Boon
-
+ATK: This boon takes Alm from 33 to 36 Attack, giving him a nice boost to his damage output.
-
+SPD: A Speed boon takes Alm from 30 to 33, making him better at avoiding double attacks in general, though some of the really fast units such as Ayra and Mia will have no trouble doubling him still.
-
+HP: A serviceable boon and can also work, particularly if you want him to serve as a pseudo-healer.
Neutral
-
DEF: Alm's Defense is best left at neutral since the majority of units who will be capable of counter-attacking him will be physical attackers. Not useful enough to recommend as a boon, but useful enough to not want to be reduced. Can work as a bane if there’s no other option.
Bane
- -RES: Alm’s optimal bane as his Resistance is poor to begin with, and many mages have no trouble with Alm regardless so ditching it for other stats will serve Alm well.

With his new refined Falchion, Alm can sweep his way through the battlefield as a strong offensive sword unit.
The refined Falchion is the star of the show, granting him a brave effect when at full HP as well as Renewal 3 and super effective damage against dragons. You’ll ideally want an Attack boon with a Resistance bane to go along with this for the most damage possible. A Speed boon also works nice, increasing Windsweep’s proc chance. The assist slot is open to personal preference; Reposition works well for a nice safe choice but anything can work. Moonbow and Glimmer both make for great specials as their low cooldown allows Alm to proc them consistently, potentially even every round of combat with Heavy Blade. His default Draconic Aura is also a nice budget option.
Death Blow in the A slot gives Alm a great boost of damage when combined with his Falchion. One could also use Swift Sparrow for a slightly lesser boost to Attack in exchange for more Speed which in turn aids Alm in activating Windsweep. His default Attack +3 works well enough for a budget option. Windsweep in the B slot prevents the follow-up of anyone he attacks and has more Speed than, meaning he can safely attack and damage bulkier units like Effie who he may be unable to KO. Renewal will stack with his Falchion, giving him 20 HP every other turn, allowing him to take a bit more damage and still potentially heal up to reactivate Falchion. Quick Riposte is another good option to allow him to also function well for baiting on enemy phase. Threaten Def in the C slot will debuff the Defense of anyone within 2 spaces, giving Alm even more damage potential. Still, the C slot is very flexible and anything can really work.
Heavy Blade and Phantom Spd both make for ideal seals of choice. Heavy Blade works great with Moonbow and Glimmer as the increased cooldown charge means he can activate either special every battle if he can activate Heavy Blade. Phantom Spd also works well to greatly increase Alm’s chance to activate Windsweep. A simple Attack +3 Seal also serves as a viable option to increase his damage output.

With a good HP pool, Alm can function well in a pseudo-healer set, making for a great support unit while also remaining effective in combat.
The key to this build is his assist skill combined with Falchion and Renewal, as well as his large HP pool. With an HP boon, HP +5 seal, and Refined Falchion, Alm reaches 56 HP, enough to fully heal every unit in the game but Arden. You could opt to not refine Falchion for its Brave effect and go for a different stat boost instead which will result in Falchion giving +5 HP, taking Alm to 58 HP; this, however, detracts from his ability to successfully kill his opponent, making his Brave forge his best option. Refined Falchion and Renewal allow Alm to regain 20 HP every other turn, giving Alm great sustainability and he can then utilize either Reciprocal Aid or Ardent Sacrifice to pass on this constant HP flow to another unit.
Fury works well in the A slot, giving Alm a good boost to all stats and the health loss effect of Fury can be negated with his dual Renewal skills. Switching his Special is optional, but his default Draconic Aura works well with his good attack. You could run Sol or Aether too for even more healing potential. Thanks to this large HP pool with this set, Alm can very effectively run Panic Ploy, allowing Alm to support his team in this way as well. Alm can also utilize Infantry Pulse to assist his infantry team-mates. Outside of Panic Ploy and Infantry Pulse, almost anything makes for a good C slot. You can also run Panic Ploy as a seal if you wish and don’t mind losing some of Alm’s healing potential.
Introduction
Alm comes through as another wielder of the divine blade Falchion, making him the fourth unit in the game to possess this weapon. His balanced stat line makes him appear to be the least desirable of the Falchion users, but this is absolutely not the case anymore thanks to the Weapon Refinery. With the 2.2 update came Falchion refinements and with it, Alm went from being the least desirable Falchion user to arguably the best of the bunch thanks to his new refinement options.
With 45 HP, 33 Attack, 30 Speed, 28 Defense and 22 Resistance, Alm suffers from balanced stat syndrome. He has decent to good stats in all areas, but nothing that stands out. His most notable aspects are his plentiful HP stat of 45 and his fairly good attack stat of 33, allowing him to soak some damage with his HP and deal some good damage with his Attack.
His Falchion is what truly allows Alm to shine though. Alm’s refined Falchion gives him Renewal 3 as opposed to Renewal 2 but most importantly, he gains a Brave effect whenever he’s at 100% HP, meaning he’ll make a second attack immediately after his first. This effectively gives Alm a 16 might Brave weapon with no speed penalty when he’s at full HP. This does come at the cost of 5 HP of non-lethal damage after using the effect, but this is only a small problem given Falchion has Renewal 3 built in as well. Of course, on top of all this, his Falchion still deals effective damage to dragon units.
Alm’s power has skyrocketed thanks to the Weapon Refinery. His amazing Falchion finally gives him his own niche among the Falchion users. He still suffers from his balanced stat line but his weapon makes up for it by a considerable amount. Alm is definitely a combatant worthy of your consideration now. Trust in Falchion and you will find one hell of a sword fighter in Alm.
Strengths
Falchion
Alm’s Refined Falchion is nothing short of amazing. The unrefined Falchion is nothing special, granting Renewal 2 and effectiveness against dragons. Alm’s refined Falchion, however, grants +3 HP, Renewal 3, the same effectiveness against dragons, and the ability to attack twice in quick succession when attacking at 100%, though at the cost of 5 HP when the effect is activated. However, Falchion’s built-in Renewal 3 can easily offset this HP issue and restore Alm to full so he can utilize the effect again.
Good Attack
While not the highest, 33 Attack is fairly good overall. This is the same Attack stat as Ayra. Alm can put this good attack stat to very good use thanks to his refined Falchion granting him a Brave effect.
Good Bulk
Alm has good physical bulk with a plentiful pool of HP of 45 HP and 28 Defense. While this bulk is not on the same level of Chrom's, his higher Speed makes him better at avoiding double attacks. He can also benefit well from the refined Falchion’s built-in Renewal which grants him some good self-sustainability.
Weaknesses
Low Resistance
At a low base value of 22, Alm has quite poor Resistance. He will fall very easily to blue mages such as Reinhardt, Linde, and Delthea while also struggling with resisting red mages such as Celica and Eirika (SM). While he fares better against green mages such as Nino thanks to the Weapon Triangle advantage, green mages can still dent him quite badly. Nino in particular is capable of a ORKO against Alm, though this does require some buffs from one of her teammates.
Balanced Stat Distribution
Alm’s balanced stat line does him a disservice. With good HP, good Attack, average Speed, average Defense and low Resistance, it’s hard to call Alm anything more than average when based on stats alone. Luckily though, his refined Falchion helps to alleviate this issue quite considerably.
Team Options
Counters
Alm’s biggest weakness is blue units of any kind, namely bulky blues and blue mages. Blue dragons are not a massive issue with his Refined Falchion, but they can still be threatening if they attack Alm first. He can also suffer from strong sword units if they can get the attack on him.
-
Tanky Blues: These types of units possess great defensive potential and Weapon Triangle advantage over Alm, making it best to avoid attacking these types of units with Alm or allowing them to attack him; some notable examples are Effie, Ephraim, and Tana.
-
Blue Mages: Blue mages such as Reinhardt, Linde, and Delthea will have no problem at all with Alm thanks to their weapon triangle advantage and his low resistance.
- Fast Sword Units: Fast sword units like Ayra and Mia can tear through Alm thanks to their combination of good Attack and fantastic Speed. This weakness can be mitigated if Alm is equipped with Swordbreaker.

This set is meant to get 1RKOs.
Thanks to the new Falchion, Alm gets an instant double when it initiates, which means that Death Blow becomes a great option for him. With his more than decent Atk of 33 at neutral, Alm can get up to 52 Atk with an Atk boon. Getting Death Blow into play means he can make an instant double with 58 attack, which is massive; more than most of the cast. If he gets some buffs he can reach an even higher attack!
Taking that into account, he can insta-proc some specials with the help of the Heavy Blade Seal.
Glimmer is reccomended. Having a 2 charge cooldown makes it perfect so Alm procs it on his second attack thanks to Heavy Blade Seal.
Renewal can be run so he can get back to full easily (in case he trades). Spd Smoke helps him to not get doubled easily on enemy phase, but other skills can be used, like Atk Smoke, Threaten Atk or any other skill that might fit the team he's in. . The Assist skill is totally flexible, but if using Renewal, Ardent Sacrifice can be quite useful so he can heal when he's not attacking, since Alm will get a massive passive heal of 20 every two turns.
-HP is recommended so he can get back to full easily if he ever gets hit, but any bane is workable.

With Alm;s Double Lion effect, Falchion becomes a Brave Weapon, meaning it can Quad now, which makes +Spd his best boon for this set. -HP is his best bane, mostly because the less HP he has, the easier it is to him to get to full life again. Every other bane is workable for this set though.
While resting at 33 with a +Spd IV, he can get to 37 with Swift Sparrow while adding 4 Atk per hit. A +3 Speed seal is necessary so he can reach 40 Spd. Adding some buffs and maybe Drives and he will be quading left and right.
Thanks to the refined Falchion, Alm can get healed by 20 every two turns with Renewal, which is perfect for him to recover from the recoil damage that Falchion has.
After choping someone, Spd Smoke activates, which will make it easier for Alm to Quad more units (or not get doubled on the Enemy Phase) and helping the team with a useful debuff.
Alm is quite versatile when it comes to specials. Draconic Aura gives Alm quite a considerable damage boost when it triggers. Sol can mitigate some of the damage that Alm takes in battle so it helps Renewal + Falchion to get him to full life so he can trigger Double Lion again.

Bravesweep Alm
With a neutral speed of 33 with fury and 43 phantom speed Alm has no issues getting off his double attack with the refined falchion on most units without fear of retaliation from physical units. This means that unless he fights a dragon or close counter mage he cannot be countered easily. He will no longer be able to quad, however.
A +Spd Alm can be used to further compliment windsweep however this will cost some of the damage that Alm wants to deal to ensure he kills the opponent without taking damage. If he does this successfully falchion can heal him back into range for another double the next turn. Noontime can be swapped for any other damage special if you don't feel like you need the healing.

Alm is yet another Falchion wielder with decent bulk. While he has less attack and speed compared to Lucina, his stats are much more comparable to Marth. Compared to Marth, Alm has +4,+2,-4,-1,-1 in HP, Atk, Spd, Def, Res respectively.
His stats are also somewhat close to Chrom's, with Alm having more Spd and Res in exchange for HP, Atk, and Def.
Alm can still fill a niche as a support unit, able to heal up his allies and still fill his role as a red sword. Despite his shortcomings, he can still take on Hectors, Ninos (he, unfortunately, can't take a double and must instead initiate to secure a kill), Brave Ike, and many other meta green units.
Falchion provides him immense power and utility, allowing him to take down the ever-strong presence of dragons present in the arena. He, however, may only be limited to taking down Fae as he cannot secure a proper kill against Nowi and he may struggle against Tiki.
Fury is chosen as his A slot due to the versatility of the skill. It vastly improves his bulk and patches up his middling offenses, allowing him to deal more damage, survive a few more doubles and double a few more units such as +Spd Hector, tank more physical units, and survive even some mages.
Renewal is chosen for his B slot as it provides great synergy with Falchion and heals up Alm extremely quickly, allowing him to quickly regenerate a significant portion of his lost health.
Infantry Pulse is chosen for his C slot to consolidate his role as a supportive unit. It allows him to charge up specials for his lower HP allies which should be most as with his Sacred Seal, Alm can reach a staggering 50 HP, enough to cover his teammates.
HP +5 is taken as a seal to improve his bulk, proc Infantry Pulse more often, and to be able to heal up tankier units to full health with the use of Reciprocal Aid.
Falchion is taken as it is one of the best options for him thanks to its healing effect alongside its effectiveness against dragons and 16 might.
Reciprocal Aid is taken to be able to heal his teammates. Ardent Sacrifice may be taken as well, but Reciprocal Aid's ability to heal up almost any unit to full health in a single turn is almost invaluable.
Aether is taken for his special to heal himself up, but it can be a variety of different specials. It can be Sol/Noontime to heal on a shorter cooldown, Moonbow/Luna/Draconic Aura for sheer damage, or even Escutcheon/Sacred Cowl to give him more survivability and further his role as a supportive unit. Alm has great flexibility in his special; however, Aether's potent damage and healing earns it the spot in this build.
Overall, Alm is overshadowed by basically every other user of Falchion. However, he can still fill his niche as a supportive unit.
