Azama has the lowest Attack stat in the game, making him one of a rare few units who prefer it as a bane. Instead, Azama prefers Defense or HP to further establish his niche as a bulky healer. Speed can go either way on him, but Resistance is too low to be useful in any way. It should be noted that Azama is one of a handful of units who gain very little from their boon/banes.
Boons
-
+DEF: Defense is the best of Azama’s stats. He can sit on the field and take hits for his teammates if necessary.
Neutral
-
HP: HP is only good for boosting physical bulk. It’s recommended to keep it neutral.
-
SPD: Speed can be important for Azama defensively, helping him escape double attacks from foes. He also gains four points from a boon, bringing him to a decent 30 Speed. This makes it the second best stat for Azama to have a boon in.
Banes
-
-ATK: With the lowest Attack in the game, Azama can safely dump his Attack in favor of other stats. This is largely in part due to staves which give bonuses to their heal scaling.
- -RES: Azama is too slow to survive engagements with mages, so he can lower Resistance without penalty. However, he gains four points from a boon, and can work as a great debuffer with Ploy skills when he has a boon in Resistance.

Sacred Seal: Savage Blow
Thanks to his titanic Defense, Azama is unlike any other healer in the game and can stand in harm’s way with little to fear. This build capitalizes on Azama’s defenses while maintaining the destructive AOE damage that Pain provides. If you don't want to use Azama to attack, it may be better to run with the build below which focuses more on team support.
In many ways, this is a standard Razzle Dazzle set. Double Savage Blow combined with the Pain staff allow Azama to wreak havoc on enemy teams without a risk, thanks to the Dazzling Staff refine. However, his poor Attack means that Wrathful Staff cannot help him much, and so it’s better to forego it for a better B slot for him. Guard ensures that he can take hits without enemies charging deadly specials. Seal Atk/Def is another option that can turn a positioning error into an opportunity for one of Azama’s team-mates. Chill Spd is a great option for Azama, and with a Speed boon, will make him much harder to double. It's best used in combination with offensive team-mates. Live to Serve takes full advantage of Azama's survivability, and is recommended if taking him to multi-map modes such as the Tempest Trials.
Close Def gives Azama even more Defense, enough to survive even double attacks from many foes. Fortress Def is a great alternative as is the cheaper Defense +3. Recover+ is the best choice for healing as it does not depend entirely on his Attack. Imbue gives Azama a small boost to his healing support, which helps to make up for his low Attack. Miracle's low charge time makes it somewhat unreliable, but it does make Azama a nightmare to KO, particularly when he runs Live to Serve.

Sacred Seal: Def Ploy / Res Ploy / Atk Ploy
Thanks to gaining four Resistance from a boon, Azama can build his Resistance into something worthwhile. A Resistance boon combined with Fortress Res gives Azama 34 Base Resistance, enough to open up Ploy Skills as great options for him and sacrifice some offensive strength for debuff potential. This build is better suited to those who don’t want to attack with Azama at all, and would rather him take on a full support role. Even without investment, his base 32 Defense is enough to survive many physical assaults.
Recover and Dazzling Pain are still great for Azama, allowing him to avoid some of the downsides of his low Attack stat. Thanks to Fortress Res, Azama is bulky on both sides of the damage spectrum. Where this build really differs from his standard set is the choice of Ploy and debuff skills over Savage Blow.
There is no set rule for exactly which type of Ploys Azama should run, and it also depends on the kind of team-mates that Azama is paired up with. Atk Ploy is good in nearly all situations, making Azama harder to kill, making tanks more sturdy, and helping users of Heavy Blade activate the skill more reliably. Res Ploy is better when paired with strong offensive mages who just want enemy Resistance lowered.
Def Ploy and Res Ploy are more situational and depend more on Azama’s allies. By running these in his Seal slot, he can switch between them more easily, making him cheaper to build. Finally, Chill Spd is his best choice of B slot skill. The Speed debuff makes it much easier for Azama to survive assaults by enemies and is a godsend to nearly every ally he can have. It’s best to have the Speed debuffing skill as a Chill, as he may not always have enough Resistance to debuff mages and this ensures the most important debuff will be activated.
Introduction
Azama hails from Fire Emblem Fates. Thanks to his nihilistic personality, he’s a favourite character among fans of the game. Despite how often Azama speaks of death, he is perhaps the least likely healer in the game to die.
He sets himself apart from other units with an odd statline fitting of his personality. Azama has the lowest Attack stat in the game, which he pairs with a whopping 32 Defense. This makes him very sturdy as a frontline unit compared to most other healers.
Being available at 3 to 4 stars makes Azama commonly available and easy to merge. Don’t be fooled by his low Attack stat, he has many ways to circumvent that weakness thanks to the unique properties of his weapon type. Like most healers, Azama is very useful even on a budget and makes a strong addition to many teams.
Strengths
Huge Defense.
The most impressive part of Azama’s statline is his huge 32 Defense. With the right skills, Azama can easily push his Defense past 40 making him very unlikely to die to physical damage. Unlike other healers, Azama can be left in front of enemies with minimal penalties making him a lot less risky to use.
Versatile team role.
Thanks mostly the numerous buffs staff-users have received, Azama now finds himself having offensive and defensive merits. Not only can he support the team with healing, he can Attack to cause huge amounts of area of effect damage. Azama is great at whittling down the HP of enemies for his teammates to finish off.
Weaknesses
Low Attack.
At the time of writing, Azama has the lowest Attack stat in the game. This makes it hard for him to run Wrathful Staff builds and also reduces the base healing he can do. While this is not ideal, he can get around this weakness with skills like Recover+ that let him heal more than his Attack would suggest.
Weak to magic damage.
Despite being very strong against physical damage, Azama is weak to magic damage. He is not fast enough to avoid double attacks from mages who can exploit his average Resistance, and not strong enough to KO them with retaliatory damage. This also extends to dragons, particularly those invested in Speed.
Team Options
Counters
While he is resilient against physical damage, Azama crumbles under magical damage thanks to his low Resistance and Speed. And although he can usually weather physical assaults, he can be overwhelmed by certain offensive builds that pack excessive firepower.
-
Quad Builds: Units like Elincia, Hana, Arden and Halloween Jakob can bust through Azama’s defenses with their monstrous quad builds. They also often run Specials which scale off of their opponent’s Defense to deal increased damage.
-
Mages: At only 26 base Speed, Azama is easily doubled and KO’d by fast mages. Linde, Nino, Katarina, Delthea, Tharja and Soren are commonly seen and can decimate Azama.
- Threshold Attackers: Azama must beware of units bearing skills such as Wings of Mercy, Wrath, Vantage and Desperation. Through his flat damage, he can inadvertently give users of these skills an upper hand by activating them for free. Lyn, Olivia, Nino, Nephenee and Valentine’s Hector are commonly seen with one or more of the aforementioned skills.

Troll Azama
He is my main heal and for once he have the perfect IV.
-Atk / + Def (+RES should be good too more blanced i guess)
STATS :
5***** : HP 43 / ATK 28 / SPD 26 / DEF 35 / RES 25
Linked to my Black Knight : Rank S = + 2 ATK SPD DEF RES
ATK 29 / SPD 27 / DEF 36 / RES 26 = if 2 cell far
ATK 30 / SPD 28 / DEF 37 / RES 27 = if 1 cell
If you link to the player : Rank S = + 5 HP + 2 ATK SPD DEF RES
HP 48 / ATK 30 / SPD 28 / DEF 37 / RES 27
And If you put the 2 Link : Rank SS = + 5 HP + 4 ATK SPD DEF RES
HP 48 / ATK 32 / SPD 30 / DEF 39 / RES 29
That mean an incrédible overall stats.
Push it to an nightmare mod 5***** : lvl 40 + 10 is relatively easy and give +4 All stats
For an HUGE = HP 52 / ATK 36 / SPD 34 / DEF 43 / RES 33
I personnaly dont link him to me since i have do it with my Black Knight, but i started too search the nightmare mod and he is actualy a 5* lvl 40 + 3 for an :45 hp / 29 Atk / 27 Spd / 36 Def / 26 res
Weapon Slot = Pain + Forge upgrade = No Retaliate
I dont use it for making direct hit damage, so dont take retaliate on everything can help to destroy everyting stats, or to put some free damages on the enemy team.
No need to think about it, its completly broken so use it !
Support Slot = Recover +
28 Atk / 2 = 14 + 10 = 24 Heal Points Each turn.
But no regen himself.
Limite Slot = Heavenly Light (2 hit) / Still-Water Balm (+4 RES) for 1 damn hit !
Much ppl use miracle, but i think its a waste, he can easily tank everything so give him 1 hit more for killing him is useless since you sacrifice its "free ultim each turn" we dont use martyr + anymore
And Since its support slot dont penalise anymore in puttin 1 hit more for Limite Slot, an basic limit is up every time at every turn. Who dont whant an +4 atk on everybody each turn ? or an + 4 Def or an +4 Res or +4 Spd ? So why not an heavenly light who heal every alies for free 10 hp
? Sound tempting right ?
A Slot = Close Defense 3 / Distant Defense 3 / Close Counter
Because i dont care about retaliate so i use an +6 def/res on close fight too make him more strong, that mean sword axe lance dragoon cant kill him not in one and not in two shot. Especially with 49 DEF and 39 RES.
Same thing With Distant Def but for bow / knife / magic
Close Counter can be use for rétaliate from mélée damage since he have a great Def stats and put another free -10 pv on everyone...
But i prefere give him more tankiness.
B Slot = Live to serve
Life to serve its like you sacrifice B slot for healing yourself but anyway they are nothing else in this slot.
You can use "Guard" if you don't use "recover +" and have somthing to heal youself.
"Wraithfull Staff" is an high cost for the low Atk stats... But if you are crazy you can put Wraithfull staff on the weapon and put Dazzling staff on B Slot for both upgrade weapon use.
C Slot = (WIP) Flexible
S Slot = Distant Def 3
With this combo close + distant def, that mean he have +6 DEF/RES in all situations and versus all ennemie, everytime (they can't retaliate remember)
But if you prefere you can stack 2 "Close Def" or 2 "Distant Def" that give him a +12 DEF / RES versus the one you choose for even more cancer.
For exemple with my IV, if i Choose "Distant def" i have an :
47 DEF / 37 RES at lvl 40 5***** + 0.
With 48 DEF archer ninja... lol !
With 38 RES... mage ? what mage ? its not a sneeze ?
In close :
35 DEF / 25 RES
With 35 Def you can tank everything an effie with 60 Atk will only make you 25 hp that mean 55 % of your life but its already hard to have so much ATK and here i dont calculate link S or SS or nighmare or buff debuff...
25 RES in close...
Only Dragoon Will be dangerous to you since they hit on your lowest stats.
Can be a good choice too.
This build work only when you are attacked of course...but... they cant rétaliate so who care !
At the end if you Maximise all you go too an :
HP 52 / ATK 36 / SPD 34 / DEF 49 / RES 39
And if you choose to put 2 Distant Def :
HP 52 / ATK 36 / SPD 34 / DEF 55 / RES 45
But dont forget in this case only dragoon can kill him cause for them he have only (45-12 = 33 RES)
That's mean a dragoon need at least 39 Spd or more for twice hit you, and need 59 Atk or more.
For One Round Ko.
And obviously in base stats the more power dragoon are the slowest :D
Note :
Limite dont buff himself stats... (too bad) but provide a +4 Stat on all other.
I say troll Azama but in fact it is more an immortal azama.
Oh wait ! I forgot to talk about bénédiction saison and legendary caracter.... :D

I believe my Azama's Atk is baned, but somehow, my math is adding up that everything is neutral but his def, which is not right. So I'm pretty sure my Azama's Atk is probably more than likely baned, which is what you want for any of his builds.
You don't want to use him as an attacker. Ever. You want him to be a tanky bait unit who draws enemies closer for your allies to finish off. Be wary of mages, as his res is not that high either.
Live to serve is handy when paired up with Martyr because you gain more hp that you heal from your friend.
Your Special for him is flexible on what builds your team has. You can use Earth Balm, Fire Balm, Water Balm, or Wind Balm. I like Earth Balm because it boosts def, which is always nice to have.

With Summoner Support, this is one Azama you do not want to cross. Only a +Atk or +Spd w/Fury Ayra and +spd w/Fury Kagero can take out the tanky monk in a single round.
Not only that, anyone else who even tries to off him will feel the the repercussions, and make any of their allies within range take collateral damage thanks to Savage Blow 3 and Dazzling Pain+. Stack that with Close Counter, and almost no one is safe from the dank tank.
If the monk does find himself losing more HP than he'd like,he could opt to heal one of his allies while Live to Serve 3 and Imbue will heal him as well.

Pair him with some other firesweep users with Savage Blow and watch the enemy burn and die.
