Show Explanation/Analysis

Weapon: Firesweep Lance+

  • Firesweep Lance is Cynthia’s default weapon and is a very strong offensive tool. This weapon prevents whoever Cynthia attacks from retaliating unless they have a skill such as Null C-Disrupt.

  • This does though come at the cost of Cynthia herself being unable to retaliate when enemies attack her, so her usefulness on enemy phase is non-existent with this weapon.

Assist: Reposition / Shove / Player Preference

Special: Moonbow / Luna

  • Moonbow is a strong choice of Special due to its low cooldown. When used with Heavy Blade, Moonbow can fully charge in a single hit, allowing Cynthia to potentially use it every round of combat so long as she performs a follow-up and activates Heavy Blade.

  • Luna is a stronger version of Moonbow though also has a longer cooldown. It is not as consistent as Moonbow, but is still a good option.

Passive A: Atk/Spd Solo / Swift Sparrow / Life and Death

  • Atk/Spd Solo is an ideal A slot choice which boosts Cynthia’s offensive capabilities significantly whenever she has no adjacent allies.

  • Swift Sparrow is another strong option, giving a lesser offensive boost than Atk/Spd Solo but only requires Cynthia initiating combat.

  • Life and Death is a powerful budget option. It grants a large offensive boost and since Firesweep Lance will block most counterattacks, Cynthia does not need to worry as much about the weaker defensive stats that Life and Death brings.

Passive B: Chill Def / Chill Spd / Hit and Run

  • Chill skills synergise very well with Firesweep weapons, allowing the user to debuff the opponent with the highest in whatever stat the Chill targets. Both Chill Def and Chill Spd are solid options.

  • Hit and Run is a good budget option that moves Cynthia back one space after combat so long as there is room. This potentially allows her to remove herself from danger after an attack or at least make it easier for her allies to get her to safety.

Passive C: Drive Atk / Flier Buff / Player Preference

  • Cynthia comes with Drive Atk by default and there is absolutely no need to swap this skill out unless one wants to. The Attack boost to allies within two spaces has universal application that will rarely not be useful.

  • If she’s on a full flier team, Cynthia can instead opt to use a Flier Buff such as Goad Fliers or Ward Fliers instead.

Sacred Seal: Heavy Blade / Darting Blow

  • Heavy Blade is an excellent Sacred Seal choice that gives Cynthia with extra Special charge per attack whenever she has more Attack than the opponent. This allows her to charge Moonbow in a single hit so long as Heavy Blade activates.

  • Darting Blow is another solid choice, granting Cynthia with a good Speed boost when she initiates combat.

Show Explanation/Analysis

Weapon: Slaying Lance (+Spd) / Slaying Lance (+Atk)

  • Slaying Lance is the strong choice of weapon for a Galeforce centric build thanks to the weapon reducing Galeforce’s cooldown to four. With Slaying Lance and Heavy Blade active, Cynthia will only need two attacks in order to fully charge Galeforce, allowing her to charge it in a single round of combat with Desperation active.

  • Either a Speed or Attack refine will be beneficial. Speed can help Cynthia to secure follow-up attacks while Attack will help with damaging foes and activating Heavy Blade.

Assist: Reposition / Shove / Player Preference

Special: Galeforce

  • Being the central point of the build, Galeforce is the only choice of Special. When charged, Galeforce will allow the user to perform another action after a round of combat once per turn.

  • This is a powerful effect that can be utilized in many different ways. Galeforce allows Cynthia to perform hit and run attacks more easily thanks to being able to retreat after combat, or she could use it to potentially defeat two foes in one round.

Passive A: Atk/Spd Solo / Swift Sparrow / Fury (3 or 4)

  • Atk/Spd Solo is a very strong A slot choice that provides a large offensive boost whenever Cynthia has no adjacent allies.

  • Swift Sparrow is another good option, granting a weaker offensive boost in comparison to Atk/Spd Solo but instead only requiring that Cynthia initiate combat.

  • Fury is a good budget option, granting an overall boost to Cynthia’s stats. Fury 4 is a very expensive skill and is not necessary since Fury 3 is already strong. Still, Fury 4 can be used if one is willing to make the investment.

Passive B: Desperation

  • Desperation is a cheap but powerful B slot skill, allowing Cynthia to make any follow-up attack directly after her first when she’s below 75% HP.

  • As using Heavy Blade means that Cynthia only needs to attack twice to fully charge Galeforce, she can utilize Desperation to keep herself safe while still charging Galeforce.

Passive C: Drive Atk / Flier Buff / Player Preference

  • Drive Atk comes by default on Cynthia and is a strong C slot skill, boosting the Attack of allies within two spaces. Unless one wants to, there is no need to swap out this skill for something else.

  • On a flier team, Cynthia can choose to utilize a Flier Buff instead such as Goad Fliers or Ward Fliers in order to support her fellow flying allies.

Sacred Seal: Heavy Blade

  • As explained, Heavy Blade is necessary if Cynthia wants to charge Galeforce in a single round of combat. As such, it is the only recommended Sacred Seal option.

Introduction

Fear not Summoners, for the true hero of heroes is here! Cynthia joins us as a lance flier obtained for free through her Grand Hero battle. While she is good in her own right, she is, unfortunately, nothing that hasn’t been seen before.

Cynthia sports good stats across the board, not really faulting in one particular area. Her offensive stats are good and allow her to perform well when on the attack. Her defensive stats are not lackluster either. She even comes by default with Firesweep Lance, a highly desirable offensive weapon.

In her own right, Cynthia is a good unit. The problem comes from the oversaturation of her class. Being a lance flier, Cynthia has to compete with tons of other lance fliers, most of which sport very similar stat spreads. Compared to lance fliers such as Catria, Shanna, or Est, Cynthia does nothing to stand out since she lacks a personal weapon that gives her something unique.

Sadly, Cynthia just ends up being another lance flier in the sea of lance fliers that are already available. Unless one has Cynthia as one of their favorite characters, there is very little, if any reason to use her. Regardless, Cynthia is still a good unit and will serve as a good offensive unit if one wishes to use her.

Strengths

Well balanced stats

Cynthia does not necessarily fault in one particular area. Her offensive spread of 32 Attack and 37 Speed is solid and gives her good damage and good follow-up potential. While she isn’t amazing defensively, she does come with a fairly decent 38 HP, 27 Defense, and 29 Resistance which allows her to take a couple of hits before she’s defeated.

Flier

Being a flier, Cynthia gets to enjoy the benefits of enhanced mobility. Fliers can pass through terrain which are impassable to most units such as mountains and water. This lack of terrain restrictions gives her more options for where to move for greater flexibility in battle.

Weaknesses

Just Another Lance Flier

There are many lance fliers to choose from in Fire Emblem Heroes, so being able to set yourself apart from the others in a meaningful way is important. Unfortunately, Cynthia doesn’t do that. Instead, she’s just another lance flier with good offensive and decent defensive stats. As such, she is overshadowed by units such as Catria, Shanna, and Est who all possess personal weapons. Even Shigure, who is very statistically similar to Cynthia, overshadows her since he has access to the IV system and doesn’t require Heroic Grails to acquire extra merge.

Cynthia is not bad, she’s definitely a good unit. However, she cannot be recommended from a practical standpoint over any of the above-mentioned lance fliers. If one wants a lance flier with a stat spread similar to Cynthia, then Shigure is a better option unless one values the extra Resistance Cynthia has.
