IV Sets

Key stats worth increasing through nature if possible.
Complementary stats that matter, but not to the point of picking them over key stats for nature increase.
Relatively worthless stat that can safely be decreased through nature.

Attack increasing is his most valuable boon for every build to compensate his poor base attack. A speed boon is also decent, allowing him to reach 30 speed which while not high enough to double anything, can helps him avoid being doubled by units up to 34 speed.

While his resistance is terrible, it is not worth to lower it since most tank builds require him to tank magical attacks from blue mages. HP is the easiest stat to dump because it is so high already, and it can be fixed easily with the HP increasing seal.

Boey's lack of speed and strong defenses make him a great choice for a Raven tome build. With this setup he can easily tank and revenge kill blue mages, including the dreaded Reinhardt. He is also adept at slaying archers such as Brave Lyn, thanks to his excellent defense which combined with the Distant Def seal, gives him an effective 38 before Triangle Adept is factored in.

If you feel that Boey is tanky enough, you can instead give him the Quickened Pulse seal. This will accelerate his special cooldown, and allow him to activate Bonfire on the first round of combat, even if his foe fails to attack him twice.

For best results with this set, make sure that Boey has maximum support level with the ally standing next to him, and have them kitted out with as many Spur skills as possible. With only one ally, Boey is a formidable foe with a Gronnowl in hand, and can be buffed to insane levels. Attack and Spur skills are the best to go with this set, as he is already defensive enough. Consider giving Boey's ally a Dual Rally skill for even higher buffs. This set is a great way to make use of a speed boon Boey, and the set can be played either offensively or defensively.

High physical bulk

  • Sporting an extremely high 43 HP and 32 defense, Boey is one of the physically tankiest mages in the game.
  • This allows him to be an extremely potent user of Raven tome, and can take on many melee units, unlike most of his mage counterparts.


Offensively weak

  • 27 speed with 29 attack on neutral are mediocre for offensive purposes.
  • He needs to rely on A slot skills a lot to improve his damage potential.

Low resistance

  • Boey has pretty bad resistance and is not a strong duelist against mages, even against some blue mages.

Team Options

As a tanky mage, he prefers to have supportive allies around him to heal and buff him so he can stay on the frontline effectively. His best build being Triangle Adept Raven tome means he also does little damage and dies from pretty much all red units, thus any allies that can take care of those for him are greatly appreciated.

  • Ephraim / Ninian / Azura / Sharena: These blue units are not only strong supporters thanks to buffs and dance ability, they also serve as very strong coverage for Boey as they can deal with most red units.
  • Lucina / Alm / Marth / Chrom: These Falchion users can build Swordbreaker to handle swords, deal with red/green dragons well and can heal Boey fast with Reciprocal Aid + Renewal. Boey also handles most blue units well which means he compliments them well.
  • Nowi / Camus (to be released): These blue units can counter from range, and they can kill any red mages which are Boey's biggest counter.
  • Reinhardt / Linde / Olwen / Ursula / Spring Lucina: Strong blue mages capable of brute forcing any red units with little difficulty.


Basically red magical units are his biggest counters thanks to his terrible resistance. Aside from that most of his fellow green mages are capable of outdueling him since he has terrible resistance and speed. Notable ones include:

  • Tharja / Lilina / Sanaki / Sophia / Leo / Celica: Just stay away from them.
  • Ike / Xander / Ryoma: He doesn't deal enough damage to kill them, and he dies from their counter attack most of the time.
  • Julia / Nino / Soren / Spring Camilla / Cecilia: They have enough firepower to kill him and/or often carry Green Tomebreaker.
  • Tiki Young: She's tanky and she deals magic damage.
