IV Sets

Key stats worth increasing through nature if possible.
Complementary stats that matter, but not to the point of picking them over key stats for nature increase.
Relatively worthless stat that can safely be decreased through nature.
HPATKSPDDEFRES

Assets

  • +ATK: Attack is a great choice of boon for Byleth, who will often get follow-up attacks and have many chances to damage foes.

  • +SPD: Speed is Byleth’s best boon, giving her an increase of +4 and helps her in winning critical Speed matchups. Speed is essential for Byleth’s offense and defense, and is her most important stat.

Neutral

  • HP: HP helps to protect Byleth from both physical and magical assaults, making it a key defensive stat. A flaw in HP reduces the stat by four, making it undesirable.

  • DEF: Defense is neither here nor there for Byleth, but does help in the majority of her matchups. Byleth has naturally good defense, but a flaw in Defense won’t make much of a difference overall.

Flaws

  • -RES: Resistance is Byleth’s least important stat, and the best choice for a flaw. She does not excel at tanking magical damage and losing some Resistance does little to hurt her game plan.

Skill Sets

Recommended
Creator Sword A Distant Counter
Alternate: Flashing Blade 4
Rally Atk/Spd+
Alternate: Reposition
B Lull Spd/Def 3
Alternate: Null C-Disrupt 3
Luna
Alternate: Ruptured Sky
C Even Atk Wave 3
SP2070SChill Spd 3
Alternate: Atk/Res Bond 3

Show Explanation/Analysis

Preferred Asset/Flaw: +SPD or +ATK / -RES

  • Speed is the preferred Asset, no questions asked. However, Speed is redundant on Byleth over a certain point, so Attack is better against slower units.

Weapon: Creator Sword

  • Byleth’s Creator Sword contains practically half her build. It gives her the ability to shut down many skills and perform reliably no matter the opposition.

  • The Special acceleration is very important and opens up three turn Specials such as Luna and Draconic Aura as options.

Assist: Rally Atk/Spd+ / Reposition

  • Team buffs are great on any unit, and Byleth is no exception. However, Reposition is a cheap, effective staple which is better if team buffs are already provided.

  • This slot is flexible and can be replaced with a skill befitting personal preference.

Special: Luna / Ruptured Sky

  • Luna is the best Special for Byleth, allowing her to cut through high-defense enemies such as Surtr. She can charge it very quickly thanks to her Creator Sword.

  • Ruptured Sky is weaker overall, has unreliable scaling, and is weaker against harder to defeat enemies.

  • It can be stronger against Dragons and Beasts but these enemies usually have high Defense, meaning that Luna is also effective against them.

Passive A: Distant Counter / Flashing Blade / Fury 4

  • Distant Counter gives irreplaceable defensive merit, allowing her to defeat units on the defensive.

  • Flashing Blade is a great ability for Byleth, giving her some extra damage and fast-charging her Special. She is almost guaranteed to have more Speed than her opponent thanks to Lull Spd/Def.

  • Fury is an acceptable budget option, coming for free and giving Byleth some valuable bulk.

Passive B: Lull Spd/Def / Null C-Disrupt / Windsweep

  • All three of these options should be given equal consideration, as they are almost on par with each other and depend mostly on the situation.

  • Lull Spd/Def is perfect for Byleth, denying her enemy just the right stats and allowing her to negate even more. This is her best "general" option.

  • Null C-Disrupt allows Byleth to counterattack Firesweep and Dazzling Staff users, increasing the types of units she can counter. It's good when using Byleth defensively with Distant Counter. Her ability to run Null C-Disrupt alongside Null Follow-Up (granted by Creator Sword) gives Byleth a very valuable niche in modes like Aether Raids.

  • Windsweep still allows Byleth to get follow-ups thanks to her Creator Sword. This is her best bet offensively and a fantastic option for Aether Raid Defense.

Passive C: Even Atk Wave

  • C slot is Flexible and will depend on teammates.

  • However, Even Atk Wave comes naturally on Byleth and is a great choice.

Seal: Chill Spd / Chill Atk / Atk/Res Bond

  • Chill Spd is the optimal choice, but can be overkill depending on the Speed levels of the enemy.

  • Chill Atk is an excellent secondary choice and will often target units dangerous to Byleth.

  • Atk/Res Bond is a reliable defensive alternative that helps Byleth survive magical damage.

Thought Control (Offensive Galeforce)

Creator Sword A Swift Sparrow 3
Alternate: Fury 4
Rally Atk/Spd+
Alternate: Reposition
B Windsweep 3
Galeforce C Even Atk Wave 3
SP2400SFlashing Blade 3

Show Explanation/Analysis

Preferred Asset/Flaw: +SPD or +ATK / -RES

  • Attack is slightly better than Speed on this set, due to the fact Byleth attacks four times and can't rely on direct damaging Specials.

  • Speed is almost just as good and allows for more reliable use of Flashing Blade.

Weapon: Creator Sword

  • Creator Sword gives Byleth some Special acceleration which is required to charge Galeforce in two hits.

  • It's ability to ignore Guard makes Byleth much more reliable than other Galeforce users.

  • It forms a deadly combination with Windsweep since it allows Byleth to get follow-up attacks no matter what.

Special: Galeforce

  • Galeforce is the crux of this set, allowing Byleth to move again or attack a second time.

  • It makes her tricky to deal with on Aether Raid Defense.

Passive A: Swift Sparrow / Fury 4

  • Swift Sparrow grants Byleth the biggest combination of Attack and Speed when attacking.

  • Fury is free on Byleth and an excellent budget choice.

Passive B: Windsweep

  • Windsweep prevents foes from counterattacking, and with her Creator Sword still allows Byleth to get follow-up attacks.

  • This unique combination of skills makes Byleth almost guaranteed to survive combat and activate Galeforce.

Passive C: Even Atk Wave

  • C slot is Flexible and will depend on teammates.

  • However, Even Atk Wave comes naturally on Byleth and is a great choice.

Seal: Flashing Blade

  • This is Byleth's second form of Special acceleration, and allows her to activate Galeforce after just one round of combat.

  • This can be technically taken in Byleth's A slot, but since there are much stronger stat boosters available there, it is much better to equip Flashing Blade as her seal.

Dark Sarcasm in the Classroom (Wrath Sweeper)

Creator Sword A Distant Counter
Alternate: Fury 4
Rally Atk/Spd+
Alternate: Reposition
B Wrath 3
Moonbow
Alternate: Ruptured Sky
C Even Atk Wave 3
SP1830SChill Atk 3
Alternate: Atk/Spd Bond 3

Show Explanation/Analysis

Preferred Asset/Flaw: +SPD or +ATK / -RES

  • Speed and Attack are both just about as good as each other on this set.

Weapon: Creator Sword

  • Creator Sword gives Byleth some Special acceleration and the useful ability to ignore Guard.

  • The Special acceleration combines with Wrath to give Byleth instant two-turn Specials.

Special: Moonbow / Ruptured Sky

  • Moonbow is the best Special for Byleth thanks to its short cooldown and scaling against hard to OHKO enemies.

  • Ruptured Sky is slightly weaker and has unreliable scaling, but is stronger against beasts and dragons.

Passive A: Distant Counter / Fury 4

  • Distant Counter allows Byleth to beat a wider range of opponents such as mages and archers. However, it does not help much once Byleth is below Wrath threshold.

  • Fury is cheaper and makes Byleth much stronger overall. The self-damage also helps Byleth reach her desired HP range.

Passive B: Wrath

  • Wrath enables Byleth to initiate with a charged Special once per turn, and significantly powers up her Special activations.

Passive C: Even Atk Wave

  • C slot is Flexible and will depend on teammates.

  • However, Even Atk Wave comes naturally on Byleth and is a great choice.

Seal: Chill Atk / Atk/Spd Bond

  • Chill Atk is a fantastic choice, helping Byleth survive against foes who she can’t OHKO with a Wrath-boosted Special.

  • Atk/Spd Bond is a solid alternative when playing defensively. It’s particularly strong when Byleth chooses Distant Counter for her A slot skill.

Introduction

Byleth: Proven Professor is among the first of the Three Houses units released in Fire Emblem Heroes. Female Byleth sticks true to her teacher theme, with many useful effects and abilities included within her Creator Sword. Her greatest strengths are her exceptional offenses and ability to shut down enemy builds with her personal weapon. Safe to say, she can hand out painful lessons to almost any enemy.

With base 34 Attack and 40 Speed, Byleth slots into the highest ranks of offensive swords. She can go toe to toe with some of the fastest units in the game. Byleth’s personal weapon, the Creator Sword, has many useful effects. It accelerates her Specials, nullifies Fighter skills, and makes her immune to effects of Guard.

With both offensive and defensive merit, Byleth has many build paths. Although she’s not at the absolute pinnacle of offense or defense she can perform both roles very well, even on the same build. These factors make Byleth much more reliable than other units, and enable her to focus down and get the job done no matter what is thrown at her.

Strengths

Excellent offensive stats.

Byleth’s base 34 Attack is great, but where she really shines is in her Speed. Clocking in at 40, it can be increased to base 44 with an asset. Combined with the effects of her Creator Sword which negates automatic follow-ups, Byleth can outduel her opponents by forcing them into losing the Speed battle.

Is versatile and reliable.

While fellow top-tier swords such as Mareeta are somewhat railroaded down an offensive pathway, Byleth has the ability to build in a much more freeform way. This is largely due to her Creator Sword, which negates Wary Fighter, Special Fighter, Swordbreaker, Heavy Blade, Guard, Quick Riposte and many other skills. Many builds designed to counter other swords fall flat in front of Byleth.

Is difficult to KO.

Since foes cannot automatically get follow-up attacks, and her Speed is so high, this means Byleth is one of, if not the hardest unit to get a follow-up attacks on. This in turn gives her a surprising amount of defensive merit despite her average defensive stats. Creator Sword also blocks skills that accelerate Specials, meaning foes who rely on them also find Byleth tough to KO.

Weaknesses

Relies heavily on her Speed.

While Byleth is among the fastest units, there are plenty who can match her Speed. Enemies who can outspeed Byleth or reduce her Speed can beat her. She is very likely to be hit by Chill Spd, and she is not immune to the effects of Brave weapons, including Dire Thunder.

Low Resistance.

With just 61 base magical bulk, Byleth is weak to mages and dragons. And although she can prevent many follow up attacks, she is still prone to being OHKO’d. Byleth must also watch out for the occasional Ploy Skill, which are very likely to affect her.
