Assets

  • +ATK: Brave Micaiah hits like a missile with her 4-point Attack Superasset, bringing the stat to a fantastic 41. It is easily her most preferred option, and synergizes best with Light of Dawn's effective damage against cavalry and armored foes.

  • +SPD: Her 28 Speed may seem mediocre, though she can actually be unexpectedly fast—in combat against an enemy inflicted by Yune's Whispers, Light of Dawn grants Brave Micaiah an additional +6 Speed, resulting in a total +12 Speed swing, and effectively bringing her Speed to 40, even without any other buffs. As such, a Speed Asset isn't all that poor an Asset choice, though may be a lower priority than Attack. At the very least, avoiding her 4-point Superflaw in Speed is generally a good idea.

  • +RES: A Resistance Asset is a good boost to her ability to tank magic damage, and can assist in potentially landing Yune's Whispers even on other magic tanks. She also isn't all that afraid of drawing skills such as Chill Res if she is using Atk/Res Bond 4.

Flaws

  • DEF: With just 53 physical bulk at full health, Micaiah already lacks the ability to withstand most physical attackers and adaptive damage users, and a Defense Flaw will generally have the least overall impact on her performance.

  • HP: A secondary option to a -DEF Flaw. Though this also slightly hurts her magical bulk, it's a marginal difference, and may even be a better option if one wishes to try and salvage her Defense through skills such as Def Ploy or Blessings in Aether Raids.

Show Explanation/Analysis

Preferred IV: +ATK or +SPD or +RES / -DEF or -HP

  • Brave Micaiah will want either a boost to her offenses or a boost to her Resistance, as she acts as both a potent attacker and a magical tank.

Weapon: Light of Dawn

  • A powerful Prf weapon that grants her the same cavalry and armor effectiveness as previously seen on her normal and Hoshidan Summer versions, in addition to an effect that allows her to heavily boost her stats with enemy debuffs. Together these effects allow her to simultaneously dish out heavy damage and brush off magic damage.

Assist: Reposition / Sacrifice

  • Reposition is the go-to assist for fliers, granting exceptional mobility options to her team.

  • Sacrifice can be a useful skill sometimes, but it is far less consistently useful than a mobility assist. Generally its best applications will be for scoring and supporting in Arena-like modes.

Special: Iceberg / Glimmer

  • Iceberg acts as a huge burst of damage thanks to Brave Micaiah's large Resistance stat.

  • If one prefers something that activates quicker, Glimmer is the best choice, synergizing well with her high Attack and effective damage.

Passive A: Atk/Res Bond

  • Very welcome stats useful for both attacking and tanking, and also makes Brave Micaiah immune to effects such as Chill Atk and Chill Res.

Passive B: Yune's Whispers

  • Brave Micaiah's high Resistance along with some smart AI manipulation can make this skill very easy activate, and grants Micaiah a massive +6/+12/+6/+6 Atk/Spd/Def/Res Swing on her opponents thanks to Light of Dawn.

Passive C: Ground Orders / Def Ploy / Res Ploy / Even Atk Wave

  • Ground Orders grants a plethora of mobility options to her and her team, along units to easily position all around each other in an extreme number of ways when paired with further mobility Assist skills like Reposition and Swap. This is exceptionally useful when used with Armored allies who normally struggle with positioning.

  • For those who'd prefer a combat-relevant C skill, Def Ploy can be used alongside a Res Ploy Sacred Seal to enable her to debuff all four enemy stats at the same time, and in this case, granting her additional physical bulk

  • Res Ploy can also be used here if not chosen as a Sacred Seal

  • A buffing skill such as Even Atk Wave can also be used to stack more Attack on top of that granted by her Weapon & B slot combo.

Sacred Seal: Res Ploy / Atk/Res Bond / Spd/Res Bond / Acrobatics

  • A debuff from Res Ploy grants Brave Micaiah not just 5 extra damage but also 5 extra magical bulk thanks to Light of Dawn. Thankfully, Ploy skills are notably easiest to aim as a flying unit.

  • Atk/Res Bond can end up granting the same effective stats as Res Ploy, but with a completely different activation condition, and of course only affecting herself her. The choice is largely preferential and may depend on available resources. Spd/Res Bond is a similar alternative.

  • Acrobatics is a strong mobility tool that works well alongside her native Ground Orders—this allows both her and her allies to teleport around each other with astounding flexibility.

「KILLER QUEEN」 (Player Phase Nuker)

Light of Dawn A Death Blow (3 or 4)
Alternate: Swift Sparrow (2 or 3)
Reposition
Alternate: Sacrifice
B Yune's Whispers
Glimmer
Alternate: Moonbow
C Res Ploy 3
Alternate: Even Atk Wave 3
SP1335SHeavy Blade 3
Alternate: Sturdy Blow 2

Show Explanation/Analysis

Preferred IV: +ATK or +SPD / -DEF or -HP

  • An Asset in Attack is prioritized to allow Brave Micaiah to dish out the most Player Phase damage. A Speed boon is not that bad either, but she will usually be aiming to one-shot when possible.

Weapon: Light of Dawn

  • A great offensive weapon with its dual effectiveness and stat boosting ability.

Assist: Reposition / Sacrifice

Special: Glimmer / Moonbow

  • With such high Attack and two types of effective damage, Brave Micaiah will get significant mileage out of Glimmer.

Passive A: Death Blow / Swift Sparrow / Sturdy Impact or Mirror Impact

  • Death Blow 4 gives her the most possible Attack on Player Phase, though Death Blow 3 will be the most accessible option.

  • Swift Sparrow 3 provides the same Attack boost as Death Blow 3, on top of additional Speed that can turn Brave Micaiah into an unexpectedly speedy unit when paired alongside Yune's Whispers' debuff and Light of Dawn's boost.

  • Sturdy Impact and Mirror Impact are more-defensive premium alternatives, also providing the same Attack boost as Death Blow 3, on top of extra bulk and a prevention of enemy follow-ups. Sturdy Impact in particularly would be best as it will greatly improve her ability to initiate on defensive dragons who will hit back against Brave Micaiah's Defense stat and often pack follow-up skills.

Passive C: Res Ploy / Even Atk Wave

  • An offensive Brave Micaiah very much appreciates a C skill that boosts her damage potential. Res Ploy grants her the biggest benefit alongside her weapon.

  • An Atk Wave skill can be used to just directly buff herself, but will only activate every other turn.

Sacred Seal: Heavy Blade / Sturdy Blow / Res Ploy

  • Heavy Blade is a powerful tool alongside Glimmer or Moonbow, as she should very often be able to fulfil it's two cooldown every attack she makes. This will allow her to activate her Special on her second hit when she doules, or if she one-shots her target, she'll have it ready for her next initiation.

  • Sturdy Blow can be used a straight Player Phase stat boost.

  • Res Ploy remains an option here when not used as a Sacred Seal.

「RAY OF LIGHT」 (Aether Raids Magic Tank)

Light of Dawn A Mirror Stance 2
Alternate: Fury (3 or 4)
Reposition
Alternate: Sacrifice
B Yune's Whispers
Noontime
Alternate: Sol
C Pulse Smoke 3
Alternate: Res Smoke 3
SP1545SResistance +3
Alternate: Fierce Stance 3

Show Explanation/Analysis

Preferred IV: +RES or +ATK / -HP or -SPD

  • More Resistance for tanking and more Attack for killing are Brave Micaiah's greatest options on a defensive Aether Raids build.

Weapon: Light of Dawn

  • The high frequency of offensive cavalry and defensive armor units in Aether Raids make this a fantastic anti-meta weapon to be placed on a counterpick team.

  • How else will you defeat that defenseless armor unit left locked in the back corner of the map?

Assist: Reposition / Sacrifice

Special: Noontime / Sol

  • Healing Specials like Noontime and Sol are critically important sustain tools for an AR tank—many defense setups force the player to tank multiple units in one turn, and these are one of the only ways to restore health on Enemy Phase amidst successive combats.

Passive A: Mirror Stance / Fury

  • Though Micaiah's default Atk/Res Bond 4 is a fantastic skill, generally it is best to avoid Bond skills on tanks in Aether Raids as it is unsafe to keep allies adjacent to one's frontline tank. Multiple reasons for this exist, including the potential risk of snipes due to singers/dancers, usage of AoE-Specials, and prevalence of skills that penalize adjacent allies such as Aversa's Night, Sabotage Res, Sudden Panic, and even Brave Micaiah's own Yune's Whispers.

  • Because of all this (and because Fliers lack access to most other powerful defensive A skills), Brave Micaiah's best options will be rather basic options like Mirror Stance and the ol' reliable Fury.

  • Mirror Stance's lack of recoil and higher values make it the better choice in a vacuum, but Fury's added out-of-combat Resistance give it a worthwhile niche in helping Brave Micaiah resist AoE Specials and effects like Yune's Chaos Named.

Passive B: Yune's Whispers

  • A powerful option in Aether Raids where many defensive setups contain several adjacent enemies.

  • It may also end up screwing with the composition of teams utilizing a healer with Restore, potentially granting her team a new opening.

Passive C: Pulse Smoke / Res Smoke / Res Ploy

  • Pulse Smoke is a rather expensive though exceptionally powerful defensive tool in Aether Raids for shutting down mage-heavy setups, which often rely on Special-accelerating tools like Infantry Pulse and heavy Special damage from units such as Ophelia, Sonya, and Lilina.

  • Res Smoke and Res Ploy are alternative options to grant her a boost to both her damage output and her magical bulk. Both come with their own situation disadvantage—while Res Smoke won't be able to target her initial foe, Res Ploy may be difficult to line up while baiting in Aether Raids.

Sacred Seal: Resistance +3 / Fierce Stance / Distant Def / Res Ploy

  • A basic Resistance +3 Sacred Seal can be used to boost the effectiveness of Yune's Whispers and her resistance against both magic attacks and AoE Specials.

  • Fierce Stance and Distant Def (or Warding Stance) grant her either added Attack or added bulk respectively  when she is initiated, which may vary in effectiveness based on her current team support.

  • Res Ploy again remains an option when no other Res debuff skill is on her C slot.

「SKYLINE PIGEON」 (Aether Raids CC Vantage)

Light of Dawn A Close Counter
Reposition
Alternate: Sacrifice
B Vantage 3
Glimmer C Atk Smoke 3
SP1635SBrazen Atk/Def 3
Alternate: Brazen Atk/Spd 3

Show Explanation/Analysis

Preferred IV: +ATK / -HP or -DEF or -SPD

  • As a Clouse Counter + Vantage user, Micaiah wants to prioritise her Attack above all else.

Weapon: Light of Dawn

  • Light of Dawn's dual effectiveness and stat boosting ability make Micaiah a powerful Vantage user for Aether Raids. This set should primarily be used only when the two classes she is effective against make up all or most of the enemy composition.

  • If being used in Astra Season alongside Naga, Brave Micaiah can also add Dragon effectiveness to that list, resulting in three different types of effectiveness.

Assist: Reposition / Sacrifice

  • Sacrifice can sometimes be useful as an alternate avenue into Vantage range, though may be less-consistent overall than Reposition as it will certainly not always be helpful.

Special: Glimmer

  • A low-cooldown Special is desired here so that it is accessible as frequently as possible, as one too many failures to KO can quickly lead to death.

Passive A: Close Counter

Passive B: Vantage

  • Brave Micaiah can fill the same role often fulfilled by her standard infantry version, utilizing her high nuking ability and Close Counter + Vantage to bait and sweep unprepared teams.

  • As is typical with Vantage strategies, the user must always remember to be very wary of Hardy Bearing users, Hoshidan Summer Micaiah's Dawn Suzu, the remaining Festival in Hoshido daggers, and Firesweep weapons, as they will break Brave Micaiah's ability to Vantage sweep.

Passive C: Atk Smoke

  • Without Yune's Whispers, Brave Micaiah will want Atk Smoke to apply Attack debuffs on as many targets as possible. This boosts both her damage as well as her physical bulk that can help her initially get into Vantage range.

Sacred Seal: Brazen Atk/Def / Brazen Atk/Spd

  • Brazen Sacred Seals naturally synergize best with Vantage. Attack will always be the priority, though the second stat is flexible. Defense can help her live a mistake versus a physical enemy or dragon, while Speed may instead be useful for granting some extra Player Phase potential, should she need it.

Introduction

The female winner of the 3rd Choose Your Legends event, Brave Micaiah makes her way into Fire Emblem Heroes this time as a green mage, thus finally completing the trinity by bringing her apparently-trademarked "cavalry and armor effective" tome effect to all three magic colors. She also levitates for some reason! Her appearance would make one think it's a power granted by Yune, but her quotes make it seem as if she is completely unaware of Yune's presence, so perhaps we will never know the true reason why…

Compared to previous incarnations, Brave Micaiah actually remains quite similar. Her general stat spread remains the same, boasting great Attack and Resistance, and fairly middling everything else. This time however, the primary effect on her tome, Light of Dawn, is that each of her stats gains a bonus equal to the current debuffs on her opponent's respective stats. Though fairly good alone, this stands out primarily due to the effect of the bonus exclusive skill she was granted for winning CYL, Yune's Whispers. A map-wide effect, Yune's Whispers inflicts Atk/Spd -6 on any enemy that is adjacent to another enemy and at least 3 lower Resistance than her, similar to a theoretical "Sabotage Atk/Spd" skill. This effect is quite easy to land, and most notably, grants a fairly strong +6/+12/+6/+6 Atk/Spd/Def/Res swing to Brave Micaiah in tandem with Light of Dawn. This can transform her offensive Atk/Spd into an effective 57/40, which is a significant step up from the exclusively poor and middling Speed stats that Micaiah has featured thus far.

Overall, Brave Micaiah is generally considered the most popular free pick for CYL3. Her double effectiveness grants her fantastic "anti-meta" capabilities, and with her base kit alone she boasts fantastic matchups against many of the most popular offensive threats seen in Aether Raids at the time of her release, such as Ophelia, and the myriad of armored tanks that fill high-level Arena. Her flier class also grants her access to flexible mobility skills such as her native Ground Orders, which in tandem with her high offensive power can greatly assist in completing difficult PvE challenges such as Abyssal-difficulty Legendary Hero Battle maps. With high flexibility and many practical uses across the game, Brave Micaiah is certain to prove to players she deserved her spot as CYL3's female champion.

Strengths

Light of Dawn

Brave Micaiah's most standout asset is her exclusive weapon, Light of Dawn. First and perhaps most importantly, it is a magical weapon that carries effectiveness against both cavalry and armored foes, just like both the original Micaiah's Thani and Hoshidan Summer Micaiah's Dawn Suzu. Effectiveness is one of the largest sources of damage multiplication in the entire game, easily beating traits such as triangle advantages, and one of the most consistent ways to secure a winning matchup. Having effectiveness against two of the four movement types in the game ensures that Brave Micaiah will always retain positive matchups against at least a moderate portion of both the existing cast and cast and future released heroes.

Aside from its effectiveness, Light of Dawn's primary effect is the granting of a bonus to each one of her stats equal to the current debuffs on her opponent's respective stat. This effect gives Brave Micaiah a simple avenue to padding each one of her stats, easily allowing her to make up for any statline weaknesses as are necessary for her current role. Overall, Light of Dawn is an incredibly versatile and impactful weapon with numerous potential applications.

Yune's Whispers

Her exclusive B slot skill, Yune's Whispers, is another powerful asset practically designed to synergize with Light of Dawn. The skill inflicts Atk/Spd-6 on any foe that is adjacent to another foe and has at least 3 less Resistance than her. It is very similar to the "Sabotage" family of skills, but most notably affects two stats. Thanks to Light of Dawn, these debuffs alone result in a total stat differential of +6/+12/+6/+6 Atk/Spd/Def/Res to Brave Micaiah whenever she is in combat against a foe debuffed by Yune's Whispers, a fairly large swing considering this is all without even applying any buffs to Brave Micaiah herself.

Incredible Nuking Power

Micaiah's high base 37 Attack (or 41 with an Asset), alongside her ability to pad her Attack with Light of Dawn, utilize strong offensive A slot skills, and perform effective damage on all cavalry and armored units make Brave Micaiah a devastating offensive nuker. She will easily find herself one-shot-KOing the majority of targets whom her tome is effective against, and many more if their Resistances are not up to par.

Anti-Meta Capabilities

Brave Micaiah's high Resistance and double effectiveness make give her very strong counter to many popular strategies employed in FEH's competitive modes. Armored units are extraordinarily prevalent in top-tier Arena and Arena Assault, as their high Base Stat Totals make them some of the best candidates for obtaining high scores, and Brave Micaiah can easily tear holes in such teams. Additionally, Yune's Whispers and Sacrifice also give her good potential as a support unit to enable bonus allies. Cavalry and armored units are also rather prevalent in Aether Raids, as are powerful offensive magical units such as Ophelia, Reinhardt, and Brave Veronica, whom Brave Micaiah can easily combat thanks to her Resistance.

Ready-to-Go Base Kit

Brave Micaiah follows the trend of ready-out-of-the-box new units that come with a fully strong and synergistic kit that doesn't require much replacement. Though she lacks a Special, her best options are fairly cheap and common. The only piece of her kit that may require replacement is her Assist, as Sacrifice has varying usefulness compared to a mobility-based Assist.

Weaknesses

Physically Frail

Her most obvious flaw, Brave Micaiah's 36 HP and 17 Defense result in a fairly weak 53 total physical bulk when at full HP, which is low enough that she can find herself being one-hit KO'd even in triangle-neutral matchups. She does have the potential to try and make up for it—her physical bulk raises to an effective 59 when a foe is afflicted by Yune's Whispers, and this could further be boosted by applying Defense debuffs to her opponent and Defense buffs to herself, but in general she will be playing a very from-behind game in trying to remedy this.

Vulnerable to Refreshers

Because she is very physically fail and because the majority of her stat padding stems from inflicted debuffs, Brave Micaiah ends up quite susceptible to the actions of enemy refreshers, as the effects of Sing and Dance will also purge all single-turn debuffs placed onto the opponent. Thus, Brave Micaiah will usually end up relatively weaker when facing a refreshed enemy, and may also end up becoming the sudden target of a thought-to-be-out-of-range physical enemy that may potentially one-shot-KO her.

Limited Combat Skill Access

Though being a flier does grant Brave Micaiah flexible mobility and access to powerful mobility tools such as Ground Orders and Acrobatics, it also restricts her from many high-impact offensive and defensive combat-oriented skills. Many of the most premium Special acceleration skills such as Breath skills, Flashing Blade, Special Spiral, Infantry Pulse, and Time's Pulse are all restricted from fliers. She also lacks access to other high-end combat-oriented skills like Bonus Doubler and Null C-Disrupt, which are covered tools for tanks in Aether Raids. Lack of access to the later skill is particularly unfortunate, as Brave Micaiah would certainly love the opportunity to tank and counterattack prevalent staff units like Brave Veronica that she would otherwise be perfect at countering.
