Weapon: Gradivus

  • Camus’s lance of choice is his innate Gradivus, as an unconditional Distant Counter weapon is unique among his class type. 

  • With Distant Counter built into his weapon, Camus has the freedom to pick a variety of powerful defensive A slot skills in its place, such as Distant Def 4 and Fort.Def/Res 3.

Assist: Reposition / Preference

Special: Bonfire / Aether 

  • Bonfire is a solid choice of Special for Camus as it has a reasonably quick cooldown and scales well off of his good Defense.

  • Aether is also a good choice to grant Camus more self sustain, although this is hampered by its slow cooldown.

Passive A: Distant Def 4 / Warding Stance 4 / Fort Def/Res 3

  • Distant Def 4 is Camus optimal A slot choice, granting a massive boost to defenses and Nullifying buffs when attacked at range. With this skill, Camus becomes a solid check to ranged units in general, particularly Bladetome users and Mages buffed by Legendary Azura.

  • Warding Stance 4 is also a good A Slot Skill for Camus, significantly increasing his low resistance and granting a Guard-effect against all attacking foes. This improves Camus matchup against Mages and Dragons which would normally pose a great threat to him.

  • Lastly, Fort. Def/Res 3 is another decent A slot option. Although at the cost of 2 attack and Warding Stance 4’s built-in Guard, it grants a Massive +6 to both Defense and Resistance, allowing Camus to tank more damage in general.

Passive B: Mystic Boost / Lull Spd/Def

  • Mystic Boost is a fantastic B slot for Camus, providing great self sustain by restoring 6 HP after combat, as well as nullifying Wrathful Staff and adaptive damage. 

  • Lull Spd/Def is also a solid option as it makes Camus more difficult to outspeed due to its Speed debuff combined with denying the Speed buffs of foes. However, this is somewhat redundant vs ranged units if Distant Def 4 is being run.

Passive C: Atk Smoke / Preference

  • Atk Smoke is a great choice for Camus’s C Slot. Inflicting a -7 Attack debuff to all enemies in 2 spaces, Atk Smoke allows Camus to take less damage when faced with multiple enemies.

  • With other cavalry units, Camus’ innate Goad Cavalry or other Cavalry buffs can be used to great effect.

Sacred Seal: Distant Def / Fierce Stance 

  • Distant Def is an amazing choice of Sacred Seal, granting a sizeable boost to Camus’ ability to tank ranged units. 

  • Fierce Stance is also a good Seal choice, granting a simple boost to damage on the Enemy Phase.

Weapon: Gradivus

  • Camus’s Gradivus is still key for a Vantage based build, relieving the need for Distant Counter as an A slot skill.

Assist: Reposition / Preference

Special: Moonbow / Glimmer

  • For Vantage use, a low cooldown Special is vital to ensure Camus gets as many KO’s as possible. Among them, Moonbow is the standout option for its good Defense reduction, giving Camus an easier time dealing with high Defense foes.

  • For Aether Raids usage, Glimmer can also be a good choice as many AR team compositions rely on frail offensive mages that Moonbow would have little effect on.

Passive A: Fierce Stance / Brazen Atk/Def

  • Fierce Stance is the premier A slot choice for this build as Camus wants as much Attack as possible to ensure Ko’s during the Enemy Phase.

  • If setup is not a concern, Brazen Atk/Def is also a solid choice with the additional benefit of being available at 4 star rarity.

Passive B: Vantage

  • The centerpiece of this build, Vantage allows Camus to attack before his opponent when sufficiently damaged. When combined with Attack boosting skills such as Fierce Stance and support from his allies, Camus can mow down entire groups of enemies and come out completely unscathed.

Passive C: Def Smoke / Preference

  • Def Smoke is the best C slot skill for this build, giving Camus even more damage against enemies afflicted by its debuff.

Sacred Seal: Fierce Stance / Brazen Atk/Def

  • Fierce Stance remains the ideal option in Camus sacred seal slot to maximize his Enemy Phase damage potential.

  • Brazen Atk/Def can be a serviceable alternative, although running Brazen in both Camus A slot and Sacred Seal is not recommended due to its unreliability.

Introduction

As the leader of the Sable Knights and one of the most powerful warriors in the world of Archanea, Camus has quite a reputation to live up to. However, his stats are painfully average with a good Defense of 31 and a Mediocre 32/33 offensive spread, hampered further by a lack of IV’s. Based on stats alone, Camus is handily outdone by other lance cavaliers such as NY Laegjarn and Finn.

What sets Camus apart is his Legendary Gradivus. Granting him the effect of Distant Counter, Camus has the ability to combine Distant Counter with a variety of Powerful A slots, such as Distant Def 4 and Fort. Def/Res 3. This ability is uncontested among lance cavaliers aside from Fallen Berkut(whose Distant Counter is conditional), and allows Camus to be a great competitor in a defensive role, especially among his class type.

Unfortunately, the Sable Knight has his fair share of problems. Firstly, Camus’s Resistance is stuck at a horrific 17 base, making matchups with mages and dragons dangerous without support. In addition, Camus’s mediocre statline is a detriment as it leaves him forced into Gradivus usage to remain relevant. Finally, Being a Cavalier has its fair share of drawbacks as well, including a weakness to Cavalry effective weapons and Trenches. Overall, Camus is a strong lance cavalier when taking advantage of his unique weapon, but elsewhere he falls short of what one would expect from his reputation.

Strengths

Gradivus

Granting Distant Counter without the use of his A slot, Gradivus is what sets Camus apart from the rest of his peers. The ability to utilize powerful A slot skills while retaining the ability to counterattack at range unconditionally is something that no other lance cavalier possesses, letting Camus serve as a solid counter to ranged units with skills such as Distant Def 4 or Warding Stance 4 in his A slot.

Cavalry

Being a Cavalier grants Camus much greater mobility as well as access to the powerful cavalry buffs.

Weaknesses

Terrible Resistance

At only 17 base, Camus’s Resistance is simply terrible. While Camus can counteract this weakness somewhat with skills such as Distant Def 4, his low Resistance greatly hampers his ability to check mages and makes his matchup with dragons difficult.

Cavalry

Being a Cavalier comes with a weakness to Cavalry effective weaponry, in addition to severe terrain penalties when faced with forests and trenches.

Expensive to Build

Taking full advantage of Gradivus requires investing several 5* locked skills into Camus, which is a luxury not many players can afford.
