Attack increasing is his most valuable boon for every build to compensate his poor base attack. A speed boon is also decent, allowing him to reach 30 speed which while not high enough to double anything, can helps him avoid being doubled by units up to 34 speed.
While his resistance is terrible, it is not worth to lower it since most tank builds require him to tank magical attacks from blue mages. HP is the easiest stat to dump because it is so high already, and it can be fixed easily with the HP increasing seal.

Boey is one of the best Raven tome users in the game, thanks to his ridiculous HP and defense. With this setup he has enough damage to kill neutral Kagero on retaliation with an attack increasing boon/banes, and his obscene physical bulk allows him to tank two of her hits without dying. It is a simple but very effective build for him.
Bonfire is his best special, thanks to his high defense and Boey's speed not being enough to make use of longer charge specials.
Triangle Adept is the best skill on this build, as without it he won't survive both blue mages like Reinhardt/Linde and importantly, Kagero. Distant Def can serve as a decent alternative with the added bonus of not being countered by Cancel Affinity.
B slot is interesting. B Tomebreaker is fantastic thanks to how popular blue mages are, making him a strong budget Julia. With B Tomebreaker he can even tank Blarblade Linde with two buffs on her, and kill in retaliation. Reinhardt is also a non-problem as he won't be able to one-shot Boey even with Hone and Goad Cavalry.
Quick Riposte is decent as a substitution as it allows him to kill every variation of Jeorge and Klein as well as resistance increasing/HP Takumi in one turn, but he loses the ability to tank Linde.
Lancebreaker offers him the ability to one round lance users. However it's worth noting that no lance users would be able to scratch him with his high defense and 40% triangle advantage, so you'll always win against them no matter what.
The C Slot is flexible, and you can use whichever your team is lacking. Threaten Spd is not a bad example, as it prevents him from being doubled a lot of the time.

Boey can serve as a frontline unit really well, especially with his shiny tome Gronnowl. With this setup and three ally units standing next to him, he gains a whopping six attack/speed/resistance/defense in combat, making him reach a total of 48 attack/35 speed / 38 defense and 24 resistance before any buffs. With allies carrying Spur/Hone buffs, he can take even an insane amount of punishment without problem. Attack increasing boons are chosen since even with a lot of buff stacking, his attack is still quite sub-par.
Worth nothing that with the new inclusion of the Spur Res/Def 2 skill, he can gain a further nine defense and resistance in combat thanks to 3 allies carrying it standing nearby, reaching 47 defense and 33 resistance, turning him into an absolute wall. This is even before taking in Rally buffs, which could potentially give him four additional points on each of the three stats of your choosing.
In cases where a player desires more firepower, Gronnblade can be chosen and used in conjunction with Vantage. Although someone like Nino or Soren is better with this set up, Boey can use it decently.
Close Counter is a must for this build, as without it he cannot kill melee units fast enough before they close in on his teammates.
Reciprocal Aid can be considered to be an option for emergency heal, as often time with this build you use Boey as a bait instead of as a ranged attacker, so the need for him to use positioning assist decreases. Swap is an interesting one for better space management however, if you decide to run two Owl tome tanks (one is him and the other is a blue mage).
Quick Riposte is his best B slot, as it allows him to double even with his middling speed (even after buffs). Renewal is a good candidate as well, helping him stay in one place a lot longer thanks to the periodical heal.
C slot should be another Spur skill to stack with his teammates, or a Threaten skill to weaken his opponents.

- Sporting an extremely high 43 HP and 32 defense, Boey is one of the physically tankiest mages in the game.
- This allows him to be an extremely potent user of Raven tome, and can take on many melee units, unlike most of his mage counterparts.
- 27 speed with 29 attack on neutral are mediocre for offensive purposes.
- He needs to rely on A slot skills a lot to improve his damage potential.
- Boey has pretty bad resistance and is not a strong duelist against mages, even against some blue mages.
Basically red magical units are his biggest counters thanks to his terrible resistance. Aside from that most of his fellow green mages are capable of outdueling him since he has terrible resistance and speed. Notable ones include:
- Tharja / Lilina / Sanaki / Sophia / Leo / Celica: Just stay away from them.
- Ike / Xander / Ryoma: He doesn't deal enough damage to kill them, and he dies from their counter attack most of the time.
- Julia / Nino / Soren / Spring Camilla / Cecilia: They have enough firepower to kill him and/or often carry Green Tomebreaker.
- Tiki Young: She's tanky and she deals magic damage.
