Which road would you take?

Attack Zephiel and then backpedal after it. This will lead them out of their pit.

That's actually my first trick. They will not leave even if you attack Zeph, and the healing tower will heal them up to add to their bulk.

Depends entirely on your builds and the roles of your units. But...
I'd have Jaffar and Aversa go to the top right to slowly chip away the structures while Veronica chips away at the enemies with Y!Azura removing her from the danger zone. Continue for a few turns and the enemy is weak while half your units are making their way through the top while the other half is still doing chip damage on the bottom. Take either Jaffar or Aversa (Which ever does the most in this battle) and make your way to help out the other two finish everyone off in time. The one who stays will spend their last turn hitting the Aether pot.

So a split team, guess I should take that into consideration. Thanks guys. I'm about to reach the dreaded 4000 lift mark so need to make the map ultra unfair.

You'll find a lot of teams like that. Whether it's B!Lyn and Rein, Lilina and Cecilia, B!Lucina and , lots of combos that are able to work as a single team of four or a split team of two. Makes Offensive (Makes Defensive more effective too) so much easier if you do that.

Probably both at once. Two members to go up, grab the aether on the right, probably grab the other aether while their teammates come in from the left. If you don't have armour march I'll probably start by fighting Effie.

Send Veronica on a solo mission on the right. Use someone to repo her maybe to get her far enough. Send the other 2-3 to try and bait/break them up
