deirdre’s standout skill is no doubt her tome: Divine Naga. With its unique refinement, Divine Naga can grant bonus stats to Deirdre while retaining effective damage against dragons and the ability to neutralise enemy stats, which notably affects all types of heroes. All of these assets make Deirdre a flexible and powerful hero.

With its refinement, Deirdre can also gain bonus stats if her Resistance is greater than her foe’s by 3 points, which is easily feasible thanks to her solid base Resistance. Needless to say, Divine Naga is what defines Deirdre as a strong generalist mage and dragon counter.

Great Attack and Resistance

Deirdre boasts a solid Attack stat of 33, though arguably her Resistance stat of 35 is the greater strength. Deirdre’s high Resistance allows her to shrug off magical attacks while providing a strong foundation for Ploy skills and her Divine Naga’s bonus effect.

Weaknesses

Awful Defense

A base Defense of 16 leaves Deirdre vulnerable to any and all physical attack: especially alongside her middling base HP stat of 36. Though Deirdre has the means to improve her Defense through her passive skills and Divine Naga, she’ll struggle to reach any meaningful value that will protect her from the slew of powerful physical attackers she may face.

Poor Combat against Non-dragons

Though her combat ability against dragon heroes is superb, Deirdre’s mediocre Speed stat makes her a poor attacker, as she has to rely on follow-up attacks from skills like G Tomebreaker or Quick Riposte.

Team Options

Deirdre’s ideal partner can improve her Attack or Resistance stats, the latter of which is vital in order to ensure that Deirdre can benefit from the +3 to her combat stats from Divine Naga. Heroes that can improve Deirdre’s Special charge can improve her OHKO potential, and Refresher heroes are naturally helpful. Lastly, blue heroes can check Deirdre’s weakness to red heroes.

  • Buffers: Attack and Resistance buffs are Deirdre’s most wanted buffs. Speed can also be useful if Deirdre can reliably boost her Speed stat through Divine Naga and passive skills.
  • Special Support: Heroes like Legendary Hector or any hero running Infantry Pulse can improve Deirdre’s offense by charging her Special skill more quickly.
  • Refreshers: Refresher heroes can grant Deirdre an additional move, which can be a great asset if she’s running a Player Phase oriented build.
  • Strong Blue Heroes: Blue heroes can support Deirdre by keeping red enemy heroes in check.

Counters

Without the effect of Divine Naga, passive skills and buffs, Deirdre’s middling Speed leaves her quite vulnerable to enemy attacks. Deirdre also has awful Defense, so should beware of any attack from a physical hero as even the weakest blows will take her down. Heroes with high Speed can take advantage of this too, and take Deirdre down with follow-up attacks.

  • Physical Heroes: Deirdre’s Defense is almost beyond salvation, as many high Attack heroes are able to take her down in one hit.
  • Heroes with high Speed: Heroes with high Speed threaten Deirdre considerably: even mages can potentially KO Deirdre with a Special skill despite her high Resistance. This is much more feasible if Deirdre suffers a triangle disadvantage, making mages like Celica, Winter Tharja, and Eirika (SM) possible counters.
  • Strong Red Heroes: Powerful red attackers, including Ike, Zelgius, Ayra and Karla, as well mages with high Attack like Sanaki and Lilina can all threaten Deirdre.
