In fact, Yezzo's reply to another question suggests that it's even better than an inverse bonfire.
There are three types of extra damage: reducing enemy def, burst damage (ex: bonfire), and flat damage (ex: wo dao, Light Brand). The first category uses descriptions that read "treats opponent's def/res as reduced by __%". The second category uses descriptions that read "boosts damage by ___." The third category uses descriptions that read "does ___ damage," and if lunar brace is not part of this category, then it's a first.
The difference between the second and third categories is that the second category can be blocked if the opponent has an excess of def, whereas the third cannot because the damage gets added after the opponent's def or res has blocked as much damage as it can, up to 100% of base atk + any burst damage. So wo dao specials will hit for 10 damage even if the original damage is blocked completely, and if lunar brace does belong to this category, an opponent is getting hit for 50% of their def almost no matter what. (There's still stuff like pavise.)

Algebraically they are the same. Reducing the enemies defense by (X)% is the same as adding (X)% of the enemies defense to your attack. No clarification is needed as there is nothing miscommunicated.
Ex:
Unit Atk:20
Opposing Def:15
Dmg = (20 + (0.5×15)) - 15 = 12.5
Dmg = 20 - (0.5×15) = 12.5

In the example you have made you will have the same dmg but i have an example that will give different results.
If your character has 50atk and your enemy has 60def:
- with Luna you will deal 20 dmg
- with Lunar brace you will deal 30dmg.
That's because Lunar brace deals true dmg and it is different from both Luna (which reduces def or res) or Bonfire (which adds dmg)

You did your math wrong.
Luna:
Dmg = 50 - (60×0.5) = 50 - 30 = 20
Dmg = 20
"Reverse Bonfire":
Dmg = (50 + (60×0.5)) - 60 = 80 - 60 = 20
Dmg = 20
If I weren't so lazy I'd prove that it's true in all circumstances, however I'm lazy and haven't been in a class setting for like 4 years.

If you read the description, Lunar brace has the word "deals" which is the same word used by Wrath and Wo Dao effects, and they deal ture dmg which is calculated differently from specials like Bonfire which have the word "boosts dmg" and you calculate the dmg like this
Max(50-60;0) +30=30

Not trying to be a jerk, but I don't understand how you're not getting it. Math doesn't care how or when you do things if they hold equal priority (I.E. all add/sub or all mult/div). Could you show more of your work to get the 30, as is I don't understand where your end result of 30 dmg is even possible.
Orig dmg (no specials):
Dmg = 50 - 60 = -10, you don't heal enemies so really 0
Dmg with special:
Dmg = (50 - 60) + (spcl dmg) = (-10) + (60×0.5) = -10 + 30 = 20
Again my goal isn't to say you're wrong and get internet points, it's just to prove that how the math works it's all identical.

It's that the game calculates the damage in several rounds. The first round includes base atk, triangle advantage, effective against, and burst damage from stuff like bonfire or draconic aura. So all of this can add up to 0.
Anything that reads "deals ___" such as wo dao, Light Brand, and lunar brace is applied afterwards, so if the opponent has 60 def and they just wall your bonfire dead, the 30 damage from lunar brace gets added on the 0.
