Co-op Survival Mode: Allied Crusades

Even though an actual real-time mode like that would be perfect, I am slowly starting to lose hope when it comes to player interaction in FEH. It has been a year and a half and they still haven't done anything significant about the ingame friends list. Sure, we can borrow our friends' heroes and put them into a brigade, but that's as much interaction as if I borrowed my friend's shoes.

Your idea could even work in practice with randomized "matchmaking" or friend invites if both players can coordinate. The gameplay itself could just consist of timed turns, so that you don't get into a situation where your teammate is afk and the game doesn't move forward.

Also the skill rewards, which would in our case be implemented as combat manual rewards would be awesome and it would actually make use of this feature.

That's probably the best description of the extent of the friends list right now, "borrowing my friends' shoes" I even have that feeling a little too when I'm using someone's captain during RD/GC/VG. Yea, I'm not putting too much hope into this, its just more of me thinking out loud while I was playing the game. It really is a waste they didn't make good use of this friends list at this point of the game's life

The co-op matches in Metal Slug Defense are on a timer too, that's exactly how I'd imagine it. If someone was away for a min (I've had to do it a no of times in that game), your team composition crumbles and you both lose the match, no one can abuse it

Manuals... I totally forgot about those things... that would be the best way to distribute these reward skills, probably more realistic than them giving a whole 5* unit, but as much as it would be amazing for them to reward skills of that tier, I know I would be putting too high of an expectation from them... looking at this "prized" Fury 3 4*Hinata they're giving for this current special event

Report

I definitely get the reason behind this idea, especially in these dark times when FEH is kind of in a state of limbo before version 3. A live game-mode like this is definitely doable and I would be all over it, so I am secretly hoping that they get their minds straight and implement something like this.

Yeah a 5* unit reward would be a bit too kind for IS, so a manual seems to me like a fair deal, because if you already have that hero, you can merge and if you don't you can wait for a real copy, or just fodder. It will be a valuable asset anyway. The Hinata event makes me doubt that they even thought of this thing tho...the whole heroic feats event is based presumably on 3/4* heroes, that are the most popular combat manuals. A thing like that absolutely begs for combat manual rewards.

Im wondering if they're thinking of launching a new game similar to FEH but this one will have the multiplayer/co-op we wanted... but we wouldnt be able to carry over our units and progress from this game because the new game would be entirely standalone FE game.. that would suck balls... Im really fearing that because that's what happened with Metal Slug Defense

I really like the idea, but I think to take the concept of the relay defense isn't the best since most of the people don't like the normal mode anyways.
Maybe doing something like the Tower of Valni in Sacred Stones?
You and your friend decide on a brigade to take with you.
Each stage you and your friend select 2 units of your brigade to fight so in total 4 units on the first stage.
On each stage there're like 4-6 enemy units with one "boss" unit that you need to defeat to progress further to the next stage.
On each stage you take the next 2 units of your brigade and so on.
When one of your units dies you can't use it on that stage and on the next stages.
You can communicate with an in-game chat or with specific emotes created for the mode like "Go with #### right/left" "Use #### on ###".
Getting combat manuals at the end of such a run would be really cool.
That would be the coolest thing in FEH and would probably bring new players to the game with such a cool gamemode, but like Guts already mentioned it's highly doubtable if something like this will ever happen.

Report

That mode idea sounds good too. Anything... any kind of co-op would be amazing. Just not Tap Battle co-op please.. Yea, I know this most likely will not happen, it just my wishful thinking. But what a waste... they could've really expanded on this game and make it even greater with a interactive mode like this

Report

Here, just joined a couple matches on Metal Slug, its still active after four years.. look at the awesome chaos and mayhem that could be with 2 players' decks/brigades filling a screen.. to make it simpler, maybe even a co-op tap battle mode with our heroes but more saturated and chaotic as this... I could dig that

The most impressive thing about these arcade games is that they are almost timeless...they still look awesome to this day. I remember playing KoF a lot in the only arcade that we had in my city back then. Feels bad, that arcades are pretty much dead in my country now.

Report

Definitely. I love their game art style and it still holds up even from the mid 90's. Capcom fighters were more popular here in the states in the late 90's-2000's like Marvel vs Capcom 2, Street Fighter Alpha 3, SF III, than SNK were. It was rare to find a KoF machine in the arcades back in the day where I lived, but then again, I lived in a small state. Though I do remember playing Samurai Showdown at some of these arcades. Yea it died out here as well

But recently, in the small city where I last lived, there was a bar arcade revival that opened up in a shut down nightclub building that was free play, just pay a $5 fee ($10 on weekends) to get in, and you had access to tons of intact vintage arcade cabinets (no coins needed) that covered the huge club floor dating back to the 80's. There was a full bar too so you can throw back pints and kick it in co-op games with friends like the old X-MEN arcade game, Spider Man Maximum Carnage, Simpsons, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, all the Mortal Kombats, Killer Instinct, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Street Fighter Alpha 3, SF III, Metal Slug, I even found KOF 98... man that was a blast, like walking into a time warp

Report

That bar arcade thing sounds awesome...getting some drinks and then just play a street fighter tournament or whatever. Pretty much exactly what I would like here in my town as well...sadly, the target group of people is arguably so small, that I doubt that it would ever be profitable here. It would probably need to include slot machines and other gambling stuff to draw people in, but that would lower the overall quality of the bar.

I once dreamed about opening an arcade when I was younger or even a gaming themed strip club (that's probably the dumbest idea I ever had), but in the end I had to be more reasonable.

Report

This definitely was a niche bar, but the focus being the retro arcade. The target demographic I'm sure was for college students and 30 smts that grew up from the early gaming era

That's sounds pretty funny, a strip club/arcade, can only imagine the types of customers going in there.. that is just the worst mix possible for wives and gfs. So what was it that you ended up doing that was reasonable, for work/business? You don't have to tell me if you don't want to

Report

Yeah, it was a dumb idea. I was probably too obsessed with anime girls like Tifa back then, so I imagined a strip club where the girls would be doing cosplays as these types of characters.
It's not a secret, but it's not too eventful or impressive. I majored in law at a university here in my country and now I'm focusing on making a name for myself in the IT/IP law business. I'm not a fully certified lawyer yet, because there's a three year time frame before the association that manages all the lawyers gives the permission (it's called the BAR association or sth like that, I think?) and I currently have a couple of months left.

Report

Tifa huh.. man I sure did like her after watching Advent Children.. the realistic anime style was gorgeous.

Thats an interesting field to go into, intellectual copyright, I never wouldve thought of something like that. I don't know much about law, but I have heard of the phrase "passing the BAR exam", so you just work at a different type of bar than I do lol. Did you go into law school knowing you wanted to do this or you figured it out later

Report

Man, Tifa was hot even in FF VII with the blocky 3D graphics. She's my only videogame crush.

I went into law school knowing that it was going to be my main focus. It's the most dynamic part of the legal system and arguably the most difficult to regulate, because the legislation will always be like 10 steps behind all the technological advancements...especially here in Europe.
Sometimes I think that I chose the wrong bar to go to....whenever I go to a bar with my friends, the people tending the bar are always absolutely chill, whereas in my career path, loads of people are just assholes.

Chill Kenshiro

I cannot get over the fact they put this in that game... so fucking funny. I'm on fire sometimes when its packed and I'm crunching out cocktails back to back for a few hours.. but not like THAT

Report

It is one of the most absurd things that I have ever seen...it's the best. Taking someone like Kenshiro and making him mix drinks like a pro....videogames.
Also him saying "you are already drunk" (with the same stoic tone as if he was saying his original famous catchphrase) after serving a drink just absolutely kills me.

Report

Haha ok I get the reference now, I forgot, but he would say "You are already dead" after doing the ATATATATATATATA 1000 punches. That's amazing. This mini game reminds me of a game I have on 360 that was really cool... you ever play Killer Is Dead? Its from Grasshopper Studios, the ppl who did No more Heroes for Wii. They had an interesting animation style it was hack and slash but the combos and swordplay was so fluid and badass, you felt like you were doing the moves from some of the camera angles.

There also was a ridiculous mini game dating sim with the some female clients that hired you here:

After the montage at the first part of this 2nd trailer, it shows the hyperdrive gameplay of the sword fighting... fuck man, watching this again makes me want to get my 360 fixed and boot up this game... I love the flash/slow-mo transtion and fluidity of the sword play and angles.. so badass

Report

And the Ken game gets even weirder after that. I saw a video, where guys that Kenshiro defeats leave their screams of agony after dying as actual physically existing words, that Kenshiro can pick up and beat people with them. I wish I could try whatever these guys were smoking when they came up with this, because it must be something incredible.

Killer is dead is so fucking goofy and awesome at the same time. I love the dating mini games...perving on girls and then getting a weapon or some other upgrade from it (if I remember correctly). Also, the main guy has one of the coolest designs ever - an average-looking guy in a suit, with a crazy robotic arm and a badass sword...can it get any better? Also his quote "killer is dead" right before the boss is about to get bodied? Suda51 just knows how to make cool stuff...but damn, was the story a confusing one...there was some guy on the moon, a talking unicorn of some sorts and a weird hitman-type agency or something? I only played and saw a few missions at my friend's place, but I played Killer7 and No more heroes to completion.

These character action games (or whatever the official genre is called, some people even call it stylish action games) are so awesome with their hype-ass combat moves and ridiculous combos. It's funny that this whole genre came to life from a failed idea for a resident evil game, which turned into its own game (Devil May Cry).

I don't think ive read far into the manga to know if they did anything surreal like that in the story and definitely don't remember that in the old movie.. that sounds like a interesting direction to take it since they added this bartending mini game

Mondo Zappa. He was one of the coolest videogame protagonists ive ever seen. The hitman outfit, slick hair, glasses, katana, and cyborg morphing arm canon. I loved the Mega man style charges or trigger fanning you could do with the shots and the upgrades to the canon mode types. I've heard of Japanese dating sim games but I never tried them (one of my co-workers collects this stuff), so that was my first taste of the over the top "dating" so ridiculous but I enjoyed it. There def was a problem with the confusing story but it didn't matter once you got into the awesome seamless fight mechanics

Suda51 also did another game afterwards that I never got to try out, Lollipop Chainsaw.. I don't know why I never got around to picking it up. There was another game I played around the same time that was amazing, Asura's Wrath... oh man the fights were on a whole other scale. It was like playing an interactive anime god battle

Yea i remember reading that awhile ago about how DMC came into concept. Another great series, DMC. My fav was the 3rd one where Dante gets that insane ass metal electric guitar/scythe weapon, Nevan, after killing that vampiress queen boss... I shit myself from how awesome it was to use that weapon, in the entirety of my gaming experience

Report

Only saw a short clip of Lollipop chainsaw, it was on the super best friends channel (don't know if you'll recognize them), which is a group of guys with a passion for crazy action games and arcade fighters...it almost feels like an extension to my real life friends, who are crazy for that same type of stuff.
But anyway, a high school cheerleader with her bf's severed head as a companion, slaying zombies? That's something you'll only see from a japanese developer.

As for Asura's wrath, I only saw a short segment at my friend's place and Asura was just wrestling with some fat dude, which looked normal for a second and then it took a turn that I would have never expected. The screenshot that you shared and the description pretty much sum it up - an anime god battle.

The third DMC is definitely the one where they perfected the formula. I also heard that a fifth installment is going to come out sometime next year and Dante is there as an old grizzled dude who can split his motorcycle into two parts that then serve as chainsaws.

Report

Tell me you're joking.. that sounds awesome, can't imagine the direction they'll take that into, maybe like the Logan movie / Old Man Logan comics

Oh yea, on that comment bout your english, I hope you didn't take any offense about the fancy bs (guessing you didn't), i was not implying anything about your job, just the detailed terminology for the legal work. But i guess thats part of your job too.. sorry bout that

If you get a chance, get a copy of Asura's Wrath, the imagery in the game is mind blowing and you're basically watching an anime movie more than the game, its mostly an anime with quick-time events, or QTE. This was one of my fav images from the game

Report

A logan-type direction would be awesome and it would even work with Dante, but it's going to be a regular action game from the looks of the trailer.

No offense taken about the lawyer thing. I share the sentiment, that legal stuff tends to be overly complicated, sometimes for no reason whatsoever. I take it as a part of the job, even though I'm not a big fan of that. It's the same in czech language as well when it comes to legal terminology, but here it's sometimes so convoluted that even lawyers can't make sense of it.

Damn, I can't even decypher what's hapenning in the Asura screenshot, but it looks like something epic. I might borrow it alongside my friend's xbox for the weekend and let my girlfriend play just so I can kick back and watch the mayhem unfold. I'm guessing that it's not going to take too long to finish it, right?

Report

Nah, its not too long like an rpg or anything. Forgot to mention, Ryu and Akuma show up as bonus boss fights, part of the fights are in capcom's 2d3d Street Fighter IV style

If they made Dragalia Lost, I think Co-op is more likely than people are thinking it will be. If that game is any hint to what 3.0 will do. Or maybe they'll do nothing. Idk

Report

Have you tried Dragalia? I watched videos but cannot get into the art style. I think IS has nothing to do with the development of that game, the producers were called Cygnus or smt. They're just both published by Nintendo. I did read that it generated $16 million for Nintendo in its first 2 weeks... Jesus
